Hello all

I just found this page now. Please i need advise because I am worried about purchasing a car. I intend to get a BMW x3 2007 vehicle but I hear alot of negative things about BMW and maintenance so I am scared.

This particular vehicle was bought new and used in US for 6 months, the owner sold it to his brother here in Nigeria who used it for a out a year and wants to sell to me. He loves the car but had to put it for sale cos the engine and gear need to be changed a d he has another vehicle.

My concerns are:

1. How easy is it to maintain such vehicle? I'm in Lagos please.

2. How much do the engine (3.0sl) and gear cost? Where can I get genuine and affordable parts?

3. Is it worth the hassle? He is selling for slightly under 1m but I have to get the engine and gear myself. The car is still clean and I attached some pictures below.

Anyone that can help with this, I'll really appreciate it. Thanks.

How good are your roads? That's another thing to consider. Sold my BMW cos of Lagos roads, never had issues using it in Abuja. You also need to get a very sound and reliable technician before thinking of buying. Lots of mechanics in Lagos but few are sound. For parts, easily available in Ladipo. Just so you know, BMW doesn't have a good second hand value. I just don't see myself buying a car that would need engine and gear replacement as first headache. Think it through, these cars can't be managed the way toyotas are. Once you notice an issue, fix it asap.

@ Tochie88,

As it will be the first time to own a BMW, my advise is, forget about the BMW X3 whose engine and gearbox needs replacement.

Lookout for one whose engine and gearbox are working optimally.

Where is your location? Look out for owners of BMW cars within your location and collect contacts of their automobile mechanics and electricians.

He must be someone with a very poor maintenance culture.

Car engines and their gearboxes do not just go bad suddenly.....

Congrats bro.
I myself took delivery of a 2007 525i this Saturday (27th Oct. 2018) and I’m just getting used to the car.
It has no serious mechanical or electrical issues except for some abs sensors and others that needs to be replaced.
I’m having issues with the car’s Bluetooth pairing with my phone despite several YouTube tutorials etc all to no avail.
I did the oil and filter change yesterday (Mobil 1) and the difference is quite clear. I’ve used a Honda, Mitsubishi , Mazda and a couple of Toyotas and the difference is quite obvious I must confess.
Since we are in the same ‘ship’ I guess we can be exchanging notes and what have you.
Abi wetin you think?

Congratulations to you too brother!

I'm very happy that you drop this note, I have been looking for someone that own same model with me. My car haven't arrived yet, it will take 7 weeks to get here. But I have make some few order from Amazon and eBay to pimped the hell out of the car. Here is my whatsapp contact 09075920398. Or you can as well drop yours and I will add you.

Go for the BMW X5 since the roads you ply regularly are not in good shape.

Hello everyone
As I see some you are fond of BMW, and I have a chance to buy one for my new wife. I don't understand cars, just driving my old Passat, but me and my wife want a beautifull car for her. Found https://www.truck1.eu/other-machinery/cars/bmw-z3-a3203839.html this beauty. What do you think about this car, the price is good. Maybe anyone have an opinion about this model and can give me a piece of advice.
Don't hesitate to ask questions
Good luck everyone

I have not driven this model but all BMW cars are reliable.

Make sure not to buy one that has been abused.

Tell me, what car(s) do you presently own?

If this is going to be your first car, my advise is, forget this and get one with a smaller engine....

I speak from experience. Hence you cannot shut me down from expressing my personal experience about BMW cars. I have used 3 different models so far and I won't change to another car brand, at least not for now....

By the way, spill your bitter experience with BMW cars. We may be able to point out where you got it wrong.

Hi gurus, am planning to get a used 2005 BMW 330xi automatic transmission but the car has a bad power steering rack and airflow meter. Is this ride reliable? How much will it cost to replace the steering rack and air flow meter? Will appreciate your advice, thanks all.

Used 06 530i and 08 3 series and I don't see BMW as unreliable. In fact, all my years of ownership, none broke down and left me stranded. I just wonder why I see broken down Japanese cars on the road with all the reliability news I hear about them and makes me wonder if the owners lack maintenance culture. BMW has never disappointed me for once. Take care of your car and you wouldn't worry about nothing

Hello Guys, I bought a Nigeria used BMW X5 E70 two months ago. It is a 2008 model 4.8i. I have heard about the goods and bads of BMW but I also like experimenting and challenges. The ride is wonderful and drives FAST. I love all your post and enjoy reading them. I will drop the pictures of my ride later. Kindly add me to the whatsapp group. Will drop my number on the email address. I also noticed little or no postings on BMW X5 in this forum.

Good morning guys. I need an ECU for a bmw E90 and info if a bad ECU can be fixed. My 2006 3 series won't rev past 2000 RPM and the ECU has been diagnosed as the culprit. At, Ladipo I will get an ECU for around 120k but I want to try all my options and see if I can get for less elsewhere or better still, fix the old one. Thanks.
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by Nobody: 7:06pm On Nov 26, 2018
BMW all the way for me, I've used 3series, 5series and now x5.
I only go to mechanic once a year and have never had a reason to try another brand.
But right now I have little gear box issue with my x5 based in Portharcourt,
