Although I agree with you the that reviewers shouldn't have the final say...

... You don't have to deceive people while trying to prove your point.

Sandra Bullock received the Raspberry for All about Steve and won Oscar for The Blind Side. Two different movies so why implying that the two opposing awards are for the same film.

Have integrity pls. Don't be like Buhari

why do we have to put tribe into everything in this country.

you guys igbolized the nollywood, bastardised it and now claiming eastern movie.

... not that they are strong rather they are hardened

... disoriented characters that have confused individual achievements for collective achievements

... strong enough to insist on having their ways but extremely weak when it comes to letting others have theirs

... problems are always external, the faults are always someone else ... because it's either their ways or highway

within same week, sandra Bullock got awards for worst actress and best actress, these are based on reviews

I have always said it that the number of Pull Him/Her Down syndrome (PHD's) holders in Nigeria is very high.
You see people trying to discredit every good and wonderful thing from the other person just because of hate. Everybody (almost everybody) attack everything destructively. Hardly will you see a genuine constructive criticism.
Imagine people are down here attacking a film bought by a multi-billion dollar worldwide film streaming platform... And to even hear some say "Netflix is overrated" even sickens me the more... These are people who don't know the difference between a Netflix Original and other movies on Netflix. So since Netflix decided to come to Nollywood and to Genevieve Nnaji, Netflix is now overrated abi? In a certain Governors voice I say "This is Iberiberism of the highest order!"

With their myopic reviewing, they are forming over Sabi and "thinking" for Netflix cos they are wiser than Netflix and her Board of directors..., they have already concluded that #LionheartTheMovie has no story line... even when world renowned news platforms like CNN and BBC has talked about the movie and places it on the HIGH?
Some even say it's predictable but at the same time, keep ask in anger why Osuofia had to gate crash into a particular scene... OK, since you said it's predictable, why then didn't it happen your way probably the discussion should have been done in the open so that Osuofia can see them easily... But they forget that in real life, God can make u wander about just to meet your destiny helper in the least place that you can ever imagine? No nah! they can't see that because in their lives, everything is perfect! Nonsense! Like seriously it's very pathetic!

People are here (including all those greedy, wicked and jealous filmmakers) talking what I don't know but a whole New York Times has tagged this film the best from Nollywood.
It's very funny and indeed extremely pathetic!
One thing about this life is that you will always have people who will talk and gossip NONSENSE about your SENSE! But these people have never produced any thing that is overwhelming and that is if they have ever produced anything.
But the truth still remains that, #LionheartTheMovie by Genevieve Nnaji is still the best thing to happen to Nollywood and the entire African movie industry... It is a standard for other films and filmmakers in both Nollywood and Africa as a whole. It's a standard that they should all look up to for progress of they want to go global... (Although I am still a fan/activist of having a One Movie Industry in the whole of Africa and calling it Nollywood. Imagine the AMVCA's being an African Academy Award instead of just a viewers choice award?)

If I were all these filmmakers, I will throw away nonsense pride and go and genuinely congratulate Genevieve Nnaji and beg her to teach me and then I would bend down obediently and learn from her because:
1) She is the face of African Cinema, she is Nollywood's Sweetheart and now Nollywood's Lionheart! Lol!

2) She is global and there is absolutely nothing anybody can do about it.

3) Her movie and production/directing is global. You can rate it anyhow you want to rate it, it's your business and not that of Netflix, CNN, BBC, New York Times, etc. and

4) She has made Nollywood global!
These are facts!

You all have a nice day and let's all delete envy and jealously from our life and timeline! Because, e no day pay gan!

Its just everybody's different reviews, other movies too has been criticised but they was no noise of hate or PhD syndrome. Why is people's review on the movie pinching him..... pls live tribalism and attack anybody u want to attack with ur word

I think this started most recently..... I think you must have used or heard of this sentence "IGBOS ARE NOT UNITED".... An igbo man was the least tribe-conscious person...If what is on ground doesn't favour him and his family then DAMN IT even if the person involved is igbo....But then this is NIGERIA where tribe and religion matters a lot in any adventure..... and the Igbo man is only ADAPTING TO THE NIGERIAN CLIMATE......they might sound too tribalistic... but believe me an igbo is less tribalistic in nature compared to the other major Tribes in nigeria

You're absolutely right that Netflix does not rate nor guarantee acceptability, the viewers do, but Netflix doesn't accept any junk on their platform, any Netflix subscriber knows this. Movies aired on Netflix have to meet rigid standards of acceptability, and they as a corporation, just don't buy rights to a movie because they feel like it, they paid almost $4million because they felt it was a good movie and would certainly appeal to their audience. Just like Netflix Originals, if this movie succeeds on their platform, who knows, she would be invited to write African content for them.

The topic is misleading.
Ugezi Ugezi was talking about Nigerian reviewers in general - Igbo, Yoruba, Niger Delta etc.

Misleading headlines like this that pitch Igbos against Yorubas should be discouraged.
The author's post has no tribal colouration but nairaland has painted it with tribal colours

Who are the Lagos reviewers? Does'nt Lagos being yo Afonjas again?

Lmao... The retort is in my reply? Lol... I'm guessing that you agree that Netflix doesn't pay $3.8 million because they feel like it, but because, they have an opinion that the movie was worth it and they like it. Every other thing else is irrelevant. As regarding the "IF", it's only conditional, it doesn't erase the fact this is a foot in the door. Lol at there are wack movies on Netflix, but Netflix doesn't pay almost $4 million right of distribution for wack movies. If they did that for all wack movies, they'd be in SO MUCH loss and reduced membership.

Whether you accept it or not, Netflix may not be the Oscars, but Netflix is the biggest end-to-end movie distribution platform operating in over 190 countries and almost 140 million annual memberships. Furthermore, Netflix original and series have often been Oscar nominated on several occasions. Getting your movie accepted on Netflix is a BIG DEAL for many producers, and not only that, but having their content executives so interested in it to want to have exclusive distribution right for a big payday is a challenge that doesn't come easy for many. So regardless of how you try to discredit Netflix, that's your choice... Fact can never be erased.

Netflix serves 190+ countries, and by virtue of cultural diversity, most movies wouldn't appeal to you and would likely seem wack kinda like how Lionheart doesn't appeal to some Nigerian groups and they see it as "wack". It doesn't mean that Netflix allows junk production on their platform, and more importantly, wouldn't even pay a dime, let alone a high amount to have it distributed on their platform.

Ugezu J Ugezu, the great screenwriter. Always filled with suspense whenever you are watching his movies. His, is indeed one of a kind.

Gennie, ezigbo nwada e ji eje mba, aka ekpuchi onwa. Keep breaking the barrier.
Am yet to watch the movie though seen the highlight. A movie featuring the erudite professor; Kanayo O. Kanayo, the great legend of things fall apart and evergreen Pete Edochie, the master stroker; Osuofia Nwaezigbo, Nkem Owoh, the great songstress; Onyeka Onwenu, Alobam and guys pasa n'ogbe Phyno and many others.
Lionheart; Obiagu, take 5*

The movie is mostly being reviewed by her own people who share innate amount of hate towards each other.
Neflix buys contents, it does make no much difference from other works from Africa, even at that, her work hasn't yet been rated a top 5 among other classics in Nigeria, much less.
No tribe could be jealous of Igbo works since they are just a replica of many other successful works which other tribes have achieved before theirs.

It is funny that someone takes movie critics as tribal... The same new York times the op is hailing has probably criticised movies the op thought was excellent. Besides articles are usually the perspective of an individual and not the view of the organisation (New York times)

That being said I watched the movie and I rated it a 5/10....which to me is a fair reflection of what I watched.....You can't bully anybody to call a spade a club..... If you enjoyed the movie good...if you didn't also good

When all the critics are coming from one Ethnic group then it becomes tribal
