Re: The Torpedo by Nobody: 8:31pm On Dec 14, 2018
Jamal watched Chris. He looked as if he was out of place, waving the gun around. He was losing his steel.
Jamal moved fast. It was easy work to close the gap and grab Chris' gun and release an energy blast enough to hurl him outside the building.
Jamal went down on one knee, he could barely even hold his body up.
"You have interesting powers," Kelvin's voice said behind him. "You took Freddy out just whew! Not even breaking a sweat."
Jamal didn't answer. He was struggling to stand. But why?
"You can't move?" Kelvin asked rhetorically. "Sorry about that." He moved his lips inches from Jamal's right ear, and whispered: "they knew you would hurl as$ in here, playing superhero. While you had your hands full with those pests," he waved at Freddy and Chris, "I released some concentrated proton virus in the air. Freddy passed out immediately, so credit goes to you, mate." He burst into laughter and strode back to his seat.
"Who are 'they'?" Jamal managed to utter. He could hear his rasping breaths.
A loud bang came from the roof, a few metres away from where Jamal knelt.
Dust filled the air. Jamal covered squinted at the four silhouettes that appeared in the room, the dust screening them.
"Look what we got here," a low posh voice said, "the human actually delivered."
"Don't get too excited," a louder plane voice said. "And keep your guards up."
"Enough with the jiffy jaffy," another voice, a cheery one, said. "Never got to meet our frienemy eye to eye."
By this time, the dust has settled. Jamal's heart sank.
Three men in elegant suits and very tanned skin stood there. They appeared to be glowing under the lighting. They all looked similar except for one who had an arrogant air about him.
The forth person was Katrina, in her father's white robes, wielding her staff.
Jamal felt his legs crumple beneath his weight and his vision blurry. A certain kind of cold air swept across the room. Jamal's training and powers made him a force to be reckoned with. That confidence alone was enough to flush whatever fear he might've felt at the sight of an enemy.
Until today.
His hands betrayed him first. They were shaking, badly.
Then his heart. He felt powerless, hopeless.
"Hello," one of them appeared in front of him, smiling. "I'm Edward."
***
Chris stirred on the dusty ground. He grunted to his feet and started a fruitless search for his gun. He momentarily forgot where he was until he saw his crumpled shirt with a small blood stain on it. He ran back towards the house, ten metres away.
"You're awake," a familiar voice said as soon as he slammed the door behind him. It was Isaac. He was sitting in Kelvin's previous place, fidgeting a glass of red wine.
Chris breathed. "What are you doing here?"
"Package pick up," an arrogant voice said. Paul appeared from a door that led somewhere Chris couldn't see.
Edward also walked into the room, dragging a tied up Jamal with Katrina following closely.
"Couldn't you have given it to her?" Paul said disgustingly. "Don't get your clothes soiled."
"He didn't give me much trouble," Edward shrugged. "A little proton virus goes a long way."
A door slammed shut and Kelvin swaggered in. "Let's talk about the terms of the agreement."
"What agreement?" Isaac shot him a sidelong glance.
Kelvin looked flustered. "I gave the parasite to you."
"Give the dog a bone," Paul chimed.
"What the living f#ck does that mean?"
Isaac adjusted his weight to face Kelvin. "We'll have caught him without your help. It was just a test of loyalty, no offence."
Kelvin clicked his tongue. He looked up at the hole in the ceiling. He was standing right under it. "And that? A show of loyalty, too?"
Isaac shrugged and sipped his wine.
"Then show me YOUR loyalty and give me the proton virus," Kelvin demanded.
"You don't get to make demands," Paul said. "You and your ratsh%t organization MIGHT get spared from our wrath."
"Me AND my ratsh%t organization stalled this coward," -he pointed at Jamal- "long enough for your ungrateful @sses to show up!" Kelvin seethed.
Chris knew Kelvin was just wasting his breath. These guys took what they liked, when they liked. Nobody crosses their path or might end up like Jamal. He thought of interrupting and trying to calm Kelvin, but what with the cold air around the place, he kept quiet.
"I say we kill you here and now," Paul spat at Kelvin, "you'll die. At least be thankful you're still alive."
Kelvin made to pull something out from beneath his shirt but Edward was already beside him, waving an arm at him.
Chris saw Kelvin's frame fly across the room. Swatted like a fly.
"You," Edward barked at Chris. "Wrap them up and bring them back to base."
Chris didn't move. For the first time that day, Katrina glanced at him. Her expression said 'just do it.'
Chris looked at the three elders. Bunch of b@stards, he thought.
He went across the room and grabbed Kelvin's unconscious body.

Re: The Torpedo by Nobody: 8:16pm On Dec 17, 2018
Jamal woke with a start. He was in pit darkness, couldn't see a thing. He knew something was wrong as he couldn't see in the dark. He tried moving his hands to his face, to rub his strained eye balls, but they were tied to his back and lying on his left side.
Movement near him. Struggling. Someone was in there with him.
How did he end up here? He asked himself. He couldn't remember.
"F#ck!" The person near him cursed. He struggled harder. "Let me out of here you idiots!" Kelvin yelled. "Let me out or I swear to God---"
The door bolt sounded and the door was opened. Jamal blinked at the sudden light that came from what looked like a hallway. He took advantage of the brief lights to survey the room: five by five, metal walls, reinforced steel door, metal floor. No windows or any opening.
"You were saying?" A voice said from the hallway as a figure appeared, blocking the lights and casting his shadow into the room.
"I need to use the bathroom," Kelvin said.
"I'll go and ask elder Edward," the man replied cooly.
"Wait!" Kelvin said, an edge of desperation in his voice. He talked quickly. "I'll pay you. Huge amounts. Just get me out of here."
"Can't do," was the reply.
"Please." "Come on." "For God sake, man." Kelvin kept blabbering until he fused. "Dammit! I'll kill you all. Just wait till I'm out. I'll slit your throat myself!"
"Good luck with that," the voice scoffed and the door was drawn shut once again.
"Sh#t!" Jamal heard Kelvin curse. Then the unpleasant stench of urine filled his nose.
"The hell?" Jamal said. He tried shimmering away from Kelvin.
"Jamal?" Kelvin said, sounding hopeful. "That you?"
"Apparently," Jamal replied.
"Get us out of here!"
"Don't you think I'll have done so if I had the chance?"
"What do you mean?"
"I can't use my powers. They are dampening it."
"For f#ck sake," Kelvin said.
Jamal heard a hissing sound coming from the four corners of the room. It was a constant one.
"What is that?"
Jamal wished he knew. If he did, he'll have readied himself for the breathing difficulties that ensued. He coughed. His lungs felt like they were filled with water. His blurred vision got worse and in a few minutes he couldn't even move.
"Isn't that proton virus?" Kelvin asked. But it sounded so far away Jamal could've easily mistaken it. He wanted to answer but could only manage a rasping cough. Breathing became a real challenge.
"Jamal...hear me?"
"Jamaaaal," Kelvin's voice sounded distorted to Jamal's hearing. Another rasping cough.
"...mal."
"Jam..." And he blacked out.
***
The smell of proton virus hit Kelvin's senses as soon as a hissing sound came from the corner of the room.
"Isn't that proton virus?" He asked Jamal, who was somewhere in the dark behind him.
No reply.
"Jamal?"
He heard Jamal cough. He called again but got no reply.
Just as suddenly as it started, Jamal stopped coughing.
"Can you hear me?"
Dead silence. Except the continuous hissing.
The door bolts clicked and two figures stood at the doorstep. The fluorescence from the corridor hit Kelvin's vision once again, making him see dark spots.
They stepped -almost in robotic fashion- into the room and shone lights towards Jamal's side.
They wordlessly grabbed his unconscious body and started taking it out. Kelvin saw that they wore white shirts tucked in white trousers.
"Hey," Kelvin called, "what about me?!"
"You'll come with me," a third figure appeared at the door. This one wore a suit not too dissimilar to the ones worn by those three b@stards.
Those, Kelvin remembered bitterly. He had made up his mind to take the war to them once he was out of here. It was more a matter of 'when' than 'if'.

Those, Kelvin remembered bitterly. He had made up his mind to take the war to them once he was out of here. It was more a matter of 'when' than 'if'.
The man half-dragged Kelvin out of the room and towards the end of the corridor then proceeded right. He opened a door and pushed Kelvin in and locked him inside.
Kelvin allowed his eyes to adjust to the sudden blinding lights in the room. It was a spacious room about 10 by 10 metres, but that's about it. No furniture or finishing, except a 15-inch LCD mounted on the wall overlooking the door. The walls were painted grey.
The TV suddenly came to life and the noise filled the room, showing a smartly dressed female reporter standing in front of the C.T Building. She reported:
"Keeping up with the strange series of events this week, owner of C.T Securities, Kelvin Davids, announced the handing over of his assets to an unknown party early this morning. The announcement was made through his personal secretary -who wishes to be anonymous- on the C.T media platform, @CTIntellicorp. Mr. Davids could not be reached for more information.
Meanwhile, in other news, leader of underground gang world and drug trafficker, Dragon, has been found dead in his warehouse in the Den. It was rumoured that his girlfriend was also kidnapped and her whereabouts remain unknown. The crime was allegedly carried out early afternoon today. The police are currently investigating the matter with links established to yesterday's attack of the governor's residence. The question residents are now asking is: 'are we safe?'
That's the news this evening, thanks for wat--"
The TV went off abruptly. And the door lock clicked. Kelvin turned around in time to see one of those arrogant elders walk in. He was the one named Isaac?
He dusted his suit and approached Kelvin, his cold sneer looked permanently etched on his pale skin.
"You have seen how far our reach is?" He gestured at the TV.
"So you made up my handover story," Kelvin said. "You threatened Liz, I guess?" He raised a finger. "Just one mistake, what if she goes to the authorities?"
Isaac smirked. "You tell me, Kelvin. Are there authorities in the grave?"
Kelvin felt his jaw drop. His heart skewed. Liz was his only hope. He was hoping she'll notice his absence in the office and sound his alarm. He stared emptily at the blank TV.
"I warned you," he heard Isaac say. "Join our cause and you'll be safe. Nobody had to die."
"I did everything you asked of me," Kelvin protested.
"You didn't."
"You are just a filthy piece of--"
He didn't finish the sentence. His throat was blocked. Windpipe crushed.
Isaac glanced arrogantly at Kelvin, whose eyes were bulging already. "What was that?" He mocked, before a stern glare settled on Kelvin. "You address me as Elder Isaac. I've tolerated your profanities for far too long."
Kelvin groaned and fell on his knees. It felt as if an invisible cord was wrapped around his neck. It seemed to grow tighter. He started feeling lightheaded.
"You overstep your limits again," Isaac said calmly, "and I'd pay Laura -is it?- a bloody visit."
He turned on his heels and slammed the door behind him, leaving Kelvin passed out on the cold floor.

Something clattered nearby. Jamal opened his eyes with a start. He looked around. The cold seeping into his back told him he was shirtless as the smell of antiseptic hit his nose. He was tied up on a stretcher. To his left was a small trolley carrying a tray but he couldn't see its contents from where he lay.
"You know the beauty of science?" Edward's voice echoed around the room. His footsteps approached from Jamal's back. "It's that discoveries are made every day." His sharp face appeared above Jamal, eyes studying him like a strange specie.
"Where am I?" Jamal said weakly.
"Somewhere," Edward echoed confidently, "in the middle of nowhere."
Jamal struggled against the belts around his arm and feet to no avail.
"Shhh," Edward said with a finger on his lips. "You have powers on par with that of Katrina. How?"
Jamal kept quiet. He heard Edward scoff as he walked away. "You'll tell me soon enough." And a door closed, along with the lights.

Abuja, the most beautiful city in the whole of Nigeria, was a city that buzzed with activities day and night. The never ending row of skyscrapers, 5-star restaurants and hotels. And people. People from all parts of the continent seem to arrive bang in the Federal Capital.
But, zoom in to the alleyways, the darker parts, and they're littered with lowlifes. Thugs, drug dealers, human traffickers, you name it. As productive as the working class is, so too is the criminal class. There seemed to be an unspoken agreement between the two categories as everyone looks like they're holding their breath, expecting to be the next corpse found in a dam or shallow grave.
Perched on the tallest -and most expensive- skyscraper in the country, was Davina. She's the guardian angel that protected the city. More like a guardian devil, since she operates from the shadows. She fancies the irony. Nobody could identify the 'lady in black cloak', not even the criminals she brought to justice. Their best definition of her was a "black blur, like the shadows have life". She liked it that way, who wouldn't?
The radio transmitter crackled in her ear. A voice answered: " This is emergency services, how may I help you?"
There was no answer, but the piercing scream of a lady.
Davina pulled out her phone, swiped the screen, and a few seconds, the exact location of the lady appeared. That was all that she needed. She jumped off the building.
*****
"Monsieur," the hotel attendant knocked lightly on room 45.
No answer came from the room.
"Room service," he added. Some customers were in the habit of ignoring attendants just for the laugh of it. Especially the foreigners. Clement hated them so much. He believed they ruined the glory of Paris and France as a whole by treating it like a tourist centre.
Movement in the room and the door opened. Clement swallowed.
Standing at the door was a young brunette, not more than 25. Her bathrobe was opened at the front, not concealing her n#dity.
"Come on in," she said, turning on her heels. He tried placing the accent to no avail.
Clement pushed the trolley and followed her into the spacious room. When he heard the door close behind him, he knew something was wrong.

The man who initially booked the room -Clement couldn't remember his name, Charles?- was standing half-n@ked at the door. His muscular body glistened under the light.
"What is this?" Clement managed to utter, he was aware of how frightened he looked from his reflection in the dressing mirror behind the girl. He felt her hand settle on his cheek.
"I saw how you looked at me," she whispered near his ear. Her hand slowly slid to his trouser.
"I-I'm sorry ma'am," Clement stumbled for words.
"Shhh," she said.
"We don't have time for this," the man called Charles said. He tapped Clement on the shoulder, "get out of here."
Clement turned on his heels and hurried out of the room.
**
Charles sat on the edge of the bed and lit a cigarette. He felt Diana's seductive stare on him.
"Come to bed," she said. "I'm bored."
Charles puffed out the smoke then turned to look at her.
"We leave at noon tomorrow," he said. "The call came in this morning."
Diana suddenly became serious. "Where are we headed?"
Charles stood up and walked over to the window, which showed a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower.
"Nigeria."
******
An inhuman scream came from somewhere beneath Jamal.
His eyes flew open.
The room was dark and colder than it was the previous night.
When was that? He thought to himself. Time had become so hard to keep his mind was getting frenzy.
The scream came again, this time a bit weaker.
Jamal struggled to gather some energy but his body kept getting weaker. He was sure the room was made from the same material as that of his holding cell.
The temperature went down again and he started to shiver.
****
Kelvin was restrained and bounded back to his prison. But not before he was told he'll watch his business crumble before his eyes and he'll be killed. From the look and conviction in his eyes, Kelvin was sure Isaac wasn't bluffing.
"You're Jamal's friend," he said to the guard behind him. "Chris, right?"
"F#cking move," Chris said, pushing Kelvin into the pit-dark cell again. "And this time keep your mouth shut." The door was closed and bolted.
***
Davina grabbed the last guy and smashed his head against the nearest wall just as the sirens got louder and a police car arrived.
The policeman dropped from his vehicle, pointing a gun at her.
"Stay where you are!" He ordered.
"You're welcome," she shouted back.
She turned her back to him, pulled her hood on, and dropped a smoke bomb.
Three useless shots rang from his pistol but they flew harmlessly past her.
She sprinted up a wall, latched on to the closest ledge, then pulled herself up. She repeated the same thing twice and she was on top of the roof, where two hooded figures stood waiting.
"You're late Davi," said a male voice. Even his cloak couldn't hide his muscular frame.
"I got my hands full," she replied.
"You've been wild since the death of the sensei," a second voice said, female.
Davina shrugged. "Shin's death doesn't mean we shouldn't continue the Peacemakers way."
"True," the female voice said. "Did you get the SOS alert?"
"Of course I did."
"Our brother is overwhelmed," the male said. "As far as I can tell, we're the last of our kind. The others will join is soon at a location. We can't afford losing more members."
Davina and the other lady went down on one knee.
"We're at your service, Sensei Charles," they said in unison.
A wave of dark, uncontrolled energy filled the clouds and the rooftop they stood as the man called Charles removed his hood. His eyes were white as paper as they glowed in the dark night. His voice echoed as he spoke.
"The Monarchs broke a long-term agreement by going public. Their actions had gone too far and too wild. We'll bring them to justice once and for all."
Thunder boomed and lightning struck and a light drizzle started to sprinkle across the city.
Two more hooded figures emerged from Davina's left. They walked up to Charles and bowed at his feet.
"We, your deputies, are at your service, Sensei," they said. Blue energy flared from one and red energy from the other.
"We should be at Sanka in two hours. Move!"
