Should You Buy Xiaomi Phones...? by mikeycharles(m): 9:39pm On Dec 24, 2018
Why you should not buy Xiaomi phones.

There are so many threads dedicated to Xiaomi, Umidigi, Leagoo.. devices but are these phones worth the hype? If you could remember clearly from the Leagoo saga; an inferior chinese brand that was been sold for below $80 with a 4000 mah battery, a steal right? But this particular brand managed to destroy any confidence any consumer/buyer might have had about chinese products in general. There was the M8 and its successor the m8 pro which were both disasters sold at a "low-price", from screen problems to touchpad problems.

Now back to Xiaomi, this brand which has massive support here on nairaland and agents whose sole duty is to defend the brand has done the exact same thing Tecno phones and other rubbish that is been sold in the country, they mass produce so many series of devices with similar specifications and hardware but just change the name or the suffix.

Sold Mainly In China
This is one of the major setbacks the brand has, not to mention you could be easily duped online by a group scammers and frauds. Their main outlet is the famous E-commerce site; Aliexpress, your order is shipped from overseas to you, quite simple is it not? But the major drawbacks here is the time period, you have to wait for so long and sometimes you might even receive a defective item.

The phone itself; is it really worth it?
Well, the answer lies within you after reading this. Yes they produce fabulous products with wonderful specifications on paper!
Their cameras are not quite what it seems, so many users have complained about the bad quality of images taken with their cameras.
Although their processors are pretty good, they make use of the American chip producer; Qualcomm but they either make use old chips or obsolete processors. Some of their recent phones released this year come packed with snapdragon 625 or 660 or some later chipsets, compared to some brands like the LG V20 which was released in 2016 come with the snapdragon 820.

Price
The Xiaomi brand which is actually a clone of the Iphone is a cheaper product but at what cost. Their prices ranges from a $100-$500 which is a lot cheaper than most brands but lack "premium" features; mostly their cameras and overall quality build. Some of their antutu banchmark scores are not worth mentioning (except the pocophone) but they do offer the best in software optimization and support for their users. Plus they offer at least 2 years worth of android version upgrades and relevant security patches.

No customer service/ repair centre in the country, this may prove to be an issue especially when there is faulty hardware components but I use my phones frugally and I've never taken my phones to a repair shop or pray for something like that. So is it really an issue?

Finally, most chinese brands are great but please go behind what is written in paper, I have seen phones claiming to have a mega pixel of 20 and blah blah but in reality they are not up to 5 mega pixels. And a friendly reminder be weary of Mediatek chipsets; they are mostly used on "budget" phones which is code for inferior and substandard.

Make a wise choice today, go for Samsung, IPhone (if you can afford it), One plus, Lg, Huawei, ZTE...

first of all not all mediatek proccessors are trash, ive seen an mtk helio p60 phone beat a phone with snapdragon 636 in a speed test although the snapdragon phone was more expensive
And as for Xaiomi phones, well do u know that Xaiomi overtook samsung as the best selling phone brand in India, so even abroad there market presense is felt!!

As if OnePlus, Huawei and ZTE are not Chinese brands.

I laugh.

The so-called Xiaomi is the number 4 ranked mobile OEM in the world.

Even your acclaimed iPhone is manufactured and assembled in China.

Most of the things you wrote above are just as a result of ignorance and hearsay(especially the part where you put Xiaomi and Umidigi/leagoo in the same bracket) they are hardly your personal experiences.
"they mass produce so many series of devices with similar specifications and hardware but just change the name or the suffix"
This sub is for Huawei not Xiaomi. You should endeavour to use that thing in your hand very well by searching the internet well.
"Sold only in China"
You my bro are just posting nonsense. So how exactly is Xiaomi the biggest mobile brand in India by sales if they only sell in China?
They have physical presence in many Asian countries, the Uk, some European countries and even one or two countries in the Middle East and Africa.
"Some of their recent phones released this year come packed with snapdragon 651 or some later chipsets, compared to some brands like the LG V20 which was released in 2016 come with the snapdragon 820."
Which processor is "snapdragon 651?" It is just obvious you don't know shit about phones or you've been reading your tech news from shitty sources, because if out of the plethora of chipsets Xiaomi utilised in their phones manufactured this year and the only chipset you could muster out is one that does not even exist, then what exactly are you on about?
The Xiaomi brand which is actually a clone of the Iphone
What the heck does this statement even mean in 2018?
And you recommended One plus, Huawei, Zte and LG instead right? undecided And these brands are not Iphone clones too?
Their prices ranges from a $100-$500 which is a lot cheaper than most brands but lack "premium" features; mostly their cameras and overall quality build
How many Xiaomi phones have you used or owned? Because I am forced to wonder how you came to a conclusion about their build quality. So because Mi Mix 3 cost way less than a Samsung S9 then it is inferior in build quality? undecided Bros you go dey alright las las with this your skewed mentality about gadgets.
No customer service/ repair centre in the country
Bros! leave that thing! The samsungs and Apples of this world that have official repair centre in the country, how easy is it to get phones repaired? You can always order the parts of most Xiaomi phones online and give to experienced engineers to repair.
Finally, most chinese brands are great but please go behind what is written in paper
Xiaomi phones aren't just good on paper, they are arguably the best value when considering price to performance ratio. You don't just get good hardware, you get the most supported official Skinned Android UI i.e.MiUi
And surprise! surprise!! for an ignorant person like you, they have models that run officially on Stock Android. tongue

This is a typical example of "Post for posting sake".

How could Op be so ignorant this much? Or is he actually exercising his ability to write articles?

I have used phones. Xiaomi is one of the brand I got confidence with.

I started using Xiaomi since 2015 and its been the brand that got me addicted (Just like iPhone users).

As for the camera, if you need a good camera device from Xiaomi, you must boost your budget to get a camera focused Xiaomi device.

And how is the chipset obsolescent? This is where your ignorance got out of hand.

You are right with Leegoo device about screen failure.
