New year holiday is a universal holiday. It’s neither Christian nor Muslim. MURIC should be open minded and grow above this nonsense confusion of his followers
I wonder.
Since when did New year day turn to Christian holiday. These people are just nothing but religious bigots bent on opposing Christians.

MURIC should start with all the mosques in every Federal Government ministries, department and agencies; including some State government public offices.

Are they supposed to be in public buildings?

January 01 is not a Christian holiday. It's based on the Gregorian Calendar. No Christian festivities holds that date.

If MURIC gets the holiday as requested, it's good for us all. One more day to chill at home. One more day for service based businesses to have bumper sales.

I am a muslim...i believe jan 1st isn't associated with christians...it is gregorian...even in dubai thats purely dominated by muslims they recognize jan 1st. They even did count down with fireworks yesterday to celebrate the new year. Muric are just always giving the christians the mouth to say so many bad things about muslims

In fact, I doubt the authenticity of the professorship of this Akintola...I also doubt his being Yoruba...Folks like Ishaq Akintola and Lateef Adegbite are bastards in Yorubaland....

His argument is just like saying that we shouldn't use the roman numerals again because they were introduced by the colonial authorities and we should rather use Arabic numerals...Is there any sense in that?

January 1st is a pagan holiday celebration. I wonder why most people celebrate it like it makes them go to heaven.
In ancient Roman religion and myth,
Janus ( /ˈdʒeɪnəs/ ; Latin : IANVS ( Iānus ),
pronounced [ˈjaː.nus] ) is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, [1] passages, and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the future and to the past. It is conventionally thought that the month of January is named for Janus ( Ianuarius ), [2] but according to ancient Roman farmers' almanacs Juno was the tutelary deity of the month.

In response to MURICS statement I actually counted the number of Christian and Muslim and secular holidays that Nigeria gives

1) New years day -Not a religious or christian day. Simply a say off on the first day of the new year. Is a holiday in every country including most Muslim countries

2) Good Friday- Christian holiday

3) Easter Monday - Christian holiday

4) Workers day - Secular holiday

5) Eid al Fitri- Muslim holiday

6) Id al Kabir- Muslim holiday

7) Independence day - Secular holiday

cool Sambisa memorial day - Secular holiday

9) Christmas day - Christian holiday

10) Boxing day - Secular holiday (while sometimes associated with Christians it's just a day of rest and has nothing to do with christianity)

So Christians have 3 and Muslims 2 holidays. Thus it's not as wildly unfair or unjust as MURIC claims. Maybe give Muslims one more holiday of their choice and then it is perfectly fair.

Re: MURIC Condemns January 1st As Public Holiday For Christians To Enjoy by koolaid87: 9:18pm On Jan 01, 2019
Nope, that's not being radical

I'm a Christian, and demanding for the FG to honor the first day of their calendar is not too much to ask

If you' were born by Muslim parent, you would most likely turned out a Muslim, And you wouldn't have seen anything wrong in his demand

Let's view things from other ppl's perspective and try to be sympathetic.

Peace
