Does not change the very simple fact that Enrique is a possessive coach and in his lowest average, he was still possessive. Having a 61.9% possession is high. Very high. If you watch the game, you will marvel at the brilliant passing game.

Losing possession means they were willing to take more risk to attack and going on the counter is them striking back when they regain possession. It does not mean they were not keeping possession on a high scale.

The point is too simple.

Finito.

Those drop in numbers actually saw Barcelona gradually walk away from their famed ticki tacka to a more direct approach.
They weren't comfortable with the idea, they panicked and sacked Enrique even after winning a treble.
That was the story.

I totally disagree. Manchester United under Solskjaer and Mourinho is a true picture of my point.

Under Mourinho's system, it was hard to see the qualities of the players. Some thought the players were thrash and wanted them sold.

Under Solskjaer, you can see the individual brilliance of each player.

It is the same with development. Offensive plays demand a lot from players and increase their all round abilities. You can see it in the development of Stones, Otamendi, Sterling and Sane.

Finally, the appeal of an offensive game is an icing to the cake. It is difficult to build a long term dominating team just like we have seen with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City in recent years, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc by playing Conservative football.

So I will always critique conservative football because it is hardly a long term strategy. It is a system that also slows the progress of players in their individual abilities.
Toh, Your opinion is well received.

61.9% is still a high possessive stat. Okay?

Finito.

High, but not exactly ticki tacka.

This passage from ESPN says it all...

The shift is real, though, and is troubling for Barcelona: That control has largely gone, the midfield is being overrun -- the midfield! at Barcelona! -- and the performances, if not as catastrophic as is claimed, have not convinced. They are losing their footballing religion, it is true.

I wonder if you are paying attention. Enrique plays an attacking variant of tiki taka. You can not say he is no tiki taka.

Look at the image below. That is Guardiola this season against West Ham. The possession stat is 60% which is high. Enrique having an average of 61.9% is highly possessive.

Below is Guardiola. Look at the possessive stats. It is lower than even that 61.9%.

Crystal Palace are lining up a move for Spezia forward David Okereke, reports the Mirror.

The 21-year-old Nigerian has starred for the Serie B side this season, scoring six goals and assisting eight.

Okereke is rated at £7 million ($9m).

Mourinho bought Pogba for a lot of money and could not do jack with him. Are you saying the money will do the developmental work? We have seen players bought with huge sums and flopped. There is a lot of work needed on Frankie De Jong to help him achieve his potential. I can bet he would have improved at a far faster rate under Guardiola than any other coach.

Does that not make Guardiola Special?

Siasia has what is called myboyssyndrome. It was at the 2008 Olympics that I became suspicious of this Siasia guy. Isaac Promise was useless in that tournament, yet he started him ahead of an inform Anichebe and even gave him the captain band. This silly Promise guy went ahead to miss an open goal in the final against Argentina. Also, when he was Eagles coach, Solomon Okoronkwo was the Ezenwa then. Despite the guy not taking numerous opportunity given to him, he is always the first name on the list. Until he flopped in the friendly against Argentina in Malaysia before he was forced to drop him.
Siasia is worse than Keshi in terms of selection fraud.
like Kog45 said, it's synonymous to all coaches even at club level an easy example is Neur at the last world cup he doesn't even deserve to go talk less of starting games. So I don't really see it as fraud tho I think it's not good enough but Siaone shouldn't be criticized for that

Are you sure ChrisKels because that's my secondary school and didn't hear about Ogbeche attending the school throughout my stay there.

ChrisKels:

Mbjane stop saying what u know nothing about. Ogbeche just like Amunike played with his real age, not even a second was subtracted. I could remember back in 2012 on kickoffnigeria.com, a good friend/super analyst by name "game147"who was a school mate of Ogbeche at FGC Okigwe shared a pic he took with Ogbeche when Ogbeche was their games prefect in sec school.

He was on target again today, netting a wonderful opener which took his tally for January alone to eight and reflecting on another fine display, Gabriel said his fine form on the pitch was mirrored off it by his deep attachment to his adopted city.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mancity.com/news/first-team/first-team-news/2019/january/man-city-burnley-gabriel-jesus-reaction%3famp=1

Eight goals alone in January is enough to tell you the dramatic improvement of Gabriel Jesus. It is almost impossible to train under the kind of Intensity Guardiola puts his players and not improve.

It is people like you that will be blind to the development of the likes of Pedro and Busquets who were young players Guardiola crafted into Superstars.

Guardiola's impressive work is evident with Phil Foden who has repeatedly put on brilliant displays. His only challenge is that he is up against some of the most outstanding talents in World Football like David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

Phil Foden's potential to become England’s missing link as a creative influence in midfield has already caught former Three Lions skipper Rio Ferdinand’s eye.

The 18-year-old was more conspicuous at Wembley than Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, once seen as England’s brightest midfield prospect, and Ferdinand was encouraged by the teenager’s demeanour and maturity.

He said: “The biggest compliment I can pay Foden is that you didn’t even feel City were missing Kevin De Bruyne or David Silva on Sunday – there is no higher praise I can give him.

“Although we all enjoyed England’s World Cup run, at times they were crying out for a creative influence in midfield, and this kid has the potential to operate in that position.

“In the Community Shield, I liked his weight of pass, and I liked the way he made the right decisions with the ball most of the time – which, for a boy of his age, is something you don’t often see. Usually, you have to wait a few years for that aspect to emerge.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is the latest to praise Foden, believing the youngster is similar to City legend David Silva and the impressive Bernardo.

“He seems like a carbon copy of the two Silvas in the way he plays,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“It’s two great players who know how to play the game the right way, in a system that can teach him so much.

“And even sometimes just being in the squad and watching it, even as a young kid, just sitting on the bench and being in that environment is sometimes enough.

“And it’s as important sometimes as even just playing at this young age.”

The bolded echos my point of Nacho staying and learning his craft at City. Training in such an intense system, learning things from the other quality players and getting a game or two here and there would have been enough for him to keep improving at an impressive rate.

Hold on a sec. Barcelone front six under Enrique was,
Neymar... Suarez.. Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets.
It is academic these guys will out pass most teams they played even if Big Sam was their coach.
The question is not about having the upper hand in their possession stats, we are talking about ticki tacka.
A peculiar kind of passing game that focuses on recycling the ball slowly, sideways passes, total dominace of the midfield.

Enrique wasn't all about that. He wanted the ball moved faster to the front three. This resulted in significant drop in possession. Busquets pass completion dropped from 91 to 80 same as Xavi and Iniesta.
Barcelona fans saw this kind of football against the Cryuff blueprint. Messi in particular threatened to quit the club.
Enrique just had to go. However, he achieved just as much as Guardiola achieved without ticki tacka.

I wonder how else I am to break this down to you. No one is saying Enrique is the same with Guardiola. Heck, I am one of those who watched both at their purest stage when Guardiola coached the Barca B and when Enrique did the same. The difference was clear. One (Pep) prefers to hold the ball longer than the other (Enrique). That does not mean they share totally opposite philosophies.

It is far from the truth to tag Enrique (No tiki taka) because he is from the same Barcelona Train of thought, championed by Johann Cruyff.

They are both possessive coaches that rely a lot of short passing of the game to hang on to the ball. That is the tiki taka philosophy. Even though Enrique played in a more offensive fashion, he still relies a lot on dominating possession and winning the ball back in a long time.

So, let’s start with the tactical similarities. Guardiola’s Barcelona and Enrique’s Barcelona play very similar styles of football. As with most Barcelona sides, they like to have as much of the ball as possible, and a lot of the build-up play involves the midfield trio. In 2008-2012, that was Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets (although pre-2009, Seydou Keita and Yaya Toure were involved rather than Busquets).

They also adapted a style of play now famously known as ‘tiki-taka’ football, which essentially involves lots of short passing and good movement off the ball while getting themselves closer to goal, before a player plays a pass to completely split the opposition defence open, leaving the forwards with just the goalkeeper to beat.

In attack is arguably where the biggest change has come. While Guardiola’s Barcelona relied heavily on midfielders getting the ball to the forwards and getting assists, in Enrique’s system, the bond between Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar is so strong that at times, they could win games playing on their own.

Note this for next time sake. Tiki Taka has a lot to do with dominating possession utilizing short passes and brilliant off-the-ball movement which both Guardiola and Enrique share the same ideals. So hence you can not tag Enrique, no tiki taka.
