Ignorance par excellence! There is indeed a Christian calendar which revolves around Jewish traditions and the life of Jesus Christ. It certainly has nothing to do with January 1st.
January to December is an accepted official calendar used worldwide including Arab countries. Other calendars are for religous or cultural and limited to particular groups of people.

Supported,.... But also the federal government should support the Southern/middle belt Christian states to create their own version of Sharia law which is Cannon law with their own version of hisbah police like the 19 Northern states.

*Note* I think, "this test run out cry" by Muric is the very first phase of subtle manifestations of what "The Next Level" portends for Nigeria.

Any honest Economist will tell you, that the evolution of Nigeria on transforming herself into modern middle income society industrialized, with world class infrastructure, with steady supply of electricity, steady supply of water with underground network of sewage system through government policies are no more attainable under the present Nigerian system. To dig ourselves out of the extreme poverty capital of the world...say in the next 20 years, will require a GDP growth of 7%(double of the population growth of 3.2% over the same period), with a steady uptake of electricity supply from its 4000 mega Watts to about 180,000 mega Watts of power a population of that size required in order to attain that level. This is not the level, the Buhari second term coming is envisioning for this country,... I can assure you that 100%. I know because I have being researching on Nigeria/Africa/Global politics for the past 40 years (when China was still poor and not as developed). With the rise of China, the fourth industrial revolution, block chain technologies and the recent China/US trade wars/Brexit, Nigeria/Africa have lost the control to transform themselves there off under these new realities. So Africa is trying to create a counter geo-eco-political reality through the Continental Free trade Area (without Nigeria.... still waiting to join), while Nigeria counter reality could be found in Buhari's second term "Next level" ...pointer to a fascist economic control, Islamic state economy or combination of the above and socialism, and instruments or vehicles like fighting corruption through EFCC, Bokoharam new strategy of killing Nigerian soldiers, Nnamdi Kanu/ Isreali tango and Muric's re-echoing of a political/religious/economic calendar and etc are useful in ushering in this new Nigerian reality..... Stay Awake Nigerians, because things have fallen apart while you are still in deep sleep.

MURIC is a human rights organization only visible through UNWANTED PRESS STATEMENTS.

Muslims are marginalized by public holidays because it has Christian connotation but are SUPER COMFORTABLE loosing thousands of their brethren to extra judicial military actions.

If that's what human rights activism mean to MURIC and the many supporting it on this thread, then it's unfortunate.

After reading all above comments i can only sigh! We are sitting on a time bomb in this country!!!

Truth is, this aggitations are bound to happen.
U cant avoid it!

We are in a country which claims it is united but in actual fact is constituted by individuals who are divided in every way u can think of! From religion to ethnic/ tribal.

How did we get here?

No nation will ever progress with this kind of trouble. It is not possible!

How can we progress when with so many important issues facing a nation we are still having these forms of babyish internal troubles. shocked

U see, i am a christian and i am unbiased. But truth is this; What the MURIC group are clamouring for is just recognition!
Simple!
And YES they are very childish and petty about it but can u blame them? To them they are fighting for some higher celestial powers. And last time i checked it is allowed in this joke of a nation!

And truth be told, if Nigeria as a country claims it is a nation of 2 religions then it wud have to play the game well. Or else we have these aggitations over and over again. From hijab wearing to schools to havin fridays as holidays! There wud be no end of it!

My conclusion is this : this country cant stand the next 20 years. We will divide soon. Mark my word. I see it coming.

Only a fool will still be praying for ONE NIGERIA!
The writings are already on the wall. And from all analysis we really need this division.

God bless us.

The day Igbos will pull out of this country, the remaining Christians in Nigeria will see hell. (The handwriting is obviously on the wall)

If not for Igbos that are 99 percent Christians who are checkmating the excesses of these people, Nigeria would have become fully Islamic republic.

So unfortunate that what this man said represents the opinion of average Muslim.
If you go to facebook you will see that majority of of them are supporting him. Forget their pretence offline...

Tomorrow some people will tell you that Yoruba Muslims are not radical, but here is the full definition of radicalism. He wants to stop what has existed for centuries....

You are not well schooled in religious statistics. South West is not dominated by any particular religion. We have 6 states in the South West and it is no news that EKITI AND ONDO STATES are largely Christians.. Over 80‰ of Ekiti are Christians. Lagos is a cosmopolitan state and no religion can say they own it. Ogun is a Christian state except for the Ijebus , go to Yewa , Ikenne, Ilaro, Abeokuta ... OYO is predominantly Muslims and Osun State is divided but Muslims are the still slightly the majority here. Oshogbo, Ede, Ikirun, Ikire , Iwo are major towns and are Muslims but don't forget the Christian strongholds. The Ifes, the Ijeshas , Obokun in general, the Ejigbos etc are Christian cities. If you are quite objective, you will see clearly that no religion can outrightly suffer the other ones in the south west.
Secondly we are better off than any other region because we have demonstrated to the world that we are the most sophisticated tribe and we have been cohabiting with ourselves over the years without issues.. In a family, u can see children practising different religions without any issue, you can see husband and wife with different faiths and belief.. We see humanity in ourselves unlike the bloodsuckers from the north..
On this note sir, kindly reflect on what fate will befall you if you pull out of our region . Thanks and Happy new year.

This Muric guy doesn't sound like jan 1st is the only problem.. Na from play dance they start. Muslim are always jealous of Christians why can't you guys mind your business? Live and let live . I'll be glad if FG approves Aug 31 as public holiday it'll enable me rest. But the intent of Muric is not just that. Very soon they'll urge all Nigerians to wear Hijab by force. Instead of Muric to preach to boko haram and handle the Shiites issue. They're talking about this trash it really shows this organization is sick... All these religious organizations are Fraud Muric and Can but Muric is more dangerous they can lead us into religious War if care is not taken.

This is something I dislike about Yoruba Christians. Whenever there's any mention of Muslims being the majority in Yorubaland, they get furious and begin listing cities just to console themselves and indirectly claim majority. Now lemme restate the facts clearly for you here, the only states with majority Christians are Ondo and Ekiti States and Muslims make up a large minority here. Muslims are majority in Kwara, Lagos, Oyo, Osun and it's a tie in Ogun. So stop these rhetorics of seeing ourselves as humanity, the Pentecostal churches have divided the Yorubas, and there's an Islamic awakening in Yorubaland. We cannot be deceived again, you claim togetherness but at the back stab is when we request for our rights.
