Swahilis in Kenya - lives along the coast - mainly in urban areas - and also derogatorily called chotaras. The inter-mixture dates many years most of the time - btw coastal bantus(in kenya - mijikenda) and arabs (mostly omani arabs).

For example - Mombasa current Governor is Swahili.

Our minister of tourism - Balala - is Arab (Not swahili)


Kilifi Governor - Amason Kingi - is a coastal Bantu (Giriama - of Mijikenda (7 tribes of coastal kenya bantus)

What is a tribe to you. These chotaras have been around for 1000yrs or about. They identify themselves as a tribe. Mostly along the old towns they live in. Swahilis in Kenya have sub-tribes like wamvita, wa-rabai, etc etc. But they are a tribe. They are not just mix race. Speaking swahili doesn't make you a swahili. There are people who gave birth to swahili and help spread in east & central africa through TRADE. Those people are SWAHILIS. They don't have any other language. They are not arabs or bantus.
