If you switch on your phone, does it show unlocked? If no, you can check some online tutorials, it's quite easy to unlock bootloader

Redmi 6pro supports OTA updates.

It's only when an unofficial ROM is flashed that it got bricked with OTA updates. But Redmi 6pro as produced by Xiaomi (not flashed) supports OTA updates. Thanks

We are saying the same thing here bro... I use a Redmi 6 pro myself and I have updated to MIUI 10 with no issues (got the sealed Chinese version)

Only those flashed with the so called "global roms" , some don't support OTA updates .

Redmi 6 pro doesn't have an official global version

I once read a user review on aliexpress on solving that bricking issue while updating the phone: unlock boot loader first

Don't know if that worked or not, but the sellers include the guide on how to go about it; according to the user's review

it's only dt metallaic micro USB port that will be removed from d dock. Then another one solded.
Any working micro USB port of the same size as the one removed will work. Good engineers around you will have it.

Even if an OTA update pops up, DO NOT UPDATE ooo. Ask demsid his phone got bricked after updating as is also had shop rom. Just dey use your phone like that till you taya, there is nought you can do about any bugs.

Next time request for the sealed chinese version or ask questions before placing an order.

Go ahead and buy your phone.

Ensure your bootloader is unlocked after purchasing and you have a recovery installed( I recommend you flash RED WOLF RECOVERY via adb fastboot).

Once you have an open BL and an active recovery your fine.

I currently use the phone, currently running Liquid Remix as my daily driver OS.

1. As a newbie if you are buying from alixpress or our resellers here, be specific you want the one with global rom or global version. Most our sellers here always have either the global rom/global version.

2. The chinese version also works well in nigeria as you can select English as your language but for ease as a newbie, i would suggest Global rom/Version

3. Update away as long as your device has the official rom, one will land in trouble if you update with a shop Rom.

buy the phone and you will realize the design is different. Umidigi is known for making the bezels of their phones thinner on pictures than they actually are.
