Ok, if tonight is abt narrating our ordeals with Lagos then I have one too(lols). I actually considered change of environment too after my first IELTS in Abeokuta.
Na so I registered for the 2nd(BC) in Lagos. Mehn! We managed to start around 11am owing to large crowd of takers. Na so dem start with Writing first o, followed by Reading. Everytin was going smooth until we were abt to start listening, it actually took them abt another1hr+ to arrange the speakers & headphones, then in btw na him some people begin say they wan use toilet. Na him the examiner said no way 'cos actually we running out of time already, this was around 2pm already. Like play like play, na him commotion start o. In fact a guy bragged he would slap the lead examiner(a woman) and rained loads of abuses at her all cos he wasn't allowed to use the toilet. Las las, the woman succumbed o, come see as people begin stand up one by one to use toilet, in fact myself & wifey had to join too(lol). Am talking of abt 500+ of us o! My people, we began the listening part around 3:30pm and I tell u I lost track of nothing less than 10 questions cos at that time, everywhere is completely rowdy. So please, I think it's better if u can find your way outside Lagos will be ok couple with the several reasons sighted earlier.
But BC is usually very organised in their approach. This is comedy unlimited grin

Hello house, for those taking IELTS, I will give tips.
First a background. I did IELTS 3 times . Two previous occasions, my listening was always 8.5 and 8 but my R,S,W always flirted btw 6.5 & 7,no clean 7 overall. For my third attempt I got the following for LRWS..8.5,9,7,7
Listening
Time is of the essence. The discussions gets more difficult as you progress, quickly read the passage & anticipate what could be the answers, which requires comprehension of the context. Focus on 2 questions a time.

Reading
The biggest change I made was in strategy. Depending on if it is a 3 or 4 passage read comprehension. The first or first two text are actually "easy" to comprehend so you don't need read every word or sentence, just focus on the following: name of the topic, the sub titles, the first sentence of the paragraph and maybe the last, anything in bold focus and immediately go to the questions , don't take one, take 2 questions a time especially for the first one or 2 essay, depending on whether it is a 3 or 4 essay reading test.

Lastly, the way you read should take. Speed reading is an art, there are YouTube videos on this. Use your pencil to read, not your eyes alone. Start from the second word of the paragraph u are saving time and not losing comprehension. This is true for all reading, naturally for simpler text your speed reading will be fast for tough text like the last 2 or last one depending it will be slower but it is still faster that "ordinary" reading.

In addition, take 2 questions a time, naturally for the difficult text you have to read the whole text once or even several times some paragraphs to fully understand. I will post about speaking and writing later. Why can't I write more than few sentences on nairaland

Yes, if there is no LMIA and you are applying under FSW, you must provide POF because you do not have a qualifying job offer. LMIA also gives you 50 extra points.

If you are applying under CEC (which based on your posts you are not) then you do not have to provide proof of funds. In your case, you have to provide proof of funds. That your wife is working in Canada does not automatically mean she is exempt from POF.
I think she is qualify for CEC she has both Canadian education and work experience. Her job is also NOC B which she has been doing for over a year. I just submitted the profile yesterday night and it shows both FSW and CEC were met. Are we good to go sir/ma without the proof of fund?

My online family. Just had an experience with WES and I thought I should share, maybe someone will benefit from it.

So my ECA was completed in March, 2018. Then there was no requirement for WAEC/NECO evaluation. But I still sent my SSCE certificates together with my UK masters and Nigeria BSc.

Fast-forward to December 2018. I applied for course by course evaluation for professional registration. After I submitted my application, the automatic document requirements list appeared that I should send my SSCE certificates and scratch card for verification.

I've not sent the documents because of my schedule. Surprisingly, WES sent an email that all my documents is now complete. The my evaluation will be completed this month.

I'm just excited that I don't need to spend another cash sending SSCE scratch card..

In all, IT WILL END IN PRAISE.

You are good to go without pof but don't say yes to job offer if her job doesn't have a lmia. Go and study this.

In case anyone is concerned, this is just a friendly discussion so we can all understand better.

Sis, good discussion.

"She is working in Canada does not mean she automatically qualifies for CEC neither does it mean she is applying through CEC.": Nobody applies through CEC, FSW or FST again. That's pre-Express Entry. Express Entry system determines for you the program you qualify for based on your answers and the ranking is this CEC>FSW>FST.

"You don't know if she is working in a NOC A, B, or C occupation in Canada...": I actually assumed that. You cant do EE with NOC C. I assumed the case OP is interested in EE because the PA is working in NOC 0, A or B. The OP has to clarify that.

"...neither do you know if she has spent up to a year in that job in Canada": The OP stated that earlier in the discussion trail.

"Canadian education alone does not qualify you for CEC. What qualifies you for CEC is one year of work experience in a qualifying NOC category in Canada. You do not need Canadian education for CEC.": You are right.

[s]The best thing is for the OP to use the eligibility tool (see here). It will tell him which program the PA qualifies for. Also he should not choose "have a valid job offer"
[/s] Just read he has already done that.

You don't know if she is working in a NOC A, B, or C occupation in Canada, neither do you know if she has spent up to a year in that job in Canada. The OP stated that she is the PA, she could be the PA because of her Canadian education while relying on her Nigerian experience.

Canadian education alone does not qualify you for CEC. What qualifies you for CEC is one year of work experience in a qualifying NOC category in Canada. You do not need Canadian education for CEC.

I am 36years old, single and have a degree in Computer Science and MSc in Information Technology. I had about 6years work experience in all before I left Nigeria in 2017.

Currently I live and have a job abroad that’s not my core area of study.

Please what are my chances of being successful in the Express Entry/FSW program in Canada if I apply?

I need an advice on how to go about it considering that I don’t have a permanent residency here in Korea.

Thanks in advance for your positive feedback.

I know people are gonna try to be diplomatic with you and be like, you can still get it, and stuff like 'try and get a job offer, or do a program in Canada, or go through the Provincial Nomination route, or learn French', all of which are very difficult and may not be worth the stress, especially as you are already in a developed country. Bro I'm gonna be sincere with you, your chances are little to none if you are to the be the primary applicant. The program is getting more and more competitive by the day even for those in their twenties. In 2019 I don't see the CRS cut-off getting less than 445 readily.

Korea ain't a bad place. At least you are better than many stuck in Nigeria who desperately want to leave.

We are in the same boat. I went for your option 1 (my spouse and kids as non-accompanying) as that's the most viable option at this point in time.

Ill advise you to consider same too as the odds are too high with maxing out IELTS and a lower CRS draw.

laghopeful20181:
Good morning people,

Your advice will be appreciated please....

I am the PA. We had received ITA in september 2018. At the point of submission in November, i realised that my husband's IELTS had expired. After exploring all options, we had to decline the ITA. While back in the pool, I adjusted my profile - my husband as un accompanying spouse. I received another ITA in November -449 cut off (My score without my husband as accompanying was 451). A few days after receipt of ITA, I had a birthday.. In the meantime my husband registered for the 1st of December IELTS. After plenty research, I came to the conclusion that it was possible to make a spouse accompanying after receipt of ITA...providing that the score after adding the spouse meets up to or exceeds the cut off for the draw from which you received an ITA from (In this case, cut off of 449). Unfortunately, my husbands IELTS results came out as 8.5,6.5,6.5,6.5. If I add my husband to the current ITA I have now, the score falls below the cut off of 449. My choices as I see it now are as follows:

1. ahead with the ITA I currently have in which my husband is an un accompanying spouse (please not my IELTS expires on the 7th of January)
2. Decline the ITA I currently have. In this case, I go back into the pool. With my current age and husbands results our score will be 443....then hope and hope that the next ITA will have a cut off of 440 or 442.
3. If the next ITA is above 445, it means I will need to write IELTS again in January. IF I max out on IELTS points, our total points will be about 448.

I feel like a bird in hand is worth more than 10 in the bush oooo. I feel that I should go on with the current ITA I have. If all works out we can apply for spousal sponsorship in future....I have heard that spousal sponsorship is hard... how true is this? What would you all advice?

Thanks a lot

POF isnt really needed for CEC but do well to add paystubs. Sometimes they do request for POF in rare cases, a letter of explanation can be uploaded in that regard.

I had promised to share my IELTS story here. I'm just so grateful to God.
Pictured here is my new result with BC, the computer based test which I did Thursday the 13th Dec on the mainland

My first result was the same in LRS save the writing which was 6.5. I had used Jay videos and Oxford Online all on YouTube to prepare. I knew all the gimmicks, but when it was the time to write, I just became confused. I was no longer sure of myself.

When the results were released I reached out to @newmum then and she advised remarking and re-writing. I chose to rewrite.

So when the computer based option became available in Nigeria, I knew it was my time. I focused on the writing practices, especially because I knew the tension from writing would be removed. I am very comfortable using the computer. At the first attempt, Kai, I erased like there was no tomorrow. I just was so jittery.

Introduction
Random statement about the qiestion
Rephrase question
State what you will do

Paragraph 1
Point 1
Explain point
Supporting example

Paragraph 2
Same as above

Conclusion
Let the examiner know this is your concluding paragraph in your first sentence. E. G. As I conclude, In conclusion, To conclude etc.
Repharse question
Restate your answers again

Then use different sentence types. If possible stay away from the simple sentence [just subject and verb type]

You can tweak this depending on the questions asked. You also need to understand what the question is asking of you. Is it opinion only? Opinion and question? To what degree do you agree with the statement given? Etc. Understand the question well. This will come with practicing.

At the exam, we were only 16. It was in Gbagada. BC even gave us complimentary umbrellas. Lol

In all I just wanna thank God. Na to go collect TRF, update score and pray for speedy ITA.

Guys, don't despair over IELTS. Please don't accommodate negative thoughts. Yes, we may have challenges with the exam but that's all that are. They don't define you as a person.

We shall celebrate soon.
