On the issue of the arraignment of the CJN,I have a different opinion from that of some of our colleagues.First of all,the CJN is a public Officer and he is required to declare his assets pursuant to the public officer act.
It is not within the powers of NJC to investigate assets declaration matters. as a matter of law,it is only code of conduct Bureau that has constitutional powers to do so and the Constitution does not require the CCB to petition the NJC first before an action is taken. Besides, even in the often referred case of NGANGIWA v FRN ,the court of appeal made a powerful submission as follows: "
"It must be expressly stated that if a judicial officer commits theft, fraud, murder or manslaughter, arson and the likes, which are crimes committed outside the scope of the performance of his official functions, he may be arrested, interrogated and prosecuted accordingly by the State DIRECTLY without recourse to the NJC. These classes of criminal acts are not envisaged and captured by the provisions of Paragraph 21, Part 1 of the Third Schedule." So it is not in every case that judicial crimes have to be referred to the National judicial Council. In the light of the above, I submit that the Chief justice of Nigeria is to be arraigned for offence committed as PUBLIC officer not as judicial officer.Besides the case of NGANJIWA V FRN is to protect the judicial officers acting in the cause of their duty and not to protect or shield fraudulent judicial officers(that is if they are truly fraudulent.) same was held in relation to the public officers protection act by the supreme Court in
KWARA STATE PILGRIMS WELFARE BOARD v. BABA (2018) LPELR-43912(SC).

Buhari's politically motivated move gone terribly wrong.

He chose the wrong man for his charade, and is about to bring the house down on his own head.

See all these 5k petition writing hungry riff raffs who called themselves lawyers .

They should go to advance countries and see how lawyers operate. shocked

It's 100% impossible to catch all the thieves in Nigeria at once, it's one by one. Those calling it selective or witch hunt are purely senseless and dwarf in thinking

The guy in that first picture beside the embattled CJN was an SUG President in my school days at Unibuja his name is Pelumi Olajengbesi. He was a corrupt President that embezzled union's money, he was a known corrupt President in my school days. I fear for our judicial system if people like the corrupt Pelumi finally get a federal appointment.

i cant help weeping when i looked at our judiciary in this country and they call it the last hope of the masses. if the judiciary in itself is an embodiment of corruption what hope is left in it for the masses.

This case of CJN it baffles me why all these emotional and sentimental driven Nigerians do not want to know if the allegations are true or false. Nigerians are not ready for a better Nigeria what is our business if the probe is selective or not what matters most is whether he is guilty or innocent of crime and leave that to the court to decide.
its not that the govt is sending him to jail outrightly, he was just asked to step aside then go to the CCT to clear his name.

The problem is not that the CJN is corrupt...the problem is that in Nigeria, we are a tribal society.

People see things through the tribe. An attack on the CJN is an attack on tribal and political interests. It isn't an attack on corruption.

The problem with Nigerians is, Nigerians like their corruption. We see corruption fight as a weapon to use against our enemies. We are all guilty of this.

If a leader ACTUALLY fought corruption in Nigeria...prosecuted everyone without fear or favour..I guarantee that that leader would not only be overthrown, but would be murdered...and then in the years to come would be hailed as a 'hero, a saint'...while the chopping continues.

You must remember learned brother that paragraph 24 of the second schedule does not capture section 22 of the amended NJC provisions hereby impending the holder of the public office to judicial review.

PStacks:
The erudite jurist Akinola Aguda, of blessed memory, said in 1978, when handling a case in which a lawyer was found guilty:
"Because you are a lawyer, who is supposed to know better, I will give you the maximum punishment prescribed under this act.
“I want the lawyers, and judges to know that if politicians can fail the society, military can fail the society, lawyers cannot afford to fail the society or else we are all doomed.
We should not drag sentiment into law. No matter the people’s nomenclature, tribe, religion, we should be guided by the law''
Our number one jurist in 2019 remembered to declare his Naira account but said he forgot to declare his fx account.
Wetin I sabi? Lawyers said that the law says the case must go to NJC first where the accused is the head and NBA chairman who is also standing a corruption trial is a member.

My brother, I weep for these people!
We have so many idioooots in Nigeria. Very useless set of people.

Someone infringed on the law,and the people who are suppose to guide it began to misbehave.
So many useless people we have in Nigeria, People who do not know their left from their right.
#Spit on their head!
