i don't know about graphics design oo but software development no be side hustle at all, na full time job..
unless you're a wordpress developer
before i got into web development, i be think say na beans because i thought wordpress solves it all and i looked down on the craft..
if you're going to be a fullstack freelance developer, you'll need knowledge of frontend tools,
html, css, bootstrap, javascript, angular or react
knowledge of one or two backend frameworks, django or flask, express and node, .net, spring, ruby on rails, (i think laravel for php, don't know much about php)
you'll need knowledge of databases, sq l(postgres, mysql) and nosql
you'll need to know about deployment, setting up your vps on cloud, (digital ocean, aws, azure)(this is a field on its own, it companies usually employ devops to handle deployment(they have certifications for this) but as a freelancer, you need to know about deployment)
no be beans
it may take you at least a year or two to be comfortable as a full stack web developer(comfortable, not a professional!!)
con add general applications development, systems programming and desktop applications, game programming, mobile app development..

unless all you do is build blogs, if you take on an e-commerce project for example (fairly complex), i don't see you being able to combine software dev with any other job thats doesn't count as a "passive income stream"
and when you don't have any jobs on ground, you'll probably be updating yourself with the new technologies that pop up every now and then
(for example few years back there nothing like react, today you can comfortably build a native android or ios app with react native(so why struggle with android, even android devs are moving to kotlin)

all this grammar wey i type depends on if you're using wordpress or not, you don't have to know all these if you use wordpress,(i've never used it before)

software dev is a convoluted field, walai, no be side hustle but its fun and very rewarding especially when your code works after hours of staring at your screen looking for bugs grin grin
baba na full time job abeg

Seems like you know a lot about this.....can we chat @the back yard, I don't want my fillage grin monitoring spirit to see what i'm up to

Nice.

Truth is what you first of all need is extra time. If you're employed and work like mad and go home a ghost were on earth will you find the energy to start a second stream of income through more work.

Unless its passive like investments in financial markets that you monitor from time to time, it's just not feasible except your the employer.
. Your head is there, seems like you waka pass through my mind grin,I really wanna learn Web design/dev,graphics..then others will follow up later, but my work is damn demanding...I work with MTN Nigeria, and I really wanna learn anything ICT, Cuz my love for system is out of this world...I work from Monday to saturday(thou Saturdays is from 10-2pm)..but i'm yet to squeeze out that time to start training embarassed

Download it.

Invest your time by reading all chapters before 2019.

After you done reading, start following all the advice therein, starting from from January, 2019.

I intend devoting at least 60% of my 2019 to improve n grind my skills in software development n programming. I was adviced I start with wordpress. What is your candid advice as a beginner in programming.......tnx in anticipation.
it all depends on you and what you're after..
if you intend to be a web developer, you can start with wordpress, i've never used wordpress before, so i can't say much about it, but it seems to get the work done

but if you intend to go deeper,

start with python, it's has very simple syntax and lets you focus most of your time on learning about programming not on individual lines of code
understand concepts in procedural programming:
like sequence, selection(if tests), repetiton(loops) (these concepts are the same regardless of language, thats why once you've become comfortable in one language, its relatively easier to pickup a another in a shorter amount of time)

understand concepts in functional programming
like arguments, and return values, namespaces e.t.c

learn about oop concepts(oop:object oriented programming)
like classes, methods, inheritance, multiple inheritance, operator overloading, encapsulation, abstraction, polymorphism, composition, delegation, e.t.c
( again the same everywhere regardless of language, and oop is used in almost anything software development)

then pickup a language that suits your needs,(you could continue with python, if you wanted, personally python does a lot for me, especially web dev and data science, even destop apps and it's even used for mobile apps(kivy) but i wouldn't go there, e don try grin grin)

if you want to learn to build mobile apps for ios, you'll have to learn swift

if you want to build desktop apps, java(javafx) or c++

if you want to do games programming, c++(unreal), c#(unity) or java(python is good too but for 2d games like tetris or space shooters)

for android development, android, kotlin or javascript(using ionic(a javascript framework for building mobile apps))

if you want to go into ai(artificial intelligence, datascience, deep learning, machine learning, data visualization, python all the way!!)

the point is different languages are better suited for different needs, if you want to learn web development (which is probably the most sought after field alongside mobile app dev), i'll advise you learn php and laravel, or c# and .net(dotnet) or java and spring(these are the most popular languages used in developing websites in nigeria, i believe nairaland is built using php also)

regardless of what you learn, you'll find that asides syntactical differences, the programming concepts i told you about earlier are more or less the same everywhere, of course you could also use one of those crash courses to get up to speed ( build a website in 30 minutes sort of course grin) , but you'll need to know those concepts on the long run if you want to really know what is happening in your code

this is a brief overview not a detailed guide to help launch your career as programmer, as you do your own personal research i hope you find more answers that make sense and are useful to you, i fear my speech here may have just bored/confused you grin grin

the best way to learn is to build something, always have a project your working on no matter how small, it could be a word count program when you're starting out, or a guessing game, or tic tac toe(X and O) e.t.c, the more you build the more you know, and there are times you'll get really bored, no motivation to go on (like this happens a lot), if you have an end goal in sight(maybe to build your own reddit or nairaland or jumia e.t.c or even your own word cookie or flappy birds) it helps a lot, you begin to search or ask questions in line with that goal and see more useful answers that motivate you to carry on....

by this time 2019 sha, i know say you go don gallant... grin grin goodluck

Whether you are a student, unemployed graduate, underpaid or a well-paid working class graduate, I will show you how to create multiple streams of income.

If you want to be financially independent, then creating multiple streams of income should be at the back of your mind.

Unless you are a politician or you work in an oil company – of which not even all of them are rich, then you need multiple streams of income to become rich in this country.

Currently, I have 3 sources of income, and I aim to increase it to 5 in the New Year. Does this look like something you would also love to do?

I will show you how I did mine, so you can copy my model to create multiple streams of income for yourself.

Note: It isn’t as easy as I will explain here. You must work hard every single hour and minute of the day. The more input you have the better results and output you will see.

How can you create multiple streams of income for yourself?

Create a Base Income Source

This base income source can be practically anything that gives you money. This might be the hardest source of income for you if most likely you are unemployed or a student and want to create multiple streams of income.

If you have a job already, then you can practically skip these steps and move on to the next one.

One of the mistakes unemployed graduates make while seeking to create a foundational income source is looking for a dream job. It doesn’t exist and most likely would take time even before it comes.

This foundational source of income is designed to help you build your financial bank for expenses that would occur later while trying to create other sources.

It would also remove pressure from you while in search of other streams of income. In essence, any job that pays well is okay for you to start. But remember to keep your focus on the bigger goals. This step is basically for unemployed graduates with no jobs. You can use this and establish your financial foundation.

Learn a skill

This point is very crucial because it will set the pace and open up other sources of income. To be able to make money outside your main job, you must be good at something.

I personally love ICT skills because it requires me to work from my computer during my spare time. It might be okay to start-up other offline businesses, but that would require your presence at the initial stage. This would create a sort of time conflict.

Skills like;

Mobile Application Development
Software Development
Graphics Design
Web Design/Web Development

Learning any of these can allow you to start-up your online company, freelance for people, carry-out projects, and the money will roll in. You can click any of the links below to register for your course of choice. [Links are on the blog, so please visit using the source link and get more information]

Create a Side Hustle

After I learned Web Design/Development and Content Writing, I quickly moved to start-up my own online agency where I carried out projects for clients.

Most times when the jobs became much, I would outsource and employ people to help. That was an easy way to create multiple streams of income aside from my day job. It didn’t affect my day job because I had everything already planned out – unlike if I had started a business.

The good thing about these online side hustles as a means to create multiple streams of income is that it requires little investments (learning fee) and it gives a huge profit margin.

If it costs you 100k to learn software development, a single project can earn you more than 500k in a month. The good part is that your investment fee is a one-time payment.

Invest in Liquid Portfolios

Nothing gets better than investing when you are looking to create multiple streams of income. Every single profit goes to my liquid financial investments. That way it can multiply your finances with minimal effort and no stress.

I have written on the best investments with low capital, high profit, and zero risks, and I believe you can check it out.

Once you have completed the 3-steps as I have explained, you see that you’ve been able to create 3 good sources of income.

Nothing is better than having money entering your accounts from several sources. But the bottom line remains in the fact that you need to have the skill to be able to compete. Whichever skill among the ones I have written is good for you, please inform me and I will give you more information on it.

I wish you a more financial stable new year in Advance – but you have to work harder than usual.

Till we meet again, make sure you subscribe for more exciting posts.

I hardly touch it now. I move it straight to the second income source to increase profit from it.

risk level: low . Returns .static

second source:
liquid investment: fixed deposit/treasury bill/commercial papers.

the more you invest here the more your profit

risk level: none. Returns: proportional to capital.

third source. oil and gas. (strictly pms).

took out from second income source to get this.

I started with the lowest level available with the help from a office customer I have been serving his process for about 3yrs.

risk level: fair. Returns : very good . currently generates half of my salary every month as income

i intend to buy a house and car in by 2019 or mid 2020 by God's grace.

I sold my car in 2016.

already have the house though just haven't finish the payment.

THIS IS AN AWESOME POST, BUT MUST ALL MULTIPLE STREAMS BE IT RELATED?

Maybe I am being kinda biased... I love IT because it gives me time leverage to do my daily job.

If you can set-up other side businesses offline, then it is also a good way to go.

Hehehehehehehehehehe grin grin..lagos traffic alone can mess up your plans..but I believe that if you love something you must create out time for it(check out how you create time for your baby)...So there is always time for something you love, maybe you are yet to see the window of opportunity in doing so!!!Due to my work schedule I have to hire a personal tutor for my ICT training,by January we'll kick off the training, I just want to have a skill for side hustle ds year..one thing I love about skills is they can never take it away from you except by yourself!!The little I have already in the office is fetching me little money, imagine when I explore it into something big...The result will be different
