Learning python will expose you to similar Concepts like object oriented programming which most Programming languages use.. Python is better to start with.. Study mathematics but don't stop at Bachelors degree. Once you are done with your B.sc, start working towards your masters in Canada or USA, don't go to the U.K. Apply for scholarships, with a good GPA, you will get a school that will even pay for you for being a teachers PA.

Our CS Curiculum is 80% Maths am still wondering whether am studying Maths as a course or Computer science.
But guess what Maths is almost the Base of Computer science. You will see more of algorithms which you can blueprint with pseudocodes then implement with the programming of your choice than programming itself.
So dont think lecturers will teach you how to code, you should do that on your own.
But Computer science is so cool that you can apply it to any field of study.
So go ahead with your Maths and learn coding with your spare time or holidays. Who knows you might be our own Linus <linux>!
A math student who knows programming tends to be better than a typical Csc student in some areas like algorithm implementation and design. But not at all times.

Mathematicians are the best programmers. At a time mths make me tire of computer science

Why do you have to re-write jamb tho, does your school not have the option of changing department, even if you lose a year or two...that's much better than writing jamb again. Peace

I would have agreed with you 10years ago when computing shared close boundaries with mathematics! Today, as much as mathematics is the basics of everything, there is a very clear dichotomy... I wish it was all about programming...

Meet your HOD and discuss a change of department! That's only possible at the early hours of 200lvl... Mathematics and Computer Science have become widely apart. CSC is not all about programming... although there's no escaping it!

My brother, don't even think of writing jamb again. Time is going. Continue to study mathematics and then take programming classes by the side and get certified. You can still become a computer scientist from certifications..

Mathematics is equally as good. In a Nigerian Federal or state university, you're better off studying Mathematics than Computer Science.
Nigerian Universities can keep up with the trend of mathematics but not with ever evolving CS.
So my Brother, continue with the mathematics and at the same time, start learning how to code.

Best advice!

Mathematics is basis for CS, some University here hold classes with CS/Math Student in the first year. Codding is about dedication. It's fraustrating sometimes but u will later enjoy it. And the Pay is Wow in any country especially if you by any chance move to US or CAN is one of the highest paid job working with less hour. Just take you time to code probably 2hours a day you will catch up without affecting your academics.

Tell your elder brother to go write another JAMB to become a dictator! Who does that?
Try get good grades, you stand a better chance with mathematics in terms of opportunities. You can learn coding and other computing stuff after you graduate......stand your ground brother! Say no to you dictator undergraduate "eldest" brother.

I was also in your position 3 yrs ago...u jst have to know with mathematics you can divert if not every course in science for masters,i had bsc mathematics and i also love programming so i took some software development course ,now i can boast that i have a solid background in mathematics and also satisfying my.love for programming..
So dont worry you are on the right path..mathematics and programming is a baddass combination since you can do your masters in computer science..

Go to college of education & study computer-mathematics.

No time to waste,,,, Nigeria education is no longer concern I of discipline,,, it's just to obtain a certificate go and study your math or statistics and you will never regret,,,,,all the best.

First thing you need to know is what is a software....and what does a software engineer do.

Bro, computer science is a branch of mathematics.... They are similar in terms of curriculum, no need to rewrite jamb.. Just keep studying your maths and do other computer science course professionally and be certified for it.

Will you consider going to Futminna to start afresh? When you're done you'll be issued a B.Tech in Maths and computer Science(unless they've restructured the department, please make enquires) as a single course and then practice writing programs during your vacations. That way is a win win.

I would say both courses are similar because they involve writing little code at higher levels.
I studied Physics but I enjoy coding. You switching from Maths to Computer Science is like me switching from Physics to Maths which is not really necessary since both are studies from a theoretical perspective. Yeah..Computer Science is atleast 80% maths and 20% programming.
Computer Science Majors are not necessarilly good programmers...Consistent practice is Key in program coding. It would have been better if you switched to Software Engineering if you're interested in changing but it's a rare and competitive course accredited in few federal universities. As Physics is to Engineering so is Computer Science to Software Engineering...

My advise is don't rewrite jamb because I believe there is an option for you to do change of course ( you can change to Cs/math or CS)
On a more serious note I will advise you to continue maths and join IT groups (google team, 21st century club, ...) and learn programming during semester break. You should also try and get some certifications eg CCNA. Mathematics make you a better programmer , I knew some CS graduates that wish they combined maths. I myself graduated from mathematics also member of google team. The current google educator sub sahara Africa is from my team. Decision now is yours.
