Im also in the same shoe as you are, though mine was st.cloud. i got an appointment date for 14th but im suppose to be in the states by 7th. Requested an expedited appointment and it got denied even tho this is my first interview. I had to ask for an extension letter from my sch and the furthest date they extend for me was till 13th. Im left with the option of waiting for a closer date to pop up or defer to summer or fall.

bro, the extension letter they sent you was it soft copy or hard copy?

Just print it out.

Your profile determines which is best for you. Age, academic level, career goals, dream, and financial status determines which is best for you. If you have a degree but considering a second degree and you are very young (say under 22), this may be really cool. If you are 23 above and considering another degree other than masters, your chances of getting a visa is slim. So, you have to sit down and draw your plan and see which is best for you.

An undergraduate degree is a foundation for a professional career; it does not give you the best you could get for and from a career; masters is more of advancement--Like, "I want to know more about this field, so that I can do more with my career and go to places". A masters degree gives you advanced skills, advanced theoretical and practical understanding and exposes you to latest working ideas in the real world. It also increases your chances of getting ideal job. With a masters from the US, you can get a very nice Job back home. There is even a better prospect of getting a better job in Nigeria with a masters from the US than getting such within the US--especially if you don't hold a green card. In Nigeria, you can change modus operandi of your organization, you could help increase the company's worth, and you could be offered promotion that will launch you into the realm of opportunities, etc. The social impact is also huge. But unfortunately, many of us don't like Nigeria, hence we never really want to bring the knowledge down here and impact.

Good luck!

Godchangemylife:
Hello gurus,Is there any special benefits of getting an undergraduate degree in the US other than Graduate degree. Or both works thesame in terms of getting a good, well paying and comfortable... In short what are the differences of getting UnderG Or the graduate degree?

thanks bro. Tell your school to help you extend that 13th small na to aid your interview. Was it your grad coordinator that told you 13th. You know receiving passport after issued visa takes about 3 business days.

Print that thing is they said and use it as evidence where need be. At least they said something. That is good.

Why TAMUK is the same as Why did you choose TAMUK.Remove the aside from and go straight to the point. Also, talk about research before multidisciplinary points.
Also notes that most courses in the US are multidisciplinary so it is not a strong point. You may want to talk about the course synopsis emphasizing a particular course which is you are more interested in place of multidisciplinary curicullum.Like it emphasizes sustainable development which you think can help you in so and so areas...that's better.
Are you for spring?
I am considering TAMUK in summer.

Please check your PM. Santa has visited you. lol

Hello house,

My visa was delayed yesterday at Lagos embassy though dis is my second attempt after being denied a b1/b2 visa last year September, the Vo asked me just two questions of which I answered her confidently the next thing was the blue paper,am still depress right now because I have a very influential sponsor who is my uncle and ready to sponsor my education. Below is the questions that I was asked

VO: What university am going to?
Me : Am going to the University of Akron in Ohio

VO: How did I hear about the University
Me: Told her the first time I heard about the University of Akron was during an educational seminar held at Akwa Ibom when I was still serving, then later visited their official website to get more information about the school and I was impressed with their faculty profile and course curriculum.

That's all she asked me before giving me the blue paper though I have a brother presently in the University of Akron who is a masters student.

Please gurus in the house should please help me look into this and aligt wat went wrong before I re-fire.

While filling th DS160, there was a place you were asked if you had any relative in the US right? What did you fill?

I am suspecting they know your brother is schooling there and hence you were suppose to hear about it from your brother and not from any other place.

Again, another place I am suspecting is this: WHO HELD THE EDUCATION SEMINAR IN AKWA IBOM STATE? I think u should have stated it. Like saying I heard about it in an Education Seminar organized by XYZ in Akwa Ibom state and then u try to broaden on what the speaker or whoever you heard it from had to say about the school.

These are my two pieced assumption sha in my own small thinking. I just think so.

*I had to modify this post*
I had to read your post again. When did you serve? Was it same year you were denied a b1/b2 visa? If yes, VO will see it that u wantu run away with school as shortcut. If NO (meaning u have heard about it since), VO will be like, why didn't u come that time for an F1 interview but rather u opted for B1/B2?

Another way to view this is, when u wanted to go on a B1B2 visa, were u going to visit ur brother? If yes, then MY FIRST EVER POINT HERE HOLDS THAT THEY ALREADY KNOW U SHOULD HAVE HEARD ABOUT THIS SCHOOL FROM UR BROTHER.

It's that easy. I could be mistaken though. This is just from my small brain sha.

It seems u will need to go for another visa interview o cos it seems u will have issues at the Port of Entry. I am not sure sha but seem I have read such on this thread last year.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and wait for a more authentic response from people that know better.

Thanks a lot for this information, my intention at first was to tell them that my brother recommended it to me but I was told by one of the gurus in the house that if I make mention of that it could be a red flag for me bc they might see me as an intending immigrant, so I just came up with something to say.
And yes I filled that I have a brother in the state,it was after my service but same year I applied for a visiting visa

Since you have a brother studying in same school, they knew you heard the school from your brother and what you said made them feel that you are lying. Best thing to do is to apply to other schools maybe in another state, then use the new school next time.

...and one annoying thing about these Consulars is that, if you come back and say you heard it from another source again, they will just throw you the blue paper like were politicians dey spray money for party.

I will advise sha, next time come up with the truth. They already have your info. You willingly gave it to them.

if I may ask, is your brother now out of status? Is he not still schooling? So why not tell the VO that your brother can't stop talking about the school and this is stirring up the desire for you to go and experience same thing he is experiencing. That way, you sound true and cool. That's if your brother is still schooling o but if he has absconded and fallen out of status, it may be bye bye to the US for now until you improve your profile personally wella. I may be wrong o but I am talking from what I have heard in the past.

I have a friend whose brother joined the US Army from school. He didn't finish school. This my friend (whose brother is in the US Army) is a lecturer and got full funding with stipends. Guess the first question the consular used in greeting him. WHY DIDN'T YOUR BROTHER FINISH HIS STUDIES? Of course we all know this kinda question no dey get transcript nah... lol... Before my guy could pull up a defense, Consular throw another one: SO HOW WILL U PROVE TO ME YOU ARE NOT GOING TO TROLL THE PATH OF YOUR BROTHER? Before he could recover from the shock, Blue paper dey him hand already.

I will advise, if you must apply again, say the truth on how u heard about the school. Those guys know already.
