Study mathematics and learn after university, computer programming or any software application in vogue.

Continue studying mathematics, because writing jamb again does not guarantee admission into university to study computer science.
what if you are given mathematics again, please hold on to mathematics.

I love programming and I love Mathematics. I choose Mathematics myself when I applied for jamb since 2017. Currently in 200lvl. My eldest brother called my dad and ask him what I was studying, so he told him it's "Mathematics". After their discussion, I was told to start planning to write another jamb and choose computer science. I don't know how to convince them. pls help, should I continue with Mathematics or sit for another jamb.

pls, I need your candid advice.

Study Mathematics.

Studying computer science in Nigerian higher institutions could prove to be a waste of time.

Have a strong solid base in mathematics. You can pick up programming by yourself elsewhere.

Don't waste time and resources in Nigerian universities. The lecturers struggle to understand what they teach coupled with the fact that universities are not well equipped to teach this.

Can't say for all universities though.

My advice for you is to finish your mathematics as first degree then you can have your second degree in computer science
Re: Should I Continue With Mathematics Or Write JAMB To Study Computer Science? by RTSC: 5:40pm On Jan 10, 2019
Mathematics is the bedrock of computer science.

If you are a gifted mathematician, computer science will not be a problem.

Learn and finish your maths degree, be extremely good at it, then go for certifications in computer science fields.

if you truly love Mathematics, go ahead and continue with maths. i bet you, there are more job opportunities studying maths than computer sciences. don't forget maths is a single honour course and you can be employed in diverse fields. as a matter of fact, a degree in CS can only get you a job in IT related profession, but maths gets you a million-and-one other specializations.

don't be dull my guy!! chase your dream. . . .

Finish your Mathematics and go for Masters in Computer Science.
Most companies looking for programmer would accept Bsc Mathematics since it's a science course.
Master your programming and your first job will be waiting for you.

Another option is to cross to 200L from Mathematics to Computer Science instead of wasting 2 years.

This is the best advise here.

You don't have to rewrite Jamb or stay in Mathematics.

Just get your school transfer form and transfer to computer science department and if you choose to stay in Mathematics, with your passion for CS you can do an M.Sc in Computer Science after your B.Sc.

Bro, continue studying your math but endeavor to get certified in computer related courses eg digital marketing, front or back end programming and as a mathematician, data analysis or Analytics will be good cos computer is the future but really if you are outstanding in any field you can surely be successful.

I studied Mathematics Education. I love computers as well. I work in the ICT Unit in a Federal Agency with my mathematics. Initially, I was in Legal as an administrative staff but when they saw what I can do with keyboards that was how I was moved. My advice is to do what you love and you will succeed in flying colors.

Continue with mathematics and learn programming on your own. Most programming jobs will require a degree in computer science, engineering or mathematics.

Continue with maths. You're the one studying the course. It's your life at stake here.

Highest they'll lose is their money they are using to sponsor you through school. You're the one who is going to lose your time, money can be gotten back. Wasted time studying something you'd rather not.
Never gotten back.

if maths is what you want, stick to it.

I don't know a peaceful way to convince your parents.
Or you can try some of the advice given to you here to help convince them to allow you stick with maths.

But why not a transfer from maths 200 or 300 to computer science? 100 or 200 if they insist (although I day if they insist. You insist harder wink )
Isn't retaking jamb too drastic?

Continue with maths, it is related to computer science with several shared courses at this stage. You can easily switch from Mathematics to computer science at 300 level

Maths is good biko. Most people that graduated with a computer science degree don't even know how to program.
Most Comp. Scientist dont program at all google it.
PSUEDOCODE is the language they use then programmers implement that with any lang of their choice.

Learn Computer science on your own. Continue with mathematics.

If it's about job,

Most software development job basically care how good you are as a developer, not your course of study. Even if course matters, there are no better courses than CS, mathematics, engineering and related fields.

But note: Computer Science is NOT programming. They are like comparing car and tree.

All the best.

1. You're not going to become a programmer by studying Computer science. Check my many posts on this regard.

2. Computer science is 80% mathematics.

3. Ignore people mentioning algorithms and data structure because you're already learning them in mathematics without realizing it.

JOB, JOB JOB!!!

For many companies, a CS degree is not enough to get you a job. Your ability to use languages like Java, C# will be the main requirement for getting the job. Unless you have connect, few companies are willing to train new staff on programming.

Your ability to program in any of the ffg: Swift, Objective C, Java will be required to get employed by companies who build or maintain mobile apps.

Mastering two or more of the ffg: HTML, CSS, Javascript, php, Asp.net, React, bootstrap, laravel... will be required to work in a eCommerce like Jiji, and Jumia, and web development companies.

Mastery of any of the ffg: MySQL, MsSql, Oracle, Windows Server, Ubuntu server will get you a job as a database / sever administrator.

Mastering Python can get you a job in all the above and also as a data analyst.

In fact, master just Photoshop and you can become self-employed, work with eCommerce, app / web developers...

Again, a CS degree will get you an interview. But mastering just two or three of the above will get you the job.

You have two more years to make yourself a hot cake as a programmer. If you're willing, patient and ready to spend money on internet data to learn, PM me.
