Gender based recruitment would always exist in every sector. There is a reason most nannies/customer care agents are women...while drivers are men.

This one only made the mistake of being so bold about it and that is what will put them in trouble. Whoever typed that letter should be sacked though, so unprofessional. Other organizations would have simply said "we will get back to you".

I've been in the telecommunications field for years and you will hardly (or might not even) see a female in field operations... would you call this being unfair too?

The situation is getting bad, do you know that in Abuja companies that provide cleaning services to agencies and parastatals and private firms such as banks are told to engage only young unmarried ladies to retain their contract.
These ladies are usually passed around as fringe benefits from the CEO down to their drivers. This also applies to Youth Corps members.
After some months the cleaning company service owner will be advised to rotate the ladies by transferring them out and bring a new set when they get tired and have gone round.
It's really terrible and rampant.
