Dont know how gard system is done but in a war zone its impossible to be caught unaware for this kind of hudge attacks.

in the miradors there is always soldiers 24/7 and down near the miradors also a rotation of soldiers to defend and watch the soldiers on the miradors . even if a sniper silently killed 2 , 3 guys on miradors to infiltrat a team and attack from inside defenses (used by terrorists in algeria in 90's) . the soldiers near watching the mirador give the alerte .

And when alerte is given, urgence plan thats was done during training start . the gard team armed and always on standby take position to stop first waves giving time to all soldiers to equip and take defensive positions .

So dont think they could be caught unaware if standard gard system was applied

While ON THE OFFENSIVE!

Or don't you know, BH probe, flee when the Air calvary arrives and returns to fight as soon as they are gone?

that's why the army needs an air arm that is dedicated to providing close air support.

Some people sha.
So after what, 9yrs or so fighting these guys, we are here using BHTs style of attack as a reason why soldiers run or die?
If you know how they attack, why not learn and adapt? Or is that a foreign concept? after how many years? lord have mercy.
By now our military leaders should have learned enough to be teaching foreign militaries insurgency tactics that they have learned through blood and tears, but we seem to haven't learned a darn thing after so many years.
Good luck to everyone, shiny new weapons don't win wars, well trained and dedicated soldiers do.
The moment a unit get disorganized while under fire, that battle is lost, would you stand and keep fighting while your peers are off running away? Nope, that's how people get killed, because that unit just collapsed .
I guess we should all wait until those new weapons arrive.
And to those who don't get it, it's the right of the citizenry to blame and complain when there are setbacks, you can't get mad and force people not to vent, it's unnatural and it won't work.
We vent because lives were lost, weirdly, we are still on same side on this, just pissed that's all

If this close air support is tied down to "helping them win in their own base!", how many aircrafts will be left for other duties like supply, recon and for those that should actually be fighting forward

That's what i just said, have people on watch and on patrols etc, but some people thought i watched too much movies, unreal, this is basic common sense
Not the first time news sources has quoted soldiers saying they were caught unaware, that's lack of discipline, you can't be caught unaware in a war zone, no one said it's easy, i keep stressing that point.
hundreds of terrorists just don't appear from thin air.
How does this not piss people off

It's a massive lack of discipline. That soldier who said that ought to be in the guardroom cooling off.

If they were inadequately equipped, how come Boko Haram made away with 'large cache of arms, ammunition, and military equipment?'

Instead of them to stand and fight, they cowered and were massacred.

When those new weapons arrive, our soldiers would simply gift them to Boko-Haram again.

They'll now tell us they heard heavy sounds of gunfire, they were out-gunned by guys using AK-47s, so they escaped and left all the brand new equipment to BHT.

The video shows a large number of insurgents. And the insurgent covering the whole show can't cover the whole attack at once. That means you can't just post four pictures and say these are the numbers of insurgents that attacked the post.
The main problem i have with you is your lack of comprehension.

A video or picture gives you a mental picture of what went down in the battle zone. You don't get a full picture but a rough idea of the attack, weapons used and composition.

That's how estimates are done.

Am not supporting any sides dude, am stating a fact. The realty on ground, conditions our troops fight in, morals are low, most equipment are obsolete.

What part you don't get, must we force everything into your coconut head.

Most of the equipment APC/MBT on that post where almost not operational, most of these soldiers stood Thierry ground until late casualties where growing and no air support. Sometimes you retriet to fight for another day . Most they all die before they prove there worth, most of you here do not av the balls to blame the right authority.

Your problem as always been comprehension and too much textbook know-how, which doesn't work out sometimes on the battle field.

You have 7 Gun trucks all armed with high velocity machine gun with a range of 2km. You have 4 Tanks with shells that can destroy any living thing within the radius of a football pitch and yet you lost your base in 45 minutes.

Let's face it, these ajeboter sojas tiya race as they saw BH approaching

The video's effect is already manifest in the last few pages. SERIOUS soul searching has to be done. Nigerian Army needs to change their MO when face with such attacks.
It is very easy to aportion blame when we see the propaganda video of BHT. No one likes to see a trained soldier die in somewhat cowardly manner. If Nigerian Army does not respond robustly within 48 hours, then they are inviting another worse attack. Obviously our bases are porous and will be easily overrun by any rag tag army. BHT surely now know that most camp defences will not hold after few waves of attack.

I am really too heartbroken to start analysing the issue. Even more heartbroken that the government and Army HQ are not saying anything. They must bloody take us for fools. Last night, when I saw the video, I couldnt sleep. I was awake till like 4am just having flashbacks of that soldier pleading for his life, and the other well kitted soldiers shot point blank.

Baba the only safe place is Maiduguri and Monguno. Even Monguno self the Gajiram area has been attacked continuously this month.

The worst areas are Borno North (Abadam,Gubio,Guzamala, Marte,Morbar,Nganzai) Any Soldier serving in those areas hmmmm
