Think that is totally uncalled for. The Irish and the polish also milk the welfare. Social is cracking down on those who abuse the system, Excuse me xxcarolx but I am Irish, and I am entitled to avail of social welfare since I have paid my fair share of income taxes throughout the years. And you are forgetting that we are EU citizens. Some Nigerians and NOT all Nigerians. Sorry, I think you'll actually find that it's MOST and not some. |

overblood: You are too naive, there are Nigerians with Irish passports, living and working legally, they are entitled to social welfare as well. So stop moaning about being EU citizen and all that nonsense. 2 Likes |

Hey I never said there weren't Nigerians working honestly. But most of them come here to milk the system. That is a fact that nobody will deny, unless you are Nigerian in front of an immigration officer. I had a Nigerian telling me exactly how he scammed his way to Ireland. He came to UK on a holiday visa, got a ferry to Belfast and took a bus down to Dublin then made up some crap refugee story. Why didn't he stop in UK by the way? I don't get it and I didn't think to ask him. |

@ Overblood; And how many Irish live and work illegally in the US, Last I checked the Irish government was lobbying the US for some sort of amnesty for the Irish. Check the Live register stats, http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/labour_market/current/lreg.pdf You will see that in June 2011- Irish National =379,027 -- Others= 14,431 (this is the group for Non EU- ) So Non EU- make up less than 5% of the population on benefit. Even assuming that Nigerians make up half of the Non-EU numbers; which is highly impossible considering there is a large Congolese / East African/ Indian /Pakistani /Chinese Communities; it would still be like 2% of people on benefit - And newsflash as non Irish you are require to have worked and paid tax for 2years to be entitled to the above. Get your facts rights - The Irish have been milking the Irish system and stop trying to blame it on Nigerians. As per child benefit- Its is for the child-- every child gets it, Bono's and Bertie Ahern's children will get the same even though they are well off, and looking back few years, you will find that the Irish tend to have large families. |

There is a saying in Yoruba that 'an elder wo tied corn to his pants turns himself to hen's pals' Agbalagba to so agbado mo idi o ti so ara re di alawada adie I remeber when Ireland were given out passports to every tom diick and harry who have an Irish born children they do not have enough foresight to know that this is a recipe for disaster. Substantially whatever Nigerians are showing you today it was due to the fault of your politicians who are too lazy to formulate policies that will attract the right people to your country in the period of economic boom but chooses to attract the set of people who even by Nigerian standards are considered dregs of the society. Most nations with good foresight have a very robust immigration system to attract skilled professionals but Ireland choses to attract unskilled, lazy and greedy people to their country. I don't know if the situation has changed but I use to know that was very much easy to claim asylum in Ireland than to renew your work permit, so if you have policies like that you can have no one to blame but yourselves. For instance who can intentionally leave his house door open without attracting thieves? 1 Like |

I simply don't understand why some Nigerians are just outright lazy. As if our infamous reputation with the 419 thing is not damaging enough, a sizeable number of Nigerians abroad are happy to live off welfare, and drive flashy cars. They'd concoct all manners of lies and deceit to remain on welfare. Why are they so short-sighted, and unambitious? |

I live in an area where there has been an huge influx of Nigerians and in fact, have two families living next to me -- on one side, a family (mum, dad and three children) -- pleasant, friendly and nice. On the other, a crazy woman with her four children -- three of the four are disrespectful (spitting at you as you pass), play on the street in their 'go-cart' (crashing into parked cars), playing basketball against the side of the house (ours as well), screaming, screetching (sp) and generally, obnoxious. The mother thinks it's funny when any neighbours complain about the noise, the mother has threatened neighbours with knives, and any dispute, she says everyone is racist, etc. Interestingly, the other family WON'T let their own children play with these children, so it's clear to me that within the Nigerian community, just like in Ireland, there are decent people and scum. Both my husband and I work; we don't mind that our pleasant neighbours are getting a helping hand (our previous neighbours were also terrible, they crashed into our car and never told us, caused massive damage to the property and she ran an illegal creche as well (for some 20+ children)), but those that have four-five-six plus children and then make so much noise that nobody can open a window or even relax/sleep in, that I have a problem with -- is it because she is Nigerian? perhaps, more just because she is a horrible person, and that can be found in any culture/country? I wonder if I am a racist because I cannot stand my horrible neighbour and just wish she would move out! 1 Like |

@SabrinaKat Regarding your second neighbour - the crazy woman who threatens neighbours with knives and whose children spit at you as you pass. How do you know she is a Nigerian ?? The behaviour you describe is not Nigerianlike and even our men do not behave like that let alone our women in a foreign land. Try as best as you can to ascertain the Nationality of this obnoxious neighbour of yours and you may just be suprised that she is not Nigerian. |

Don't worry there coping just fine and social welfare. I myself am on Social welfare i'm Irish i get 47 euro a week it kills me going down to the social welfare offices to see all the nigerians with the best of everything. every time i'm down there they are always causing problems shouting i want more money i want this i want that. Also so many times when iv been on the bus, Nigerians that have young children in a pram leave the pram at the bus stop and get on the bus if there's no room for it knowing they can just get a new one of social welfare it makes me sick. I don't understand how i can only get 47 euro but they can get a house cars anything they want. A nigerian i went to school with got a car off social welfare while she was still in school because of "travel". I didn't even get a travel grant for my bus fair. I cant stand nigerians blacks what ever you want to call them. Yes some Irish people cheat the system and yes that still isn't right but nigerians come over here just to it, Id like to see them try get anything like that in their country. I just don't understand how they get away with it. |

@justwise I agree that some of marie's posts are wrong but honestly she's right Nigerian know how to milk the system very well few of the ways they use are: 1. Using non existent child to claim child benefits 2. Claiming benefits while working with someone else's documents or by using fake documents. In fact many have been caught while working with fake papers despite being on benefits 3. Claiming benefits for childcare while using someone else PPS number (NI) as childminder's 4. Until they introduced fingerprinting many of them have claimed asylum using up to 3 or more names. Many of those Nigerians with the exception of few profesionals are parasites I lived there before and it make me sick to see Nigerians behave this way. |

tunnytox:Yes there are Nigerians like that but Marie's comment is way out of order, she is not denying that Irish people do the same thing but Nigerians are singled out in her post cos she is racist bigot. I'm not for a moment supporting shameless Nigerians who does that but it shouldn't be generalized and exaggerated. 2 Likes 1 Share |
