The bitter truth is that free university education as we currently have it is not sustainable. Going to the university shouldn't really be a matter of natural progression as it is now. 3 Likes |

ASUU no serious, fund university, fund university, as if na that be our problem for education sector, if they are reasonable educationist as claimed, they should profer solution to the sector as a whole and not just uni. We need to start with the basics (pry), address what we want from poly(vocational training or research), everything no be money money. 2 Likes |

janvier27:You are very wrong, stop following or reading about just USA. Check the whole of Europe and see how very possible it is to have free education and make it work. Our government internationally kill these sectors so they make us think it's not possible only to sell them to themselves. The only solution to these whole issue is to create a total ban on private owned schools and see if these public schools wouldn't be fixed 2 Likes 1 Share |

Gr8amechi:free education is only possible in Europe because they have a tax system that works , check most of those countries that offer free education in Europe , thier cost of living is usually very high , Nigeria can barely maintain a subsidized educational system and you want it to be free . And banning private schools won't improve anything , the wealthy ones will just choose foreign schools 4 Likes |

frankmoney:You didn't get my point. In Nigeria, the government internationally allow these infrastructure to die so they can create a means for them selves and their proxy to make a living. Primary and secondary school started deteriorating when government started handling over licence to private investors. Back in 70's and early 80's all rich kids attended public schools or missionary schools but what happened afterwards? For the Europe you said don't you think we are just being penny wise and pound foolish? We don't want to pay tax, we don't want to fund the government but we end up paying more for basic things. Apart from education look at health care system in Europe, look at basic amenities like roads and rail line, in those countries they have toll for majority of roads this help them get proper findings for it. Look at their healthcare system majority enjoy almost 80% universal health coverage but back here we keep trying to copy the USA but we don't have the basic foundations to do that. It's not impossible to fix our educational system but until we hold these guys responsible and start seeing who our enemies really are there would be no head way. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Gr8amechi: For Europe to keep enjoying free education they keep a manageable population growth rate but here in Nigeria no one wants to talk about how a country with an estimated population of 45million+ in 1960 is now about 180million+ (with over 50% less than 30years - signifying active reproductive period) and will likely grow to 400million in 2050. We can't have it both ways if we want to have what Europe is enjoying now we must pay the sacrifice |

ClintonNzedimma:We prefer to carry so much money with us and not interested in the value. How about you pay 40% of that amount and you have free healthcare, free education, sure of security which will you prefer? Taking 30k home without tax and paying for your healthcare, hope you know that if you have common appendicitis and need to have an appendectomy done for you that 30k will not be enough?? Also for your information 30k as salary wouldn't pay 40% as tax that's what nice about Europe your tax is proportional to what your annual salary is. 1 Like |

ClintonNzedimma:The reason we all appear uninterested in government is because we have no commitment, if you know your hard earned money is part of what a government is lavishing no one would ask you to protest against harsh policies or evidence of embezzlement but since we have no real stake all we do is protect them is they are our tribe ANS criticize them if they are not. That's our greatest undoing. 3 Likes |

How much do lecturers earn in Naija? Edit: I don't believe the strike is for the purpose of improving the conditions at the institutions, but rather for the upward review of their remuneration as usual. |

All the facts listed here are not the reason for ASUU strike. ASUU never went on strike to improve the quality and accountability of education in tertiary institutions. They strike to improve their own remuneration! ASUU was founded to represent the welfare of its members so let's stop lying on their behalf. 1 Like 1 Share |
