Good evening house. Please i need your opinions. Is 150k too small to set about 2050 blocks for fencing (digging of the back side inclusive because the both sides have been dugged and fenced with few coaches of block already). The Land is a 100ftby100. Intially the builder agreed for 2000 block but refused when he learn't that the moulder molded 2050. The painful part is that, he was supposed to commence tomorrow morning but didn't give me his reply until this evening when i called him. Your opinions please.
its N50/block setting.

@chekitaut thanks for your response. Please do you know of a good builder/engineer that can do the job in benin city Edo state? Also, i learnt that 2050 blocks might give more than 2100 blocks because of the halfs. Would they also be charged at 50 naira or not charged at all? Thanks

If you check very well 150k is not too much (140-150 is a fair price)
If you go by counting N50 *2000=100,000
Nature of the ground determines digging let say 25k
Blinding 6 labourx3000=18k
Builder suppervion ?
Total without builder charges 138k

No, they are process wood but we do not have equipment to do that in Nigeria.
I understand. Do we have that kind of wood here in Nigeria? I am not just talking about finished product but raw ones from the forest.

Let's assume that the wood I am talking about is called Nairaland wood from the forest... do we have it in Nigeria as well?

Good morning forum.
I have been following this thread for some years and I must say it's an eye opening and very educative thread.

I have a small issue at hand and I don't know if anyone can come to my rescue. I'm Planning not to renew my house rent as I have a small uncompleted building, I wish to complete it and move in this December as my rent has expired already...

My challenge is roofing materials, I don't know if any supplier can help supply 10bundles of roofing sheet and I will pay back in instalments starting from January next year.... This we greatly help me to achieve my dream before the year runs out...

I am based in one of the satellite town in Abuja.

Thanks.

You think anybody in their right minds would help you? when you have already told us the kind of person you are and in terms of money.. you are the kind of person that someone gives money and you start to fight them becsuse you think its your right to do so.. Pay your landlord or come to some form of agreement with him on how you want to pay and then packout of his property.you sre the kind of tenant that give landlords heartpain...!

So please stop displaying ur ignorance publicly.

Alright thanks a lot will consider them

PLEASE DONT BUY those Doors.
They look so beautiful on the outside (and most of us like Aethetics) but it is useless on the inside.
I bought them for 22k each in Lagos, at Mushin, just behind Odi-olowo market, after sime bargaining since l was buying many.
We needed to reduce the size of one of them because we did not want to chisel a wall and that is what led to our seeing "the inside" of these doors!
The inside is nothing but ordinary cardboard papers! yes, you heard me right: Cardboard.
The cardboards are about 2" in width and are folded in a wavy pattern and then the two 'beautiful' sides are gummed to it but in terms of strength and safety, it is of zero value.

I replaced all the ones l bought and gave these Chinese ones out at 10K each, just to recoup some cost.

But if you are in doubt, buy one first and open it up...then decide grin grin

You are absolutely very correct sir. Someone imports them close to my factory and they come to couple them together there. A well placed kick would destroy it.

Please o, our American based brothers, I want to ask something.

I do see some American houses using wood for flooring and walling in some section of their house and I know these are durable woods...

My question is, do we have this kind of woods in Nigeria?

Hardwood flooring tiles are used for flooring in the U.S. It is simply layers of plywood that are glued together in some cases.(Not sure if it is in Nigeria, but I know in Primary School we were told plywood is gotten from Sapele).
Laminate flooring tile on the other hand, is simply a image or picture of wood that is glued to a fiberboard or plank. Laminates nowadays look and feel like real wood, but it is just a high quality picture of the real wood.

Hardwood are very durable but cannot be installed in bathrooms or areas of high humidity because they can warp. Laminates can be installed almost anywhere.

NO, each stages cost is separate but all must be together as a quote since the OP is talking about fence here and no separation of the work from the OP. He only mentioned that 2 sides of the land has been done before. So Diging, blinding all is together for that 150k the builder asked for.

Let's assume that the wood I am talking about is called Nairaland wood from the forest... do we have it in Nigeria as well?

I assume you mean species of trees.

There are different species of trees in different parts of the world. Some can grow in almost anywhere while others not so.

In terms of use, especially for building, the specie is not the main ish, it is the type of wood. There are different types of wood to do different kinds of things. Hard wood cannot replace soft wood. Wood grain can also determine suitability for different purpose.

Now, if a particular specie is required in the US for a job, a different specie available in Nigeria may have same qualities such that that Nigerian specie can be used as a suitable option in Nigeria.

However, the real issue here is the quality of wood. Our trees are afflicted with several diseases and other factors that make their quality so low that the American standard of wood may not be available locally.

For example, when sourcing an important structural member such as a 6m beam of wood, diseases, age of wood etc would be strictly considered. While in Nigeria, trees are on their own but there, trees are taken cared of.

A young boy grows up in a forest plantation, taking care of his fathers trees. 5 generations of his family have been in the wood business, they know what diseases affect their output and the secrets of the business is passed down. The 1st person who started it may not have enjoyed it but every generation thereafter contributes to making the family a dynasty. Father leaves 50,000 healthy young trees, son inherits and makes a fortune while leaving a 100,000 healthy trees, grandson does same and the wood supply only improves in quality and quantity.

Meanwhile, i met a young son in Nigeria whom his father left a forest of very expensive trees. This boy wants to go to school and cuts down 20 every semester. He never planted even one but keeps havesting the 30yr old trees his father left. What will the next generation get?

Wood is such a good building material but we have no discipline to do it right.
