This thread once existed without any form of ad or sales offer.
You can check through.

On pushing it "too far", I'm a seller too. That's the best way to handle ads issue once and for all except of course if we are willing to come back discussing same issue again here in few months time.

If you ask me, ads can't be moderated on this thread with the number of sellers now.

Check the tweaking thread and you'll be wowed at the traffic there while maintaining the purpose of the thread.

With a single click from the shared link here, potential buyers will land to the sales thread.

I sincerely believe it can, if we reduce it to one per day plus we can still refer people to the sales thread/mention sellers.

I think i go with saint2ace's submission, a total ban will not be good as we have guests who are guided by the ads.

Moderation is the key, we have added 3 pages today and Macbeyand has dropped ad twice while Noobody has done once. What stops them from dropping ads again if there is no "check and balance"?
If tweaking enthusiasts who are guests too can be referred to the tweaking thread, I don't think that should be a problem with ads if we are serious about the issue.

Nothing stops them(macbeyland & Noobody) from dropping further ads on subsequent pages today if there are no other sellers to drop ad na

As a matter of fact, imagine with a 2 ad per day "moderation", macbeyland has exhausted his slots for d day. Who happens if we add about 10 pages more for the day? His ads would be on far behind pages. Still today.

What happens on a day we barely complete a page.
Other sellers are to hold. Funny enough, the subsequent page might be taken by the previous seller as well.

But like I told you yesterday, on ads, I stand with the consensus, so far it'll bind absolutely.

I agree with you to a level, but the fact still remains that we are all adults here and so are capable of sticking to rules and regulations, except am mistaken.

So once an agreement is made on the modus operandi then it becomes binding and everyone and anyone who feels inclined to do business on the thread has to abide.

It's that simple.

But how do we measure the frequency of ads by seller(s)? We've discussed about this ads issue sometimes ago and i believe this suggestion by protein0 is Ok, coming from a seller.

Sellers can post the link(s) to their ads with addendum rather than a full advert, and the last time i checked, people do recommend sellers here almost on all pages. If there can be less ads or promo posts on Cartalk threads, why not this thread too!

I weak. We don't want Sth but we want it small when "posters" of the said thing aren't "small". It means we don't know what we want grin cheesy

We'll keep discussing it till we are ready for an holistic approach to it.

The tweaking issue is a very nice example.

Let ads be treated like tweaking on this thread. Finish!

I wouldn't mind bro. The most important thing now is for us to have a consensus so it will be binding. If we continue to deliberate without reaching an agreement, a seller can post with the argument that no decision has yet been reached. If the agreement is one ad per day, I'm pretty OK with that.

Would it be bad if we have an ad free page?

The tweaking enthusiastics have Xiaomi phones already, was referring to guests who dont have Xiaomi phones and are pondering if to buy or not.

If no ad is the way to go, then it's very fine.

On ads,
I will suggest a total ban of ads here.
I think ads/pricelists should be treated the way tweaking was treated here.
There was a thread created already by Dam5reey, let's all sellers make use of the thread for their ads and sales posts.

https://www.nairaland.com/3880817/xiaomi-thread-store

The thread is in a section where ads are allowed. Any newbie can be referred there to meet sellers. Strictly for Xiaomi related sales and offers.

Link to the thread can be shared here just like the way link to the tweaking thread is being shared

That sales thread can have all posts in a page as pricelists, ads, sales offer and all.
Well just implore the op, dem5reey, to help us modify the thread topic to XIAOMI THREAD STORE/MARKET PLACE or something similar

If this suggestion is unanimously accepted, I hope posts like "I'm on my way to the post office, if you need anything, buzz me now..., call/WhatsApp ***, Honda crosstour will be available next week...,promo loading... , 1 day used mix 3 for sale, " will be frowned at on this thread. As in, 100% No ad, no pricelists, no offers, no sales update

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by 2kurupt(m): 12:08pm On Jan 02, 2019
The total ban on ads will be a bit extreme at the moment even if it's the right thing to do. For some weird reason this seem to be the only thread allowed to have ads despite its huge traffic.

Personally I'll implore every seller to start gradually migrating their full detail ad posts to the Xiaomi Store thread as referenced by Protein0, while they insert abridged versions on a one-ad-per-day in this this thread.

By so doing it'll serve as a palliative measure & cushion the affects of having no ads here when the ads eventually get stopped fully at an agreed timeline.

1. It'll not be bad if we have an ad free page but it'll be better if the pages are ad free.

2. The primary purpose of the thread is to provide first hand users' info which is what a guest pondering if to buy or not needs to make an informed decision. Not ads.
Ads are needed after the decision to buy has been made and link to the thread where sellers are will answer ds. Finish!

I'm a seller too and infact, my suggestion is kinda harsh on me, but that's the answer to the incessant ad wails on this thread.

Remember the number of sellers when 1 ad per page was proposed. Then, there were pages without ads sef when none of the then sellers were online till d pages started and ended.

Attempts to set ad frequency/Qty will breed another challenge, given the number of sellers now

My suggestions

Sellers should create a whatsapp group and take turn to post adds, d whatsapp group will be for u guys to update each oda and take turns to drop add/ reminder on who's turn it is to drop an add, this will eliminate d issue of 2 - 3 adds being dropped accidentally.

Thanks
