Increasing Stereotype Of Nigerians As Fraudsters Across International Boundaries by Inteltower(op): 11:14am On Dec 02, 2018
The increasing cyber crime activity called yahoo (internet fraud) is causing a labeling and recurring attitude position towards Nigerians by memebers & organizations of foreign countries.
A stereotype is now on a constant rise everyday and is attached to us Nigerians by the global world whether online or offline. internet fraud (G/Yahoo) is trending, as it is an illegal criminal activity that is generating high revenue returns, applicants and recruits (especially the youths) are on a constant rise, cartels are being formed, they also carry out the crime on foreign countries (Indonesia,Malaysia,Usa, etc) and victims of this crime are increasing by the day, mainly abroad.
Now this has lead to foreigners exposing, lamenting, refraining, discriminating, publishing and generally suspecting their contact/association with Nigerians as being fraudsters.
security investigation & arrests can't solve this problem the country is facing and threatening the very future of every Nigerian which is the stereotype of being labelled a scammer/fraudster.
Many international security agencies, governments and companies are also harbouring this stereotype.
dating, shipping and social networking sites are as well harbouring it and few are secretly monitoring Nigerians activity in them.
Young Mob Intelligence Group is predicting by the year 2025, this stereotype will be permanently generalized to many Nigerians who relate with the outside world and there are three reasons for this
1) the damage being currently done by Yahoo boys in reference to the negative stereotype on the rise isn't being solved by the federal and state governments in Nigeria, even Efcc , etc arrests, convicting them won't solve the damaging impact its doing to the image of the country
2) the failed state structure of country, political instability & corruption only leads to poverty, unemployment, slums, increased desire to make money at all cost by a majority of citizens in the country which can force them into crime especially internet fraud
3) The stereotype is already spreading across international boundaries, and it will be a strong held perception towards anybody from Nigeria.
just like the ever permanent, widespread and reaffirming perception that Muslims as potential terrorist/violent in nature or people with the agenda to islamize any country they are in as by many in the international world so too will Nigeria attain that status as being potential fraudsters in the global community and consider the opportunities that it will everyday hinder to many of her citizens.
The CIA in a statement this year identifies Nigeria as currently leading as the most popular country in Africa with high internet money fraud activities.

How can law abiding citizens in Nigeria stop this ?

Just as we stereotype people from different tribes:

We say Yorubas are two-faced, romance fraudsters, like pepper, use juju, ritualists, wire fraudsters and so on

We say Igbos peddle drugs abroad, romance scammers, import fake products.

We say Edo people are witches and prostitutes

We say Hausa/Fulani make their money via government that's why they "gree die" for power, they are terrorists, pedophiles, hard drugs takers, use juju etc

We say Calabar people like fvck

We are all guilty of this too. We forget that few bad eggs give the majority bad name.

You raised a fundamental issue. Problem is even the backup...that is the "elders" family unit" have failed. Before such a youth would have been disowned & denounced but nowadays, the moral fibre has really degenerated, most even encourage their wards in such enterprises & the nation economic situation isn't helping.

This issue has been around even in old times on a lowkey cos people frowned against it. Unless drastic actions are taken by both the communities & govt. I fear it will become the norm.

How would the children of Mr Gboy/ritualist & Mrs slay queen see life? What legacy would they also hand over? This thing is successive.

Nigeria might end up a pathocracy

The damage this yahoo guys have done eh, it will only takes divine intervention to turn things around, at the mention of Nigeria, scam is the first thing that comes to ones mind
Is so difficult for legit guy/girls to do business outside the shores of Nigeria
I have watched countless of Hollywood movies where they generalize Nigeria as a scam city, they are already generalizing us and is almost too late
