bidex111:-They surely don't appear from thin air, where is your mortar, why is your fire response not coordinated -Blind spots in all direction including natural afforded cover spots that can aid boko haram supposed to be IEDed or mined -When did we become the Europeans/US that expect Air power all the time, even if we do, we begin to lose air assets due to attrition/over use -Then don't take casualties, this why base defense drills are done. One might say "but it's not a base", its not a holiday resort either. And no, to correct you, all is not lost even if most of your men have gunshot wounds -they had tanks( except if it had no ammo) they could have easily used it to frustrate Boko coming from all sides. Look at the video, it was a plain field Godforbid I make excuses for them, this is utter incompetence - |

oyinpr:How many FOB's are scattered everywhere, some FOBs are about 200km from the closest "big base" Imagine the cost in fuel and spares "Supporting" everyone everywhere. Its a goddamn infantry war |

Geronimoe:We are crying but we aren't blind -Depot is first " welcome to the Army", check out US boot camp and tell me the difference. - After Depot, men/women are shared into their trade. Infantry go on to School of Infantry(NASI), Armor to School of Armor etc etc Don't you ever bring such lies here again |

Sizzorkay:They look depressed because after the recent news of tens of solders being killed day after day, they realized that they messed up in joining that death trap called the Nigerian Army. They are on their way to being more cannon fodder for the superior BH forces. What a waste. |

Odunayaw:Laughing at what you just spit...... ![]() "When did we become US /European boys. Perhaps they know the timely and effectiveness of air cover. You sit in the comfort of your room type what you don't know of. Even the developed and advanced European/western army do not joke with air cover, the Air cover gives you a 3D cover. For the artellery you mentioned it is not as effective as air cover in terms of reach & range, there are other limiting factors with artellery support in COIN war unlike the conventional war we all know. BHT style of attack is to bleed you dry of ammunition and take casualties till you abandon your post/base. You can't do without air cover in COIN operations. From a very reliable source; a survival. Most of the APC and MBT are not reliable as I have said earlier on, a lot of things are wrong in persecuting these war. @odunayaw talking about incompetence tune; you might want to reevaluate your statements. The NA soldiers are trying to some extent; g8ve them the right tools and I bet you we will start seeing the defference . |

Sizzorkay:Let me answer you based on experience. You've been in Academy since late August, straight from being a civilian waking up as you like to a "clown" under intense screaming, you jog, you are 'punished' etc etc, After 2months, you expect them to look like Drake about to receive a Grammy? ![]() Furthermore, they are going straight from that matric to Camp Initial (their first camp in NDA), lemme tell you not one fellow that thinks of "hunger, zero rest, cold and training" would be able to afford a smile NDA |

Centrifude:Dude am disappointed that you are saying these. All of these you mentioned are defferent types of war you just put together. The Saudi- Yemen war; the Yemen separatist has always used the jungle type of war to attack the Saudis, just what the Vietnam North gong did to the United States military. Does that mean they are better than the United States military. Chadian vs lybian conflict was not a full scale war ![]() In all of the conflicts Gaddafi had to support few number of factions participating in the civil war, while Libya's opponents found the support of the French government, which intervened militarily to save the Chadian government in 1978, 1983 and 1986. If it was a full scale: the Chadians can not survive the Lybians by any means. |

bidex111:Look, remove that batshit "you sit from the comfort of your room...". Are you joking now! How many Nations can afford showing up In the air every time? Did you happily omit where I said NAF is on a campaign named Op green sweep. No matter the helicopters, jets in the end COIN is an infantryman's business. Now unto Artillery, forgot where I said Contingency plans? If at all push comes to shove and they surrender the base, Artillery would have a hard time ruining the base? The South Africans and Rhodesians say different in their Bush Wars about Air Power! Air power is an offensive tool FIRST in COIN Yes, The Vickers is a shitty tank, but answer me, can it shoot? If Yes couldn't it have been emplaced to provide static gunfire support? They had TWO!! I believe the boys don't have all they need, but God forbid anyone justifies leaving the ones they have to those that are in need! |

Henry240:The video shows a large number of insurgents. And the insurgent covering the whole show can't cover the whole attack at once. That means you can't just post four pictures and say these are the numbers of insurgents that attacked the post. |

I think most of the folks on these forum have forgetten how the iraqi army were overran by isis with there tons of equipment supplied by the US. Time and time again we have seen bh employing same tactics and getting away with it. WHY?? Cause our boys are not taking proactive measures. Most often than not they most seem relaxed in there AOR waiting for an attack to happen, and repel. No patrols, no recon..just sit and wait to be attacked. Until our attack doctrines are changed, expect more of this attacks |

#ISWAP in Sahel and West Africa will be no match for its al-Qaeda rival soon? As new alliance among jihadi groups are been forged under al-Qaeda. I predict a pre-emptive attack by AQ groups on #ISIS in Sahel and West Africa with defections of fighters might be the aim. The earlier our military buckle up and the federal government spend on Defense or else we will see more of these ![]() |

I think some of you guys missed Henry's point, which i kinda see. Those BHT guys didn't appear out of thin air, and they surely didn't show up with futuristic weapons, it's those same Aks and RPGs with their gun trucks, and yet over 370 soldiers got whopped, that's the point. What ever happened to being aware? 24/7 look outs on rotation etc. You don't get caught unaware, only a basterd soldier will ever say such thing. Caught unaware? You were in a war zone, and that soldier made such excuse? No one said war was easy, but you chose to be there, it's a choice, and those not willing to do it shouldn't. Running away coz you hear bullets coming from all sides isn't exactly what soldiers were taught, was it? Perhaps some of these guys should take that whole zone as enemy territory and not relax as if it wasn't a war zone, you don't get caught unaware while in battle, that was an annoying excuse |

Odunayaw:Now how can you compare "The South Africans and Rhodesians bush war".. dude it's a defferent ball game. The role of air support in COIN can't be overemphasised. If you have read my previous post, those vickers MBT and tracked APC are not operational. They are just mere sitting ducks. By now we should have retired all those vickers MBT, they are bleeped too slow and heavy to maneuver. If you have seen the T72 in operation you would never want to ride in those obsolete stuff called vickers MBT. Talking of how many nation's can afford showing up in the air; that I can beat my chest that YES we can afford it but corruption wouldn't let us. Finally @odunayaw I have had my own share of experience way back 2010 to mid 2014 during the Heat on the war at Kekeno, a border vilkage to Niger. So am not sitting in one corner of the room spitting shit. Back then there was no MRAPS only light skinned APC to Leed your convoy, most of these APC, MT-LB, vickers MBT are sitting ducks. You guys keep blaming soldiers on the ground, they are dying in numbers by the day. His there sacrifice not enough. The hierarchy of the Military needs to be shaked. |

Sizzorkay:So you think the soldiers on duty/guard at that point of time where not doing there job ![]() Or they told you, they where not properly rotated, most of you guys here watch a lot war movies and play combat videos games, these war sometimes is not a textbook thing. People like you can't kill a rat, yet you have the balls to call someone "BASTERD SOLDIER". Please make your points in a civilised manner, tnx. |

Odunayaw:Wondering who ever said for the rank and file, Depot isn't the first place. You just rushed to type " Don't you ever bring such lies here again", na you no dey lie na. For you saying that I'm lying doesn't change anything, just know that. Go read again please. |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 5:20pm On Nov 23, 2018 |
bidex111:The Bushwars was mostly a guerilla war YES or NO Air Support in COIN is first offensive, if you have a differing opinion bring it. You never said the MBTs were "not operational". I thought you were talking of obsolescence which I countered No Sir,we cannot afford it corruption or not. It is not only about putting aircrafts in air, there are a mix of other factors. You were in the NE just the same was thousands were. Did you fight? Were you a soldier? Of what use is MRAP in base defense? Are the Hierarchy not soldiers? Who do we blame for bad situational awareness? and retreating in disarray? This is why we don't move forward we quickly say " oh its the President, no its the COAS". They are all in the same trousers and need slim fitting |

Geronimoe: Training at the Nigerian Depot is nothing to talk about. They teach you how to roll in the mud, "plant your head", march and salute and maybe take you into the Bush once to shoot AK47. After graduation you are sent to your unit, that's all, until when called upon again to shoot at unarmed citizens or to quell an ethno/religious crisis.Depot is for Generals? Are you trying to be funny. Next time, don't bring beer parlor fables here |

You must know me very well to know that i can't kill a rat. Can you read? Because if you can, then from what was posted earlier, a soldier admitted being caught unaware. So you saw nothing wrong with that? What happened to constant patrol of your immediate area, few soldiers on watch at all times for any slight movement etc. Sure I'm no expert, and never said war was easy, I'm saying if i were a soldier, my number 1 goal would be to live to see another day, that means taking caution and making sure the environment i wanna relax in, is safe enough and have defensive perimeter set. But what do i know. And what movies are you talking about dude? This is common sense, and i wasn't talking about rotation in terms of deployment Rotation means having troops on guard at all times, regardless where you are, even if it's done in 4hr shifts, while the rest of the soldiers rest up, clean their equipment etc. Like someone said here, some of the soldiers weren't even properly dressed when they were gunned down, which means, as that soldier said, they were caught with their pants down. But hey, let's blame lack of weapons for it. If that narrative help you sleep better at night, good for you. You gotta understand that my reaction was done in anger and pain, that we lost so many soldiers, how many more will die before we get our sh!t together Even if you have useless commanders, take the initiative and protect where you are camping out, no matter for how long, it's your life, ain't it? bidex111: |

Someone remind me when the military will go on offensive mode like the last govt did just before election. Tired of this defensive, mop up, clearing nonsense routine that our Army has been reduced to. |
