the best time to buy is now when the market has lost more than 80% of its value..... But funny enough this is when inexperience investor will run away ,its sweet to buy now, cryptocurrency has come to stay, the government and the world financial organisation and institution Dont want it because transaction can rarely be monitored. And cryptocurrency has become a store in value....

But there are no 'certified financial advisors for cryptocurrency' as it is a burgeoning technology with substancially unproven capacity.

Sir! There are certified financial advisors in the crypto line. You'll be so amazed to know a 17 year old Brit is one.

As for you to understand what you wanna put your money in, what I mean by that is that your should decide if you wanna be an investor or a trader before going into crypto.

You consume Coindesk content.

Coindesk content? FYI I don't do cryptocurrency. Even if I were into it, I wont loose my money. It is very alarming that people who are heavily invested in BITCOIN know next to nothing about financial markets and how to use chart whether Japanese candlestick chart, renko charts. Guys who Invest million into BITCOIN but have no idea how to read the market and use technical indicators to support their decisions. It is very sad. However, one thing BITCOIN traders or investors should console themselves with is the fact that their coins still remain intact, it is the value of the coin that has drastically nosedived. A good news for example of a big company or a Central Bank of a big country adopting BITCOIN could send them coin to at least 6000 dollars. Another good news might get it to 10000, at this level smart guys who can read and interprete chart or who have someone like me as their financial advisor could have raked in profit before another bearish trend sets in.

Be it forex, equity, indices, metal, cryptocurrency trader, speculators, you just must be able to read the chart and Interprete it very well. People bought BITCOIN in 2016 and 2017 and made profit but didn't care to learn and study the market. They refused to educate themselves on the basics of trading. If they had, they will know that the market is on a perfect downtrend and will inform them to exit market and wait for a reversal before taking positions or at least mad money on the bearish market by selling on metatraders.

For those saying BITCOIN is scam, I have nothing to say besides the fact that may be gold too is scam. Common people fail to come to the knowledge that even a paper can be worth billions. A piece of old scroll can be worth a fortune. It is the value placed on it by people that made it worth that much. Gold used to be a medium of exchange before the dollar. If the value placed on bitcoin January 2019 is 4000 dollars and may be just may be, favourable news, favourable investors sentiments, higher liquidity and inflows hit bitcoin and create a high demand, this may force the value to hit another record high of 30,000 dollars, then believe me, if you are heavily invested in BITCOIN January, you could triple, quadruple your investment over a period of months or years.

I know that many of us here have been looking forward to being proven right about crypto and they are largely right that its a risky investment, but as for bitcoin, it depends on when you bought bitcoin. Most people forget that bitcoin really went crazy in the last three months of 2017. Those that bought bitcoin before August 2017 have still not lost even with all this dump. Infact they are still in green. Bitcoin was still around 2500 until July 2017 and its has still never gone down to that. Those that even bought further back in 2015 and 2016 are still in huge gains. Some people have been talking aboout bitcoin since 2012 in Nigeria. Crypto is still a very risky investment though and people should look at more stable investments like real estate especially those that dumped all their money on crypto.

. I dont disagree with your comment except the last statement. Nigerians are no where near the top bitcoin investors in the world. Infact, many poorer countries have more investors that Nigeria. Nigerians always like to insult ourselves and project the worst in fellow countrymen. The whole world is greedy. Have you seen wall street?. Stop this hell fire portrayal of Nigerians always. smart traders when shorting it on Exchanges and making millions
but people will just come here and start talking about what they dont know
bitcoin was not an investment, it was an e-currency

How people will dump money into what they do not understand still baffles me. First law of trading is dont invest money you can't afford to loose. No education at all. They are many in my office. They don't know anything. I mean, ask them what is support, resistance, trend, uptrend, downtrend, bull, bear. They don't know. Now crying over lose of value in BITCOIN. Praying and hoping for a bullish market, a prayer which may never be answered and even if it is answered, they do not have the necessary knowledge to know when to take profits and run.

BITCOIN is like gold, silver and other instruments like currencies, indices. They rise and fall in value due to market force and demand and supply. Bitcoin is not fixed asset like land that indefinitely rise. Even land and real estate fall too. Ask those who have land in Borno,Kaduna during religious wars, even Abuja for those politicians that use stolen funds to build houses. You speculate and take positions based on clear cut strategies informed out of technical and fundamental analysis. If you want investments, do tbills, money market fund, fixed deposit or buy land. Even those too have their risks. Peace out

Going through the thread I noticed ...1) a lot of people just heard bitcoin and equated it to mmm and other ponzi...2) and anot3her sect saying they lost...well as the adage goes you only loss in trading when you sell..so if you bought bitcoin at say 6k $ and went to sell at 4k $who is to blame? Your village people?what are you doing in a market you don't understand? You should blame your greed and get rich quick mentality (so they can oppress with big cars and mansions) and not a market you didn't take time to study and understand...
For all those talking trash out of ignorance....hope you keep watching from the side lines as digital money replaces your fiat.

. You are talking like a very experienced day trader. Hahaha. Many day traders lost nothing in crypto. Infact I am surprised that some are still trading and making profit in this market. Never go into something just to join the bandwagon. Study hard first. If not, you will lose massively.

Be fearful when others are greedy.

Be greedy when others are fearful.

The best time to sell was when uber drivers, bricklayers, students, Nairalanders, mama Nkechi etc started talking of bitcoin as the best investment in the world.

The best time to buy is now when the aforementioned people are crying that they have lost so much from bitcoin.

In 2013, bitcoin fell from $1200 to $72. Then it rose again to $20000. It's now $3000, so the choice is yours.

It is also important to distinguish between an investment and speculation.

When you buy an asset with the hope or belief that you would sell it to someone else for a higher price, that's speculation.

When you buy an asset with the hope or belief that it would give you regular cash flow, that's an investment.

Speculation: Bitcoin, Land, Forex, Stocks

Investment: Personal business, treasury bills, building for rent,

The so-called "worst investment" made some of us the most money even in this year-long bearish market.
