True talk, right now NA should begin preparing for an increase in ISWAP use of VBIEDs.

Infact I wanted asking @CaptainStephen & allexpensive if the insurgents still use VBIEDs pre-assault

Those bad things were crazy in 2016. I just imagine the Armed Forces releasing a ISR video of any of these battles. It could go a long way

Let them stick to Mi24/35s. Egypt is experiencing issues with the Alligator helicopter in hot climatic conditions and searching for alternatives.

Meanwhile, here's the typically maladaptive leader in Buhari remaining rigid on changing the security hierarchy.
President Buhari has given reasons why he has not changed the service chiefs.
Buhari in an interview on Arise TV Monday night said that “the head has to be very careful on removal of the service chiefs because you don’t know the ambition of the ones coming up.”

During the live interview, he was heard saying that
“He didn’t know them on a personal basis, I followed records and thought I picked the best then, of course, their performance may be disappointing but I accept responsibility for not changing them. My reason is based on my own experience.”

On a serious note, we should get some Attack Helicopters with coaxial rotors, like KA-52.
Why do we need an attack heli with coaxial rotors ?

By the way Egypt got KA-52 almost 2 years ago now and they are still finding it difficult to gain operational status.

We need an attack helo with coaxial rotors because of the vulnerability of the tail rotor to AA gun. In the recent photoset released by ISWAP, you could actually see them aiming up their AA gun fire, presumably, against NAF's helicopter. And that is not their first time of shooting at NAF platforms with AA guns.

I had no idea though that KA-52 is giving the Egyptian some challenges.

Maybe, we should just hope that the Super Tucano gets delivered before the scheduled delivery date just like it happened in Afghanistan. That would solve a lot of problems.

They still do. In fact, they claim that they killed several Nigerian soldiers in the Damasak attack using VBIEDs. I suspect they lied though.

The detained Maiduguri Bureau Chief of Daily Trust, Uthman Abubakar, has been released by the military authorities who detained him since Sunday afternoon.

The Editor-in-Chief of Daily Trust, Mannir Dan-Ali, announced the release shortly after speaking to the editor who was brought back to the Maiduguri office by an unnamed Major who handed him over to a Security officer at the office.

Uthman who maintains that he was courteously treated, however, said his mobile phones and laptop are still with the military. They told him that they need time to finish the forensic checks they are carrying out on the equipment.

That's true the Egyptian airforce are still struggling with it the KA-52, in fact instead ordering more of KA-52 they went for more of AH-64 Apache early Nov last year.

I think the problem is not with the attack helicopter itself , it's the limited technical know-how of the EA. They still have to train and master these hardware it's new in there inventory. Even the western/European hardware comes with there problems and little setbacks. These same KA-52 is giving ISIS a bloody nose and tough time in syria, the question is how come the Egyptians are finding it difficult to operate huh

It's my own opinion, I might be wrong sad

The Mi-28, Mi-35m and Ka-52 are the most capable platforms in the Russian military for targeting and conducting self-generated precision attacks, whether ATGMs, cannon or rockets. Both also use the 80mm rockets as their main weapons, but unlike so many other Russian aircraft, they have modern targeting systems to find and destroy targets with greater accuracy than any Russian platform before them. Utilizing the OPS-28 Tor targeting turret with TV and FLIR capability (future airframes will carry the mast mounted NO25 radar similar to the American AH-64 Apache), the Mi-28 first saw combat outside Palmyra and have been seen operating in pairs.

The Ka-52, with its counter-rotating coaxial rotor blades, is the only attack helicopter to have ejection seats, which fire after the rotor blades have been detached by explosive charges installed in the blade fastenings. For targeting the Ka-52 carries a nose mounted FH01 Myech-1U radar along with the GOES-451.2 TV/FLIR system combined with laser targeting and designation. These advanced systems of the Ka-52 were recently used to help Syrian forces liberate Palmyra, which the Syrian government had to abandon in December 2016 to ISIS. Working with Russian Air Force Su-25 Frogfoots, the KA-52s provided targeting for the ground attack aircraft, allowing for round the clock attacks on ISIS positions.

Left for me I would prefer the T129 ATAK grin

NAF LAYS TO REST CREW MEMBERS OF MI-35M HELICOPTER CRASH

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has laid to rest the bodies of the 5 fallen heroes who died in the Mi-35M helicopter that crashed in Damasak, Borno State on 2 January 2019 while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion. The deceased personnel, who were buried today, 8 January 2019, with full military honours at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja, are; late Flight Lieutenants Pereowei Jacob (Captain) and Kaltho Paul Kilyofas (Co-pilot), Sergeant Auwal Ibrahim (Flight Technician), Lance Corporal Adamu Nura (Gunner) and Aircraftman Meshack Ishmael (Gunner).

Speaking during the burial ceremony, which had in attendance the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the 5 gallant heroes lost their lives in the pursuit of the peace which we often take for granted. He saluted their courage stating that their deaths must spur the NAF to rededicate itself to even greater service to the Nation while strengthening our collective resolve to expose and fight all agents of destabilization and extremism in the society. Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that all members of the Service must throw everything they have into the fight against terrorism to ensure that our departed colleagues did not die in vain. “We must do everything possible to bring the ongoing insurgency in the North East to an end that is favourable to our nation”, he said.

The CAS restated the commitment and unalloyed loyalty of the NAF to the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his efforts at tackling the security challenges facing the Nation. Air Marshal Abubakar ended his remarks by praying for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes, who, he re-emphasized, had paid the supreme price in pursuit of the peace and security of their fatherland. He said they would be fondly remembered for their invaluable service to the Nation and humanity. He therefore encouraged their families to take solace in the knowledge that the Nation grieves with them, while praying that time would ease their present pains.

The Chief of Administration Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, while reading the citation of the 5 deceased personnel, noted that both pilots were members of 58 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy. According to him, they were exceptional and seasoned pilots who had great passion for their jobs and carried out assigned tasks diligently. He remarked that Sergeant Ibrahim Auwal was a dedicated Flight Technician while Lance Corporal Nura Adamu and Aircraftman Meshach Ishmael were committed Regiment personnel, who had participated in several air combat missions against Terrorists’ locations within the Northeast Theatre of Operation. Paying tribute to the fallen heroes, the Commander 115 Special Operations Group (115 SOG), Air Commodore Elijah Ebiowe, extolled their sterling qualities noting that their patriotism, bravery, hard work and dedication to duty were glowing testaments that exemplify one of the NAF’s Core Values of “Service before Self”. While praying for the peaceful repose of their souls, Air Commodore Ebiowe remarked that “they gave their today for our tomorrow”. He said the Service and, indeed, the entire nation owed them an unending debt of gratitude.

Other dignitaries present at the burial ceremony included the representatives of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Chiefs, along with other serving and retired senior military officers. Also present were the National President Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar, along with other members of NAFOWA as well as friends and families of the deceased personnel. Other highlights of the event included the presentation of National Colours to the deceaseds’ Next-of-Kins by the CAS, laying of wreaths by dignitaries and the representatives of the families of the late personnel as well as the customary 21 gun salute and playing of the last post. Faith services had earlier been conducted by Group Captain (Reverend) Dogo Gani, Director Chaplaincy (Protestant) Headquarters NAF, and Group Captain Luqman Lawal, the Director Islamic Affairs Headquarters NAF, before the caskets were lowered into the ground.
