The Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution and respected lawyer, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, has written to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police requesting the probe of one Bishop Eze Orieke for allegedly spreading rumours of the death of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the acknowledgment copies of the separate letters, dated November 14, 2018, and addressed to the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Yusuf Bichi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, Obono-Obla, specifically informed the heads of the security agencies in his petitions that Orieke made the false claim with purported documents from the London Bridge Hospital (Regional Medical Laboratory) to back it on the wall of a Facebook group called Ohafia Political Forum.

Copies of the documents, which were allegedly attached to the Facebook post and which Obono-Obla forwarded with his petitions to the security agencies, included a purported death certificate issued by the National Population Commission indicating that Buhari died of cardiac arrest in Abuja on September 19, 2017.

Mr. Obla, who has been very instrumental to the President's fight against corruption, described the act as “ill-motivated, distasteful and made in extreme bad faith,”

The letters read in part, “The said documents are attached herewith for your attention and consideration.

“It is a notorious fact and incontrovertible proof that his excellency, Muhammadu Buhari is not dead but very much alive and kicking.”

He added that the post on Facebook and the documents attached to it by the said Orieke “are fake and calculated to cause panic, disaffection and undermine national security.”

“The act violated the provisions of section 24(1)(a),(b) and (2)(a),(b),(c)(i),(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition & Prevention etc) Act, 2015.”

Offences under the said provision carry between three to 10 years imprisonment with or without fines ranging between N7m and N15m.

“In the light of the above, I respectfully urge you to investigate this matter,” the anti-corruption czar stated.

If he actually circulate fake death certificate, he has violated freedom of speech and expression. He can be prosecuted

I am sure that Bishop is not going to be around for the election. Incarceration is inevitable for him. Thank God he had no intention of casting any vote. No one can blame PMB for this; Jubril el Sudan gets all the blame.

The funny thing is that if Mr Obono-Obla heard that Fulalni killer Herdsmen massacred people anywhere in Nigeria, he wouldn't be writting to the DSS or anyone to come and investigate

But if Obono-Obla heard that someone is posting a fake death certificate of his boss, that when he will remember the DSS office address. That's when he will remember that the job of the Police is to investigate crime.

I will never know how those in government can be so unserious about serious issues and so serious about unimportant things

If actual he did that he shud b dismissed as a bishop with immediate effect. This is one of those self acclaimed men of God that were siphoning Aso rock during Jonathan's regime n are now angry bcoz d pipe has been closed.

Enough said, bishop should prove it or get prosecuted.However when is the government also gonna prosecute Obono-Obla for forging a fake WAEC certificate as this issue have lingered for long

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) yesterday described as “altered and invalid” the results and certificate it allegedly issued to the Chairman, Special Presidential Investigative Panel for the Recovery of Property, Mr Okoi Obono-Obla.

Testifying before the House of Representatives ad hoc Panel investigating Mr Obono-Obla’s alleged forgery, WAEC Registrar, represented by the Deputy Registrar, Mr Femi Ola, said available evidence indicated that the results were “altered” and thus “invalid.”
