ICaSNg:You nailed it bro. Exactly my experience in London for good 4 years. How about me that even came to Ireland with family visit visas, though I've visited before to check if I can live here. I survived here for years before getting their stamp 4. Now I won't encourage anyone to come and stay with visit visa. I can't say because I experience difficulty in a country then everybody will experience the same. Irish study visa is hot cake to many. Life is much more better in Ireland now compare to when I just came in those years. If you believe you have no reason to leave Nigeria for whatever reason then stay there. If you think you should leave then leave, and if you come and after you feel that you can't cope then go back home or go elsewhere. If you think you can cope then stay, all you need is FOCUS & DETERMINATION, with God on your side you will conquer. Coming to Ireland is a matter of CHOICE. |

Bjrokenhear003:No, Ireland is not f*cked. Infarct Ireland is getting better. I have two Nairalanders here one came from student exchange, the other with direct study from Lagos. The one with exchange student used to visit here before he was even shocked that things has changed O. You're even lucky you didn't come like around 2008/09 during the recession, that's when you will appreciate current life in Ireland. Don't worry you will find things easy at some point. Create your own success story. Remember the days you prayed for the things you have now? Better days are coming and all your hustle will be worth it. Everything will happen for you all of a sudden and you’ll be thankful you didn’t give up. Encourage anyone that love to come and study and achieve that goal if they can't find alternative. Blessings are coming. Believe that. It is well with you. |

Guys, do you think schools like Dublin Business School offer part time (2years) study for international students? I am considering that option because, based on the discourse i have just read here, a part time study option will afford me a little more time for side hustle while actually studying. |

odimbannamdi:You won't even get a visa for part time ![]() |

dotcomnamename:I actually guessed so, coz there is no option for part time studies for international students in DBS's fees document for non-EU students |

partnerus:Really good one! Glad to see someone who think in a positive way and face life the way it is. Tired of lazy people who think life abroad should be much easier. The truth is that it never easy anywhere. Being successful start with your hardworking. Having visited few countries, I think Ireland is one of the best countries immigrants can thrive and succeed after sometime if they know what they are doing. There are some immigrant kids especially from Nigeria that after graduating from university here were not able to find job. I think part of the reason is because their parents /themselves were still having this Nigerian mentality where they think with education you can achieve everything and would be easier to find job. While that is partly true, in this part of the world your experience count and your ability to prove that you are able to perform and achieve success is very important. Building work experience is very important regardless of what type of job. It will surely help in finding your dream job. Yes, Ireland is expensive in terms of accommodation. Get a part time job as a student to help you with your bills. If you are finding it difficult to find a job due to lack of experience consider volunteering and you can get a referee through this way. There are jobs out there. All you need is apply and prove to the employer that you’re willingly to do the job. Sometimes employer are not really looking at your educational qualification they are looking at your experience and willingness. One good tip is when you read job position and its requirements, try and match that requirement in CV. Don’t get yourself over qualified for the job. For instance, mentioning that you hold undergraduate, postgraduate etc. or that you were a director/manager in Nigeria. It may not count or rather they might not take you too serious. Racism is everywhere in the west and it is not going away soon. So don’t let it discourage from achieving your dreams. Your personality is very important and that is the way people will respect you. Stop complaining and take challenges and look for opportunities. |

My 2 cents on choice of university... Mr "Broken Heart" mentioned if you are looking to work, earn lots of money and school , choose this school don't choose this school. That in my opinion is misleading. September intakes have the shortest semester ever anywhere in the world so workload is always crazy, it gets better by 2nd semester. That was why I wrote about joining Jan, feb or April intakes to make things easier- Unfortunately not all universities have these start dates and not all courses are available during this period. Don't choose a school because of fewer lectures just for you to have longer hours for casual jobs, I advice students to always think of the long term goal, I've also been very clear that if it much better to pay all your tuition before leaving Nigeria, it takes a lot of stress off you. The amount you earn from part time jobs can cater for your accommodation and feeding * that is if you cut your coat according to your material. Think your course through, if confused ask questions- people choose courses because its affordable or just anything to get out of Nigeria that should not be the case abeg- you're investing millions into this degree its advisable to choose what you're passionate about because when your coursework and exam results start surfacing or your coursework group start acting up its your passion for the course that will motivate you. No one says it will be easy but then we are Nigerians nothing puts us down. Success is key! |

guys, I have a question I am 24, and relatively doing well for myself in Nigeria, I own an agribusiness firm. however, I studies computer science, and also work as a web developer, I have zero plans of starting a family in Nigeria. my plan is to go Do an I.T based course in Ireland and settle ( also have my business in Nigeria grow as back up) now my question is. does Ireland discriminate on I.T skilled Africans? cuz I just read a thread on how its hard to get a skilled job in Ireland as a black immigrant. thing is, I know Ireland needs skilled I.T staffs..its why my focus is there.. thanks |
