Nigeria is not a nation but a con3. Those APC moslems who commended ASUU for 6 months strike in 2014 are now condemning them now. Nigeria needs to be restructured or broken.

ASUU is synonymous with STRIKE from time immemorial. Despite all the aptitude test Monet, tuition and several levies, they still waiting for government funding.
What a shame, all institutions ought to be self funding.
I understand your ignorance because you don't understand how this things work! Nigerian public universities have no autonomy. All funds are remitted through the TSA. Even international research grants are monitored. The government needs to fund education and ensure that all projects are 'double' monitored to ensure funds are not syphoned. Our universities are simply underfunded. Until the government is forced to implement good policies, there will be strikes upon strikes.

Let it be January ending pls.

Academic activities won't commence until after the elections. Even if the strike is called off on Monday, academic activities won't commence as it is just a week to Christmas. January won't be feasible as there will be alot of campaign and political tension, the whole of February and maybe March will be wasted on the election...so it definitely would be a long wait. You should consider taking up a job or learning a skill/trade.

I STRONGLY doubt if these guys actually hold any meetings.

May God deliver us from the hands of wicked Leaders

ASUU have been complaining of low funding of universities whereas universities are meant to be a pinnacle of research.
It's my believe that this ASUU committee clamoring for funding for schools are actually seeking for how to devour the cash which would be pumped in rather than use it for research.

Hence, I'd advice my fellow Nigerian students to keep calm and grab a skill which could be of help to them, programming skills, hand skills, internship experience. They're all important. Let's remain positive!

What you said, is the absolute truth.

The funds will be looted if given to them directly.

I will advice FG to ask them to provide a list of everything they need and then buy/build the things themselves (FG).

Pls can you shut up? Stop exhibiting your illiteracy in public. Even in the US, schools are funded by the govt, student are given student loans. I believe your folks thought they gave you an education. Don't embarass them

If the universities and polytechnics had commercialized their innovations/inventions, by now they would have been generating enough money to fund themselves.

Are you sure all funds are 100% remitted.?

Correct me if I am wrong but I know that they are entitled to some % percentage.

Have you ever supervised a departmental Accreditation before.?

Do you know how much money is looted by HODs during NUC & other forms of Accreditations.?

Tell them to provide a list of the equipments, buildings, materials etc they need and then buy & supply the models they want.

How much do you pay as school fees that will be enough to generate enough IGR for the school and payment of staff salaries? its even worse in federal universities, most of them pay 10-20k as school fees, state universities are the ones paying 100k and above.

Another meeting between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended on Monday night without an immediate resolution of the dispute.

The meeting which held at the Federal Ministry of Labour was to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the university lecturers.

At least four other meetings have been held between both parties before Monday’s since the strike commenced on November 4.

While addressing journalists, the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, said the meeting has been adjourned to December 17.

Mr Ngige said the federal government is taking all necessary steps to address ASUU’s demands.

Mr Ngige had earlier appealed to the striking lecturers to ensure that Monday’s dialogue yields results that will lead to ending the strike.

”The strike is five weeks old today and it is not in anybody’s interest. We will ensure the needful is done,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ASUU chairman, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union will await the next adjournment date to see how far the federal government will deliver on its promises before it will take a decision on whether to suspend the industrial action.

The union embarked on the strike on November 4 over the poor funding of Nigerian universities and non-implementation of previous agreements by the government.

The bolded, to me, is a positive signal. It means the strike may likely be suspended if and only if some things agreed upon during yesterday's meeting could be confirmed during the meeting of 17th of December.

Stanford University in US makes money from the commercialization of their research works in order to fund the university.

The problem with our higher institutions is their inability to find a way to commercialize their research works just as other advanced universities.

Universities ought to be the richest institutions because of their capacity to develop socioeconomic products that can generate funds for them.

Example

Nigerian Military needs drones to fight BH.

How many universities have taken the bold step to develop military drones that can be sold to the military.?

Nigerians need cheaper energy, how many Nigerian universities have developed biogas systems that can be sold to residential homes, offices etc.?

What our universities are good at, is to divert Accreditation funds instead of buying the equipments needed and yet they make no effort to encourage students-staff research works at departmental level.

Appears You know very little about the university processes. During accreditation, most HODs don't joke with it and will make sure the right equipment are purchased but after that they relax and adopt the "manage it" style of a typical Nigerian with intermittent corrupt acts.

Major Procurement in recent times are done from the University procurement unit not manned by any Academic staff or ASUU and that is where the money is been siphoned with inflated purchases.

The money HODs control are the DTLC paid on a quarterly basis for reagents et al.,
