For the computer based IELTS exam, you have 30mins for the listening section, as against 40mims in the paper based exam.

You'll get login details for each section and your speaking test will begin immediately after the LRW.

You'll be given instructions during the test and a demo will be shown on how to navigate the system during the test.

But, I think, it's best to go on YouTube and familiarize yourself with it before hand.

The computer won't highlight spelling errors, so be sure your spellings are correct. No bathroom breaks during listening.

You can have your water with you but no eating. It was chilled environment

Well, the speaking was on the same day. So no 'go come'.

For me, it was better than writing with hand.

I seriously doubt that. The SSCE verification is for mostly Nigerian schools. I stand to be corrected though

Goodafternoon house. I have been following this thread for a while and I am getting really enlightened. However I have a situation for a colleague who was banned for misrepresentation.

Her hubby wants to apply for Express Entry, she asked me if he will be also inadmissible since they are married even though the lady is not accompanying.

Should her hubby carry or will be have to wait for her?

Note: they both have an understanding about his movement plans.

I am 36years old, single and have a degree in Computer Science and MSc in Information Technology. I had about 6years work experience in all before I left Nigeria in 2017.

Currently I live and have a job abroad that’s not my core area of study.

Please what are my chances of being successful in the Express Entry/FSW program in Canada if I apply?

I need an advice on how to go about it considering that I don’t have a permanent residency here in Korea.

Thanks in advance for your positive feedback.

On a second thought, you can give it a try like the majority have spoken. It may be difficult especially when you know you will be under pressure to get excellent scores in IELTS of at least LRWS - 8.5 8, 7.5, 7.5. It is possible, however. All the best.

Please send ielts materials to adediran34@gmail.com

boco2126:
On this IELTS issue...my two cents.

1. Stick to a FEW practice materials! The number of materials for IELTS that we see on a daily on this thread can be overwhelming. Try out only a few and stick to the one that resonates with you. Don't use ieltsliz, Jay, Cambridge, ieltsadvantage, road2ielts etc at the same time (some of these peope don't agree on the same approach and reading all can get really confusing). If you try one and it sits well with you, ditch others. Focus on that one and be a master of it. I almost got overwhelmed at some point, because l wanted to open every link or try every material l saw here. But l had to give myself brain oh.

2. Practise everyday. No excuses. Create the time. Even at work, you can use your lunch break to practise. Instead of listening to music or radio on your way to work, listen to your downloaded tips on writing, speaking, reading, listening. When walking down the streets, have an earpiece on (l hate this, but we can make sacrifices for one month abi?) and keep LISTENING. At weekends, practice speaking with your wife/husband, friend, son/daughter etc. Write out questions and tell them to ask you (under exam conditions). I finished a WHOLE 30 leaves notebook for listening practice (yeah l work an 8 to 5 and live on the mainland with my office on the island -remember, no excuses!). Always check your wrong answers and replay those portions and find out what you didn't hear properly. I used youtube for listening/speaking/reading.

3. There's this ielts expert too, one Ryan (cannot remember his surname) that l think is underrated. I used his tips for writing. He talks about 15 sentences max for writing. 3 paragraphs with 4 sentences and the closing paragraph should have 3 sentences. This keeps you in check and you already know what to write before the exam, all you will be waiting for on the ielts day is the topic given! I can share his materials if you drop your email address.
For writing, write letter and essays! Don't read what someone else wrote. Write yours too. Some people practise writing by reading another's work -WRONG! write yours too and compare. Minimum letters to write on different topics - 10. Minimum essays - 20. Revise your work and look for better ways to reconstruct your sentences. I suggest you write with pencil on your exam day so you can erase if need be.

4. For reading - use youtube. It also has a timer, so practice using the time and don't stop the timer or pause the video. The easiest comprehension in reading are the first two. Spend less time there. Say 5 mins tops for each. You do not need to UNDERSTAND nada. Just look at the instructions (very important), then the questions, then scroll through the passages for the answers. You need all your time for the last two passages. They are more technical.

5. For speaking - Be confident, relaxed and know your basic english and introduction (see ieltsliz). See this as an interview. We all attend interviews don't we? I got a list of 42 likely cue cards from ieltsliz blog (l think she said they change it every 3 months but she always update the cue card questions) and l practiced the 42 different topics and l always set my two minutes timer with my phone. You can be in the BRT or your car and practice this one, or when walking down the street or whilst doing chores at home, or lying down in your bed doing nothing (l did this. Some days, people will think you are going crazy because you are talking to yourself, but...who no go no know). One of the 42 questions l practiced was my cue card during my speaking test -something on my pet animal (l was wondering "madam why me? Animal kwa?" but because l had practised earlier, the examiner had to cut me off when it was two minutes. I just went on and on.

4. Lastly and certainly not the least...the place of PRAYER. I'm catholic, so when l saw the prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino here, l made a mental note to say it. I started saying it every day from September till i wrote my exam on the 1st of November. I even added a 9 days St. Joseph of Cupertino novena with prayer and fasting which ended on the 31st of October (l'm that extra oh. I left no chances). I asked my family to add me in their prayers too. So, pray, pray and pray. Whatever works for you. Someone dropped one St. prayer here on financial assistance for POF, best believe l'll look for that prayer and do it too!

5. People have done it, you too can. Don't be discouraged if you have tried more than once. We don't give up on this thread oh. Being here has taught me a different level of selflessness and never say never spirit. People you don't even know are quick to help and empathise and l am still in awe of you guys.

6. Please drop your email address so l can send the Ryan materials to you.

This too shall pass!

All the best everyone and my apologies for the long post.

I know people are gonna try to be diplomatic with you and be like, you can still get it, and stuff like 'try and get a job offer, or do a program in Canada, or go through the Provincial Nomination route, or learn French', all of which are very difficult and may not be worth the stress, especially as you are already in a developed country. Bro I'm gonna be sincere with you, your chances are little to none if you are to the be the primary applicant. The program is getting more and more competitive by the day even for those in their twenties. In 2019 I don't see the CRS cut-off getting less than 445 readily.

Korea ain't a bad place. At least you are better than many stuck in Nigeria who desperately want to leave.

I am yet to get it and I've been calling them since last thursday but they are not answering or responding to my email. Is it advisable to just go there without booking an appointment or is there an alternative way of reaching them?

If I withdraw my profile for any reason, do I have to select yes when creating a new one that I had applied for EE before?

Two quick questions please guys,

1. How do I apply if I don't want to claim points for a sibling in Canada without lying? Will I get the option to say I don't want to claim points during application or I must lie and say I don't have a sibling?

2. How do l claim one year NYSC work experience since one month was spent in camp, can I ask PPA to give me letter that covers camp? is it acceptable?

Will appreciate responses please, didn't find explanation on page 1.

Congratulations Nenesisi

I rejoice with you.

So i picked up my EOR from BC today and my results were upgraded. (L-8.5, R-7.0, S-7.5, W-6.5). I had remarked my W and S with initial scores as 6.0 and 6.5 respectively.

Even though my crs is still not within the target required, I am thankful. I will be rewriting the tests in Jan or Feb. This computer based looks promising....

It will end in praise.

NeneSisi:
I had promised to share my IELTS story here. I'm just so grateful to God.
Pictured here is my new result with BC, the computer based test which I did Thursday the 13th Dec on the mainland

My first result was the same in LRS save the writing which was 6.5. I had used Jay videos and Oxford Online all on YouTube to prepare. I knew all the gimmicks, but when it was the time to write, I just became confused. I was no longer sure of myself.

When the results were released I reached out to @newmum then and she advised remarking and re-writing. I chose to rewrite.

So when the computer based option became available in Nigeria, I knew it was my time. I focused on the writing practices, especially because I knew the tension from writing would be removed. I am very comfortable using the computer. At the first attempt, Kai, I erased like there was no tomorrow. I just was so jittery.

Introduction
Random statement about the qiestion
Rephrase question
State what you will do

Paragraph 1
Point 1
Explain point
Supporting example

Paragraph 2
Same as above

Conclusion
Let the examiner know this is your concluding paragraph in your first sentence. E. G. As I conclude, In conclusion, To conclude etc.
Repharse question
Restate your answers again

Then use different sentence types. If possible stay away from the simple sentence [just subject and verb type]

You can tweak this depending on the questions asked. You also need to understand what the question is asking of you. Is it opinion only? Opinion and question? To what degree do you agree with the statement given? Etc. Understand the question well. This will come with practicing.

At the exam, we were only 16. It was in Gbagada. BC even gave us complimentary umbrellas. Lol

In all I just wanna thank God. Na to go collect TRF, update score and pray for speedy ITA.

Guys, don't despair over IELTS. Please don't accommodate negative thoughts. Yes, we may have challenges with the exam but that's all that are. They don't define you as a person.

We shall celebrate soon.

I think she is qualify for CEC she has both Canadian education and work experience. Her job is also NOC B which she has been doing for over a year. I just submitted the profile yesterday night and it shows both FSW and CEC were met. Are we good to go sir/ma without the proof of fund?

Yes, you should be alright then. During our time, if you wanted to be picked based on CEC, you were to put 0 in proof of funds. That will make the system put you under CEC when you get your ITA. I'm not sure what happens now but if the system places you under FSW after ITA and you don't include POF, you will have to put in an LOE explaining that you qualify under CEC and that's the stream you are interested in.

In case anyone is concerned, this is just a friendly discussion so we can all understand better.

Sis, good discussion.

"She is working in Canada does not mean she automatically qualifies for CEC neither does it mean she is applying through CEC.": Nobody applies through CEC, FSW or FST again. That's pre-Express Entry. Express Entry system determines for you the program you qualify for based on your answers and the ranking is this CEC>FSW>FST.

"You don't know if she is working in a NOC A, B, or C occupation in Canada...": I actually assumed that. You cant do EE with NOC C. I assumed the case OP is interested in EE because the PA is working in NOC 0, A or B. The OP has to clarify that.

"...neither do you know if she has spent up to a year in that job in Canada": The OP stated that earlier in the discussion trail.

"Canadian education alone does not qualify you for CEC. What qualifies you for CEC is one year of work experience in a qualifying NOC category in Canada. You do not need Canadian education for CEC.": You are right.

[s]The best thing is for the OP to use the eligibility tool (see here). It will tell him which program the PA qualifies for. Also he should not choose "have a valid job offer"
[/s] Just read he has already done that.

cc: @mikel88

Yeah, you are right in the ranking. The OP had earlier stated he was applying under FSW that's why I said he must provide POF notwithstanding his wife's employment status in Canada. He has now clarified that they qualify for CEC as well so it's all good.
