Casual are 1to 5 days leave exclusive of 30 working days annual leave.

However if you exhaust 5 days of casual leave, any subsequent 1 to 5 days leave will be deducted from your annual leave.

Annual leave in Civil service is the 30 working days (depending on your level) leave with leave bonus which you are entitled to.

Casual leave is the 7 days leave mainly for unforseen issue which you are not entitled to. It depends solely on the discretion of the management. You can only apply for your Casual leave after you've exhausted your Annual leave.

I don't know about leave in the private sector.

Is compassionate leave not meant to take of the unforeseen circumstances?

according to civil service rules you can go on casual leave if your annual leave is exhausted meaning any leave you applied for before your annual leave is part of the annual leave

All the explainations here have been the difference between 'annual leave' and 'casual leave',which are very correct but, nobody has been able to explain the position of the law on casual leave.

From the explainations, all i can add is that, it appears the CASUAL LEAVE is a prerogative of the management and its grant/permission is in descresion of the magnt.

If you are in the private sector, unless you've got another job, there is no need to fight your employer. If their policy /policies are not good for you, quit and go to another place.

The Nigerian labour act is silent on casual leave. Casual leave is majorly at the discretion of the employer and going by standard practice, it is usually 07 days in a year. Casual leave is mainly for emergency situation. For example, you want to attend a funeral ceremony fixed for a month ahead, you cannot take casual leave as it is not emergency, such will be taken as casual leave but deductible from your annual leave. If per adventure, you rushed your child to hospital and you need to be with the child, such will be treated as emergency as you are entitled to casual leave with pay. Above all, casual leave is at the discretion of the employer.

Annual leave is provided for in the labour act and it is a minimum of six days in a year.

Dear all,

One funny law has just recently been made in my office to the effect that, all your casual leave will be deducted from your annual leave, now the impression i have gathered about the casual leave issue is that the Nigerian Labour Law states that you are entitled to five days of casual leave exclusive of your leave in a year.

Does anyone out there have an idea of what the law states on what the general standard should be about issues like this, as i would really like to take this up with the overzealous hr in my office always trying to impresss the whiteys with so called "innovation"

bro do u work in a manufacturing industry?

Annual leaves are earned leaves
Certain amount of annual leaves can be carried forward in the next year.

Casual leaves are other set of leaves that you are entitled to receive in a year which is again based on you company policies. Casual leaves lapse by the end of the year if unconsumed.

Weekends are always excluded. So when you plan your holidays you ensure to work out in this manner.

Hummm, mY coy doesnt carry over annual leave o.. it CAn only b substituted for cash upon delibration

Casual Leaves are leaves taken casually, like when you just want to rest and relax.
Annual leaves are leaves taken annually, once a year. They are planned and are not taken casually.
End of Story!

That's absolute callousness....unimaginable wickedness....How on earth will medical leave be a salary-deductible leave.
As a matter of fact, Medical leave is even more important than the annual leave.
It's only when you are healthy that you can work.

So long the medical conditions are true, then medical leave should be highly regarded.
Which Staff condition of service are you quoting this one from?

Casual leaves don't have allowances assigned to them and you will not be paid the wage assigned to the period of this type of leave.

Casual leaves are not 'Rights' of employees, they are awarded based on management discretion. You must earn it. Annual leaves are employees' 'Right', who have served for 13th months minimum.

You are entitled to 5days casual leave and 30 days annual leave.

1. Casual leave cannot be deducted from Annual leave.
2. You cannot apply for Casual leave unless you ve exhausted your annual leave.

Casual leave is 5 days in a year. And it can be taken during emergency situations ONLY IF you have exhausted your Annual leave. Casual leave cannot be taken more than 2 days at a stretch.

May differ from organisation to organisation

with my small knowledge about Causal leave and Annual leave....5 days causal leave can only be given when you have exhausted your 30 days Annual leave but Annual leave can even be carried forward to another year in agreement with your Boss to deferred the leave.
Re: Casual Leave:annual Leave What Is The Difference Please by akaahs(m): 10:23am On Dec 19, 2018
Leave is the authorised absence of an officer from duty for specific period

Annual leave is the absence of an officer of GL 07 and above=30 calendar days, GL04-06=21 calendar days and GL03 and above=14 calendar days.

Casual leave is the absence of an officer from duty for a shot period not exceeding an average of 5 working days within a leave year as may be authorised by a superior officer. The casual leave is only granted after an officer has exhausted his/ her annual leave. Casual leave is deductible in advance or arrears of earned leave.

For some organizations any casual leave before annual leave should be deducted from annual leave. In my office which is govt agency they deduct your casual if you go before your annual leave, but if you go for your annual leave then you can apply for a casual leave without deductions.
