Yeah, I believe dental students go thru anatomy, physiology, pathology, maybe biochem and pharm shaaa...

They surely won't do O&G, paediatrics and others... They concentrate on dental surgery, dentistry, dental pathology and stuff like that...

Finally, its just 5yrs, not 6yrs like med school
check your assertions well...especially number of years

It had already been clarified. He probably made that guess because his school (unilorin) does not offer Dentistry

Hello, good afternoon.

I'm careful about putting my number in the open. Kindly send a PM, please.

Or, perhaps your question may benefit others. Why dont you just ask it? Your choice.

Six years I thought it was 5yrs faa!!!

Well, we are still doctors shaa, dentist or medic

Your assertion is wrong! Dental students don't only do dental or oral pathology, they do general medicine, general surgery, general pathology and pharmacology together with medical students which carry the same mark and grade. They don't do community medicine, O & G and Paediatrics. That's for 1st degree.

Then in residency, residents in oral & maxillofacial surgery will still rotate through internal medicine, ENT, plastic surgery, at times ophthalmology, and general surgery plus some dental subspecialties..

Oral pathology residents will rotate through internal medicine, general pathology plus some dental subspecialties.

Oral medicine residents will still rotate through general pathology and internal medicine plus some dental subspecialties..

Oral radiology residents will still rotate through internal medicine, general radiology plus some dental subspecialties.

I don't know about periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics and prosthodontics.

Besides, Dentistry is a SIX- YEAR course in Nigeria.

Good morning, please is it true that Last's Anatomy by Chummy Sinnatamby is too complex for undergraduate use? That's what I've been hearing, i already have the book but i just want to confirm from people with experience to know if i should buy Keith Moore with it, thanks.

I heard one can't practice as a general dentist in this but must do residency. Like residency is a must.

No. It's complex but not too complex for undergraduate. This is definitely the best textbook of human anatomy around. I read it and got a distinction in anatomy, right even before viva. It's a great book. If you think you can't use, then go for gray's anatomy, the student version. It's another great book that many do not know about.

Did you combine it with any other text/atlas?
If you did, kindly specify.. Thanks.

I didn't combine, but I also read gray's, and the clinical boxes in Richard snells. Last is very sufficient, it contains many things not found in other text. It's best for, the limbs, thorax and abdomen. Head and neck is also cool but very complex, but neuro. You need a different book.

I didn't use atlas most of the time, because I was trying to improve on my imaginative abilities, and it worked out.

Cool! cheesy cheesy
So summarily, you combined Last's Anatomy with Gray's and settled for Snell's Neuroanatomy.

But here in my school the recommended text is Keith Moore for Gross anatomy,
In fact everyone has it.
What do you think about this? wink

There is nothing wrong with using a book that's different from what everyone in your school uses. The most important thing is to know your stuff.

I don't intend to use all, I'll just pick the suitable one(s) as lectures progresses.
