2023: "You Are Selfish" - Ohaneze Ndigbo Blasts Osinbajo, Tinubu by BeeBeeOoh(m): 5:50am On Jan 12, 2019
Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday described as selfish scheming by some notable Yoruba leaders for the South-West presidency. Some Yoruba leaders, including Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; former Lagos State Governors, Senator Ahmed Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola, had urged the people of the South- West to vote massively for President Muhammadu Buhari in this year’s general election to enable the zone grab power in 2023. But Ohanaeze, which said it was not interested in 2023 Igbo presidency but on restructuring of the country, described those pushing for the South-West 2023 presidency as over ambitious and selfish. According to the group, restructuring will tackle the scheming of the South-West to produce the 2023 presidency, Speaking to Saturday Telegraph in Abakaliki, the National Publicity of the group, Prince Uche Achi- Okpagha, expressed regret that while the 2019 elections were still to be conducted, some selfish politicians were already scheming to become president in 2023. He said: “The most important thing like we will always say is that Nigeria needs to be restructured. If you restructure Nigeria, scheming and maneuvering to become the president will subside appreciably. When you restructure, you downsise the enormous powers that are vested in the Federal Government, when you do it, the interest will be less. “When you restructure this country, these political maneuvering and so much thuggery, all of them will reduce. Can you see how selfish politicians can be? We have not had 2019 general elections and somebody is already scheming to become the President in 2023. “Our interest is not even in 2023 presidency, our interest is on restructuring. If they restructure Nigeria, they can rule forever but let them restructure Nigeria so that the people will feel the impact of government.

We must be united – Imo Senator

On his part, the senator representing Imo North at the Senate, Benjamin Uwajumogu, said Buhari was committed to handing over power to the Igbo upon completion of his second term in office, urging the people of the zone to massively support the president’s re-election bid. Uwajumogu said it would take the Igbo at least eight years to think of producing the country’s president should former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar win. He said: “President Muhammadu Buhari will hand-over power to Ndigbo in 2023. I am assuring you of that. Ignore the shenanigans and just focus on returning the president a second time. The president is honest and he is committed to it. There is nothing else to do or add to this assurance except casting your vote for the APC come February. “It will take Ndigbo at least eight years if the PDP presidential candidate wins. The Igbo should be proud of President Buhari, he is the kind of president this country needs now.” Uwajumogu also claimed that the president had been fair and just to the people of the southeast geopolitical zone in the distribution of projects and dividends of democracy.

Igbo’s presidency dream, a charade-Coalition

The Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), a body of Igbo Intelligentsia, clergy, elders, patriots, women and gouth in its reaction, advised all well-meaning Igbos to regard the much talked about promise of Igbos producing a Nigerian President in 2023 as mere election gimmicks. The president general of ADF, Prof. Uzodinma Nwala, told Saturday Telegraph that the Igbos of today were politically vulnerable and must think of gaining internal strength and controlling its political structure on the home phase more than issue of presidency which he said is being talked about in insulting manner. He said: “Let me say this frankly, given the present alignment of forces or political configuration of Nigeria, nobody is going to give the Igbos presidency either now or 2023. Nobody is going to do that and that’s the pure truth.”

CLO chides S’West leaders

Also reacting, the Chairman of Aba Unit of the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Prof. Charles Chinekezi, said Osinbajo demonstrated his high level of political insensitivity in his comment about 2023 presidency going to the South West. Chinekezi said the Igbo presidency of 2023 is an issue of the political right of Ndi-Igbo as part of the strong tripods on which Nigeria stands and not centred on the Re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari. He said: “Prof. Osinbajo’s comment is just a narrow sense of judgement that is based on tribal sentiments. For a professor of criminal law and justice who ought to understand the political landscape of Nigeria, the multiplicity of ethnic groups, tribes and races with high sense of the dominant tripod of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba grouping to go ahead and make such comment is quite unfortunate. “For him to have discountenance the Igbos who have been skimmed out of the political settings of Nigeria since after the civil war is unbelievable. As far as we are concerned, the most logical stand of anybody who claims to love Nigeria and wants its progress and peace should be for Igbo presidency in 2023. “Even the North and most Yorubas have talked about it. Even former president Obasanjo said not long ago. I’m sure Osinbajo knows the truth and he is far smarter than the proposal he’s putting forward for his people for 2023. He knows that his proposal cannot even fly anywhere in Nigeria even in Yoruba land. “He should be discountenanced as Ndi-Igbo forge ahead to get their mandate. We all can build a better Nigeria. The issue of Igbo presidency is the issue of right of the South East and anybody who wants to thwart or discountenance it is only smoking a pipe dream and of course that person wants to blow up this country into pieces. “So, let’s be specific, it’s not in the hands of President Muhammadu Buhari or Vice President Osinbajo or any other person. It’s in the hands of generality of Nigerians, right thinking Nigerians who understands how a sovereign nation is built.” Chief Jerry Obasi, the leader of the APGA breakaway faction, ‘Authentic APGA’, while reacting, said that there are strong indications that the APC has no plans to allow the Igbo fly its presidential flag in 2023. Obasi further urged President Buhari to clear the air on the call by Osinbajo and Fashola, for the South- West zone to vote for him in 2019 in return for power shift to the zone in 2023.”

Igbos’re lukewarm- Amaechi

Similarly, First Republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazurike Amaechi, has lamented that the lgbos are showing indifference over the prospects of producing the next President in 2023. Amaechi who spoke to our correspondent in Awka yesterday said that power is not given on a platter of gold, adding that the South West has shown stronger interest in the position. He said: “Power is not given on a platter of gold and the idea that Igbos will produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023 is not sacrosanct because there is no section in Nigerian construction that talked about rotation of power “The Yorubas are serious about this and they are working hard to get it and I expect our people in Igbo land to work hard and show seriousness. “Our politicians in the South-East should wake up and show that we are interested but the Yoruba are more serious than us. “If tomorrow the position goes to the South West we do not have any body to blame because they deserve it going by the way they are fighting the agenda.”

Why are Ohaneze concerned with what Osinbajo or Tinubu are doing in their Amala and ewedu janjawee.d APC party?

Why not face their party PDP or APGA that they have laboured for, while Tinubu is facing his own party that he has laboured for?

Even in PDP, the Yoruba politicians will certainly contest for the 2023 presidential ticket there, just as Ekwueme contested against the victorious Obasanjo in 1998 and 2002 primaries of the PDP when the ticket was last zoned to the entire South.

Don Etiebet, Alabo Graham Douglas, and a host of other Southerners contested the 1998 PDP primaries that Obasanjo won without any entitlements.

The entire North of PDP have had their turn in 2018, with Atiku from NorthEast defeating Tambuwal of NorthWest and Saraki of NorthCentral.

As per PDP rule, the 2023 presidential ticket will be zoned to the entire South, and the SouthWest and SouthSouth will compete for it, since the SouthEast have chickened out of it and have rather shown interest in being deputy to a Northern candidate in continuation of the legacy of mental slavery and inferiority that their ancestors passed on to them.

As for APC, it will do whatever is good for APC without any regard for Ohaneze or PDP that are irrelevant to the party.

This man below knows the truth.

The Igbo elder has advised his tribesmen to work hard like the Yorubas are already doing.

The time they are spending lamenting and attacking Tinubu, Fashola, Osinbajo and Yorubas generally, they could have spent it traversing the country and engaging other tribes and their trado-political leaders.

Instead the Igboman thinks that such lobbying is beneath him who by delusion is the most qualified to lead Nigeria. While still making out time to mock those politicians from other regions who are already doing the lobbying.

The Igbo man calls those politicians as slaves, yet his answer to the political affront posed by his adversaries is to be a deputy to a Northerner.

When a Northerner, even an Almajiri, promises an Igbo man the deputy position beneath a Northern principal, the Igbo man feels loved and overjoyed like an orphan who never experienced the warm embrace of a loving parent.

To him, it is like a fantasy come true, like Pinocchio searching and finding the Blue fairy so he could become a real boy.

See below what an Igbo elder did when he learnt that a Fulani gworo-chewing Muslim Atiku will chose an Igbo boy to be his deputy. He totally lost his composure and hugged Atiku like the Messiah his dying generation had been waiting to see.

He even said it was his dying wish that his tribe must continue to serve under their Muslim Fulani Northern masters, rather than aspire to the prime position themselves.

What a shame!

THE WISE ONES SHOULD READ AND DIGEST THIS PIECE.
The TRUTH is bitter, but it most be told.............

What we lack in the East is UNITY.
That is the only thing killing our tribe.
In UNITY we stand.
That saying is GOLDEN!
I have deliberately kept mum on this as I had earlier resolved to speak less on Igbos as regards the 2019 Elections and 2023 Presidency having said quite a bit.

However seeing as some of my brethren have swallowed the cheap bait, I will chip this in just to keep the reality before us, at least for posterity sake. Truth is bitter but it's still the best medicine.

My people say; 'He who does not remember where the rain started beating him, will not remember where it stopped'.

REWIND TO 2014.
A new National Party was being conceived. Political Parties, political players and Regions were being wooed to the new alliance.

'We' Igbos (read South East) vehemently refused to touch it even with a long pole. We packaged, sold to ourselves and bought the baseless propaganda that it was an Islamic alliance that would birth an "Islamic" and "Hausa" Party. Simply because those our brethren heavily invested in the PDP at the time were afraid of losing their vested selfish interests.
Till today I'm still trying to fathom the basis for that wicked and twisted deceit especially as many of those Igbo elites who sold that dummy have since ported to the same APC.

We failed to even identify with that new Alliance. Hence the Party, APC was birthed without any remarkable input from us or presence. The few amongst us who aligned were called all kinds of names and abused to high heavens by us even when they were proven right afterall.

Thus the few Igbos who were part of it were at best fringe players as they didn't have the required clout to make serious demands and do the necessary political wheeling and dealing required in Politics to strike the hard bargains since politics is all about interests and numbers. They were even suspect, so much so that it was only their personal political sagacity that gave them whatever they got.

That Party went on to win the Presidential Election which in truth, most of us never believed it could or would, because of our half baked permutations and poor understanding of Nigerian politics. But it did.

Curiously we turned up at the fore front of telling this same Party how it should share it's 'spoils of war'. We became hypocritical moral champions with an over bloated sense of entitlement. Who does that, in all political reality and practicality? But we did, even while vehemently and vociferously still refusing to shift our position, style and rhethoric.

We dug in. Supported every bad thing and person against the Party, the elected President and the Administration while denying any and every good done to and for our Region.

Fast forward to where we are today. Almost four years after the 2015 misadventure, we have stayed put at 2015, refusing to move forward, refusing to shift grounds, refusing to play pragmatic politics, telling ourselves the same lies we cooked and bought in 2015 and some more.

Just one month to another election, we have started again saying "APC cannot give Presidency to Igbos in 2023". "Buhari cannot hand over to an Igbo man because Buhari hates Igbos". "APC is deceiving you", bla bla bla.

Of course. We will believe Saraki, who has only but a fanthom dream of becoming President and whose only known record is selfishness but we can't believe Buhari who's already President and who has a record of voluntarily picking two great Igbo sons as running mates in the past? Chukwu aju.

It is interesting and vital to note here that the PDP which many of us still proudly support and adore was in power for 16 solid years and in those years there were 4 Presidential Inaugurations and on none of those was an Igbo man found worthy by the PDP of even Vice Presidency and we are still bold to say it is the APC that has not even finished one tenure that doesn't want to give power to Igbos. Odi nma.

NOW; Seriously, let's be sincere. As things stand today politically, why would the APC even hand power to us Igbos in 2023?
On what grounds?
On what records?
On what politics?
Is power given to anyone?
Is it an appeasement or a gift?

The APC is a political party. The main focus of a political Party is to hold power and keep it to enable it deliver on its agenda. So if the APC reads that the SE does not want the Presidency or does not have the capacity to help them win and keep power, they will stick with the regions that can and work with individuals who are interested.

Make no mistake, I have always said, I do not blame us Igbos for the decision majority of us took in 2015. It's our right. But continuing to pretend that it was other regions, Buhari or the APC that made us do what we did then or remain where we are today is purely self deceit and I refuse to play that ostrich game.

As far back as 2014, I and many others made that argument that Igbo Presidency was very feasible in 2023, ONLY under under the APC, ONLY IF we did a couple of things right politically. I personally continued to speak loudly on that even after the 2015 elections until when I realized that we were not ready to play the politics that was required and now I dare say it may be too late. Or is it not? Time will tell.

For now, we can continue to tell ourselves that we cannot hold the Presidency of Nigeria. I heard and read many of our brethren go from PDP to Biafra/seccesion (read IPOB) to Referendum to "Igbos do not need Presidency but Restructuring" etc forgetting that all that didn't lie squarely with us alone. We think other regions are not reading our body language?

I really don't care what Saraki writes or says because they've all come to realize that it's very easy to play us like a flute. So like Saraki, like Fani Kayode, like Fayose, like Atiku, even Jonah Jang of all people, they keep playing us.

I've learnt not to bother myself anymore to avoid unnecessary abuse from nonentities . As some of us have said, it's good governance we want, even if only one village will be producing the Presidents. So be it.
Dr Uche......

Ka Chineke mezie okwu.

It has not gotten to that, Ohaneze. All you need do is to council my fellow Igbos especially the youths to drop this hatred attitude lured in them by selfish politicians because it's certainly not in our blood to hate and insult others.

When you do that, you come out open and declare your stand on who to support, Buhari or Atiku, work very hard for the person. If he wins, you merry but if he looses you accept your fate and quickly mend face with the winner and encourage others to support him. by so doing, you will gradually earn your respect and that of others you lead.

As for me and my household, the choice is very easy as we are already on the voyage to the next level.

Sick people and selfish people.

This is just politics to enable the igbos voters to cast more votes to APC.
They want to use this medium to draw the igbos attention.. The Yoruba knows it's the time for the igbos but they want the igbos to cast votes for buhari..

Whether we vote him or not, 2023 is certain. Our fate cannot change. Time to see how igbo president will transform this country since other tribes had tried and failed.
God bless the igbo people..

They are just fighting for their pockets.

If you ask me, the South East is trying to reap, politically, from where they haven't sowed.

As Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is wont to say, 'power is not served a-la-carte'! The Igbo cannot expect to have power handed to them in 2023 just on the basis that it's their turn.

And in fairness to Tinubu, he has invested his time and huge resources in the APC project, like no politician from the South East has ever done.

This Ohaneze are a bunch of confused clowns.

You admit that your region is not interested in the presidential ticket, yet you (in the same breath) condemn another region showing interest as being over-ambitious and selfish.

The confusion plaguing the Igbos is obviously not restricted to their youths. It could be genetic afterall.

NB: Apologies to the very few reasonable Igbos who are the exception to the foregoing general rule.

Power is not given on a platter of gold, you have to align and reallign to get it as there is no where in the Constitution that defines who comes to power next. Restructuring is the answer but we must ask some few questions

What is the definition of your own restructuring?

What do we mean by restructuring?

These people should know that sentiment and blackmail won't make one of them President in 2023.
Asiwaju has taken over the campaign of PMB, PYO is doing great work too, moving from household to household all in bids to ensure the success of the the 4+4 .
But the people who are supposed to be everywhere working to ensure they prepare for a favourable 2023 are either on social media insulting the President or in their enclaves endorsing a candidate that won't win because they hate Buhari, now they're resorting to blackmailing.
Ordinarily, whose aspiration will you support in this senerio if you're PMB?

Some people will never learn!
