Readonee35L:I tire o. Aunty Radu sells the Lucas booster for 2k per bottle, and one bottle is used on a full tank of gas. So this guy fills his tank 20 times a month? Edit: 7k, actually. |

nwanneni:Oga go sleep. Acura mdx 2nd gen ![]() 40k octane booster monthly. Does the car use the octane booster as fuel(maybe you fill the tank with octane booster only ) or you still buy fuel in the tank aside 40k octane booster .So in a year the person spends #480,000 on octane booster alone aside fuel and even the vehicle maintenance on ordinary mdx. Unless the car is a track car running racing fuel to attain the highest hp as possible. No mdx will use 40k booster in a month . |

Readonee35L:Nwaneni, he will enjoy the car if he is in Lagos. Last last him go dey cross border once in a while go buy premium fuel for Ghana as some Lagos guys do. Or he will run octane boosters in the car. If not a corolla will pass you when the pings start at 3k rpm. Readone35L, abeg school the guy. I have bought a gallon of xylene for mixing my fuel after my last sojourn to the east. Octane boosters are more expensive, so I figured I'd mix a bit of xylene to boost the octane. Still waiting on Sooperrescue to give the formula for making in-house octane boosters. ![]() Chai, I won't forget the look the corolla guy gave me when he passed me and my x was pinging while struggling to keep up. It was humiliating. Make I catch that corolla again. |

Since I've owned my 07 M35, I haven't really had the chance to put the pedal to the metal on full throttle! This early morning around 5ish (still dark, with streets lights) on my way to Dei Dei market to buy a basket of tomatoes from those farmers at a very cheap rate, I finally let the car fly. Boy oh boy...it was ecstatic! The sound of the V6 Engine, the adrenaline rush and the stability at 200km per hour on the Kubwa free-way was out of this world! It almost felt I was racing one of those fast cars in a video game! ![]() |

9icetoo:So, I've been doing research on this. Use this calculator. http://www.motorsportsracingfuels.com/OctaneCalculator.html Desired octane rating: 92 Min octane rating: 87 (Nigerian fuel is probably worse but it's a good start) Max octane rating: 117 (octane rating of Xylene) Desired gallons is the total amount of fuel you want in your tank after the mixture (20 gallons for most sedans) For every 10 litres of the total mix you're doing, add 30ml of ATF. Xylene apparently kills lubricants in gasoline, so you need to balance it back so it doesn't eat at your fuel assembly. Give us feedback. Edit: According to all mixture formulas I've seen so far, you'd need to use about 1.5 gallons (5L) of Xylene on an 80L tank to raise it from 89 RON to 91 RON. That said, there's a guy who says he used the 444ml can of octane booster and manage to stop pinging, so I'm not sure. Could be a placebo effect? Could be that pinging still occurs but just inaudibly?

HeavenlyBang:It is Toulene, diesel and atf but I can't find the formula yet. Nicetoo, this week will be great and I will get it for you. The formula is great and it does wonders for the engine. Even small quantity of Toulene will make changes to the pinging but to be on the safe side, mix it well |

A won chemistry student .... ![]() The simple thing and most appropriate would have been ethanol and converting it to its petrol derivative of ethene. How do you go about it CASSAVa abundant in Nigeria. You just utilise the haber-bosch process to get your gas and condense it which can be locally fabricated at a token. |
| Re: A Tribute To My Infiniti G35x 2007 by sooperrescue(m): 12:14pm On Jan 21, 2019 |
nurey:You are testing my Chemistry acumen . Cassava as fuel converted to Ethanol is feasible, derivatives from Cassava chips and there are many companies competing to use the product as their raw materials but we are bothered with Premium fuel and its substitute since Dangote has shown that he is scamming us with the shifting of commencement date and intending to produce Euro 5 emissions fuel in 2021. Who needs Euro 5 emission fuel in 2021 when we already have Euro 6 in Toyotas, Peugeot, Fiat, Range Rovers? |
| Re: A Tribute To My Infiniti G35x 2007 by 9icetoo(m): 2:35pm On Jan 21, 2019 |
Readonee35L:I guess he was referring to me. I have Ben travelling quite a bit and to be honest, a full tank of fuel requires octane booster of about 7k to avoid the pings on long journeys. Now if I travel every weekend and use up two tanks of fuel for to and fro, that's about 14k of octane boosters in one weekend. Multiply that by four and you see why it could easily add up to 40k and more. To reduce the expense and preserve my engine, I opted or a cheaper alternative which is to use xylene. So far so good. I am well aware that it doesn't have the lubricants in normal pms but I make up for that by adding fuel treatment at each fillip. Xylene is 2k a liter and I bought 25liters. I only use 1/2 a liter to treat a full tank and I don't get any pings with just 1/2 a liter. So far so good. I will follow soperrescues guideline on how to mix it up. Trust me, that ping can be infuriating. Knowing you can't stomp on the pedal in anger when a gtr comes right beside you can do your head in. ![]() I'd be the first on the queue if any filling station decides to sell premium fuel. These crap fuel are really ruining engines. A lot of people don't even know when their engine is pinging. They just drive on and on and on. |
| Re: A Tribute To My Infiniti G35x 2007 by 9icetoo(m): 2:43pm On Jan 21, 2019 |
HeavenlyBang:The guy could be right. I use that product advertised by aunty radu and the ping disappears instantly but its expensive. I tried the cheap route once end route to Enugu and I nearly wept. I used the STP product. I ended up needing three of it to stop the pings. Each cost 1500. That's 4500 worth for a full tank. I was down to almost half tank when I added the last one. My heart was in my mouth along the stretch between isuochi and nnpc filling station at Enugu. I added the last one at nnpc and drove to Abakaliki without any more drama. Mind, the stretch between isuochi and that nnpc mega station is mostly uphill and car was loaded. Car is a second gen MDX. |

@HeavenlyBang I’m sure I must have missed something because if xylene cost 2k per litre (according to 9icetoo) and about 5litres is required for a 80lites mixture. The implication is that 10k of xylene would be required which is way more than Aunty Radu octane booster Again, I want to believe I’m not reading this right. Kindly clarify |

| Re: A Tribute To My Infiniti G35x 2007 by 9icetoo(m): 11:46am On Jan 22, 2019 |
HeavenlyBang:Seen. I will do one liter at a time. Cos adding just 0.5 liter and the johnsen STP octane booster (N1.5k) stopped the pinging. I will do that when I get back. To the peeps wondering how much damage xylene and toluene will do to fuel lines. Relax, premium fuel contains a higher percentage of toluene and xylene. The pms in your car already contains a good portion of xylene and toluene. That is what boosts the octane rating. Even alcohol boosts octane rating. alcohol has a worse effect on fuel lines than xylene and toluene. Fuel lines are designed to resist the effects of toluene and toluene and in Europe and USA where they have e85 PMS which is 15% alcohol, their fuel limes would have melted off. Although cars whose fuel limes and engines were not designed to handle e85 fuel will have a sticker telling you not to pour it in. |
| Re: A Tribute To My Infiniti G35x 2007 by HeavenlyBang(m): 3:30pm On Jan 22, 2019 |
9icetoo:Yes, 1L per tank should be enough to get our octane rating up to like 89 RON or so. It's basically a 1.5% mixture ratio and most engines have a 30% ratio tolerance for Xylene. Be careful with that stuff, bro. It's carcinogenic. In fact, I wouldn't store 25L of the thing anywhere near me. Here's a relevant passage on the matter. So I drive a car that requires 93 min. Octane. Me, being the skeptic started thinking about Gasoline blends around the world. I realized in my travels (and I am extremely well traveled), that pretty much every other country in the world has one grade of Gas vs. America and some parts of Europe and even the rest of the world. It really comes down to the mixture. After 8 months of exhaustive research, I thought I’d try my hand at mixing up a batch of Octane Booster. Now I do have chemistry experience (I’m a do it all kind of guy). So being divorced and bored, I thought I would try some things. |

cooldudeng:1L of Xylene per fill up should be enough to get your car's performance at 100%. kingreign:Nothing dey happen. Do you know the kind of hydrocarbons that are mixed into the fuel you buy? Worse high octane hydrocarbons like Benzene are in your fuel, if you don't know. Just add the needed lubrication to the mixture and the car will be fine. |

| Re: A Tribute To My Infiniti G35x 2007 by 9icetoo(m): 10:08pm On Mar 10, 2019 |
HeavenlyBang:So far so good. One liter mixed with 30 ml transmission oil and 20 ml diesel fuel does the trick. I don't use the mixture when doing town driving though. Only use it when I travel with family which is often these days. Ping is gone but like I posted in another thread, car doesn't ping when I travel alone (without load) even without the xylene mixture. But it does feel faster when it has the xylene mixture in it and the fuel economy is always above 13 mpg when it's got xylene in it around town. |
