Dude. Please I asked for a second opinion because I wasn't sure. If you guys had concurred, I would have processed with the WAEC result.

No offence oga, but you sounded a bit rude with your reply. Try to sound more courteous next time please.

PS: I had visited their website and I saw it as part of the requirements but I wasn't sure if it was compulsory.

Anyways, thanks all the same
Again not everyone is a dude on nairaland. i thought the f and m placements are for identification?
undecided Nigerians tho any reply that doesn't favour them is rude. Hmm if you had visited the site then why did you doubt her? undecided

The WAEC requirement is a recent one. One can only imagine how many scam degrees WES must have recieved from Nigeria to include it.

So Yes, WAEC is part of the requirements and the evaluation cannot be completed until after they've recieved your verified results. By the way, ensure to include a scratch card along with your postal order.

Thanks for your mature reply bro. A breath of fresh air

I truly appreciate and see the reason for that requirement.

Good day fam. If you require a second pair of eyes for your SOP, I'm still available. However, for those who may be shy or overly scared of plagiarism, here's one for you. In academics, there is a certain way of writing and it never changes. Your SOP is not an opportunity to restate your CV. Instead your SOP should be more like a cover letter for your CV.
In terms of content, as much as possible, you should answer the following questions: Why have you chosen the program? Why have you chosen the school? What are your plans, short-term and long-term? Why should the school choose you (I.e., how do you fit in both in terms of research experience and current interests)? Outside of academics, who are you? Answering these questions should make you SOP stronger.
In terms of structure, I would advice you to start off with a very strong introduction that briefly answers all the questions. Here you would do yourself a lot of good by spending sometime on your research interests. Try to highlight areas of fit and specify interesting research questions. Also ensure that you state names of your POI here. It is also better to conclude this paragraph by outlining how this program would help you achieve your long-term goals. In my opinion "being a professor of management" does not sound better than "a career in teaching and research on topics such as leadership and employee motivation."
In the next paragraph, I would advice you to bring in your most relevant research experience. In this paragraph, you should try to "show don't tell". By this, I mean it is not enough to just tell the committeee that you have experience or skill.

Thanks for your contribution. I'm sure most people will find this useful #Fall2019

The magoosh is an online prep for the GRE that contains videos, exercises, lecture notes, etc. But you need to pay to get all these and B.Y Mafit gives you that access.

I don't know if it has changed, but modules are covered in phases. You should be able to flow whenever you join though. Though they start new modules somewhere in between your class, so, even if it looks like abracadabra at first, you'll fit in gradually. The classes are interactive, so, you can always ask questions if not clear.

As per materials, the Kaplan is a good starting point. I would suggest you start with the Kaplan and magoosh with the Manhattan online prep accompanied with the lectures first. For me, I used the lectures as the major guide then used the materials to research more on what was taught in class. That worked for me cos I was able to use those mad shortcuts they taught. Others could have different combinations based on what worked for them. I've seen someone who used Grubers and said it worked like magic.
thanks much bro. God bless

In the third paragraph, you should bring in your academic experience, especially if this is not your most recent research experience. Although there'll be that temptation to start listing courses, topics treated and thesis experience are more important. Your transcripts would carry the names of your courses, dwell more on topics covered. Also, I think it's important for you to walk the committee through your thesis experience. Process, research questions, methods, and findings are really important.
In your fourth paragraph, you should highlight your other reasons four joining the program. Here you must try as much as possible to be specific.
Fourth paragraph should contain something about yourself outside of academics. Here I would advice you to tell the committee what else you can add to the community.
Fifth paragraph should be that strong conclusion.

For the structure of each paragraph after the first, the first sentence should state the main idea. Every other sentence should provide explanations about that opening sentence. For instance, the second paragraph should start with something like "currently, I work as a research assistant at xnxx.com. In this role I have worked closes with Prof. HOC. Amongst my research contributions at xnxx.com, I have done xyz"

Finally, this is just my own opinion. I am neither a professor not a committee member, you should take this with a pinch of kilishi and a bottle of orijin.

If I remember any other thing ama update this post. Cheers to your adimishun.
Thank you so much for this. Can you also drop your mail?

Good day people

I have a quick question please.

For someone applying for an MS degree in the USA, does WES require WAEC to send his/her result?

I'm currently in Abuja working and the person helping me process my result from Lagos (which is where I had my undergrad studies) says WES also requires WAEC but I feel she isn't been sincere with me. How true is this please?

I mean, I'm applying for an MS degree and not a Bachelor's degree, so I don't understand the need for my verified WAEC result.

So please, I urgently need your opinions on this? For those who have applies for MS degree in the USA, did WES require your WAEC result?

Thanks.
Yea,WAEC is needed
This is what is on WES website
"On August 3, 2018, WES modified the document requirements for applicants seeking to have their Nigerian academic credentials evaluated. In accordance with this change, WES applicants must submit their high school documents for all evaluations of post-secondary study at Nigerian institutions.

If you submitted a WES application and received a WES Reference Number prior to August 3, 2018, this change does not affect you. WES will contact you by email if additional documents are required."

Tough one. Not impossible though. Given your low CGPA and GRE, full funding may be a bit tough in my opinion. I think you should refire the GRE since that's the only thing that can change in your profile. Also get the TOEFL done and target a great score. Then you can narrow down schools.

Wow. This is great news. Congrats on your admission. Did you apply for MS or PhD? I pray for full funding for you too. But see if you can reach out to professors about the prospects of an RA. Goodluck.

PS. For your University of Florida app, did you have to send official transcript and certificate?

Hello everyone.

I have been a silent follower of this thread for months now, I have finally decided to take the GRE in February. My profile:

Bachelor of Technology in Statistics
CGPA :4.07/5.0
I am planning on going for masters in Statistics or data science in the US, I have applied to some schools for fall 2019 but the GRE is the main section still pending. Hoping to meet up for schools with rolling admissions or late deadlines though.

I would appreciate any point or information that would be useful to my GRE and admission process.

Thanks

Hi. Data Science, albeit nascent is a burgeoning and lucrative industry. There are many schools offering this course. I wish you could take the GRE before January so you'll make the PhD in Data Science deadline at University of Tennessee Knoxville (Jan 31st). Very well rated. Okay. Fingers crossed for you then. As for the transcript, perhaps that was the case for your department. For Electrical Engineering however, we were required to send official documents or our applications would not be considered. They don't even send unofficial decisions. Couldn't meet the deadline so I just let it go. Was sad cos I really love the school. I hope you get it.

I'm so sorry about your result. I think I posted what I feel you should do earlier in this thread before you took your test. I was thinking you would reschedule the test. I can see you wrote the previous test on the 31st of October (If I'm correct) and you wrote the next a couple of hours ago. And given your range of scores, there could not have been much improvements. The prep time was just too short.

I would have given other suggestions, but the hard truth is funding may not be as feasible as when you have great GRE scores. Though other factors like your CGPA come into play. I know it's difficult to write again after two attempts, but if i were in your shoes, I'll write again but this time, I would do things very differently. I would still suggest you read my earlier reply and adhere to it. Also, if you can, register at B.Y Mafit www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com/gretestdatesinnigeria and go for 10 weeks lectures straight. Also make use of the magoosh and Manhattan online prep they give. The Manhattan has lots of practice questions. All these resources are free. Also, while there, join study groups and read arduosly. Then budget another 2-3 months for practice. I think there are some uploads here as well, though many of them would be outdated.

I know of a girl who scored just like what you scored, and took the steps I earlier suggested and had an upwards of 220.

Just as CptCharlesVane said, the GRE turns the wise of this world to fools and gives great scores to a foolish underperforming person who knows what he's doing

If you can't rewrite, and it's an absolute no, then I may be able to point you in the direction of some schools that will likely give admission based on other factors with a low GRE score.

From my experience with the GRE, I think the KAplan's; MAnhattans etc can only help a bit on the easy to medium questions. Even the free ETS resources help just only on the easy to medium questions. But they all fail woefully when it comes to preparing one for the Actual difficult questions on the GRE. I was getting 157-160 on practice tests, yet got below that on the actual tests.

I dare say the format of the current GRE questions are even changing, hence previous materials (manhattan et al) we use in preparing are becoming irrelevant

If I do have to rewrite in the future, I think I will consider the Paper option. At least with that, my fate is not in the hands of an adaptive software program that is designed to feed me overly difficult questions in the second section, just because I scored high in the first section.
This adaptive construct ends up making a mess of one's GRE scores....Damm it
