So I am done with first semester. It has been a long semester tho. I would like to discuss about the exam situation and some cultural shocks experienced.

The German university education is structured in a way that you have to work under time pressure in the exam hall and most times the exam is where you get all your grade for the course (except the professor puts in place some extra bonus schemes).

Owing to this, if you go into the examination hall without profound knowledge, you might woefully fail. Some professors also allow you to come in with cheat sheet(whatever you feel like writing into the exam hall. It is limited to A4 paper front and back).

Good thing and bad thing about exams here is that you can decide to not write the exam even on the day for the examination. All you have to do is go collect sick letter from doctor. Even before the examination, they ask you if you're fit for the exam, else you can leave.

Do you guys remember those days before an examination when they will search you as though you're a terrorist before you enter the hall? Well it doesn't happen here. It was always obvious that we were international students in the examination hall because every other German student often had drinks and snacks in front of them despite the fact that examination is going on. But international students? Nothing dey our front.

I am kinda free for 4 weeks. Going on vacation and I intend on using it to learn Python programming. I just want to get a student job and develop myself not these standing committee jobs.

It is question time and you can all ask your questions and I try my best to answer them, or tell me what to write about.

Python is quite easy to learn.I would suggest Colt Steele's Python 3 bootcamp course on Udemy. What are you studying bro?

I'll like you to talk about the standard/cost of living in your city, ease of getting job in ur current city and the pay range. Also talk about relationship especially with German babes- how do they see us black Africans?
Also how friendly are your lecturers/co German students- do they associate well.

Housing is expensive in my city, even the student hostel is €300+ per month. Getting a job without german in my city is 2%.

Germans are wired in a way that I don't understand, I don't really relate with their ladies so I don't have an answer for you.

Lecturers are friendly and approachable but professional as well. There was a dinner and drinking party with the HOD of my department in December.

Hell oh hell.

Unfortunately, there's no story here. I am kind of a reserved and secretive person, and I happen to be around people that that talk much about themselves and never bother to hear about me.

Only my very close friends knew about my traveling. The normal friends and acquaintances did not know about my traveling because I didn't post pictures of "abroad" on my social media except on special dates in my life and the pictures don't even depict where I presently live.

Sorry I have nothing to say about the city. But I believe there will always be bigger cities close by that you can look towards.

Yes, but kinda subtle and I kinda caused it.

I will definitely move away from Germany to an English speaking country because of my family and Europe is kinda super boring.

Unfortunately, I can't answer this because I don't even know where the embassies are. You don't know all these things except you have businesses there. But guess dey carry UK visa anyhow for here. Once you're out of Nigeria, it is kinda fairly easy to get visit visa to other countries as along as you meet the requirements.

Nursing is not a really big jib here in Germany unlike other countries. You might want to search about that yourself.

pls Bracket how much do you spend per day and per month. I'm asking because of the block account, I think the estimated cost of living per month is too much. This is after doing some conversions of currency. And also as a student I know I don't spend that much per month, although cost of living there may be higher than that here in 9ja

Sometimes, I can do without spending a dime in one week. The estimated cost per month is too much tho, but it still boils down to your spending habits. An average international student from Europe doesn't cook, they eat out almost every time and this is expensive in the long run.

What will take the chunk of your spending is house rent, insurance, radio bills and Internet. A budget of €500 per month will do for the first few months before you figure out your spending habits and minimizing it.

Hello bracket. Pls what type of jobs are available for students in your city. Is it possible to work two or more mini jobs? approximately how much can one make in a month? Do you reckon one can repay BA funds from these jobs in a year?
What do you think about Northern Germany? Is it a good student destination in terms of all the above mentioned. Thanks man

I was going to generalize before, but I think it is best I don't.

My personal experience with 80% of Nigerians I have met here isn't smooth at all. We kinda see each other ad competition and hoard vital information or tends to give them out when it not useful again.

Almost all the jobs I have done here was through the connections of other African acquaintances. Nigerians will give you outdated information or rather not go into depth about the information.

I remember working a job with some fellow Nigerians and I kept on asking them what's the next hustle after the present one finishes but they wouldn't say anything. Long story short, little did I know that this particular guy in question has signed another contract that is to begin immediately the present one finishes.

As God will fortunately have it, one way or the other, my friends and I got the contract to work in the same place he started the new jobs several weeks after not knowing that the guy has even started working there for a long time.

Imagine the amount of money and energy that has been wasted before getting that job. If only the guy could have told us to go ask fot that particular job at the job firma.

In essence, don't bank 100% on the information you get from fellow country people. The vital part of it might be missing.

Having said that, it will be unfair to not to mention that the last jib I did was 100% recommended to me by a Nigerian, even though he also got the information from a Cameroonian

My city is a relatively small one and I haven't worked here before due to language barrier so I can't say.

It is illegal to do two mini jobs (i.e two 450 jobs) because that way you wouldn't be paying tax. What you want to do is do one mini job and the other one has to be taxable (i.e you work more than 450 so that you can be taxed). So yes you can do two or more jobs but not more that one mini job.

You can repay your BA funds within a year not without somethings involved. You definitely want to find yourself in big cities like Munich, Hamburg, Bremen, Köln, Bonn, Berlin and the likes where there are relatively abundance of jobs and expensive house rents. Or you want to live close to these cities or travel to them. You will definitely have to miss lectures for some months. You need Deutsch as well to make make the job markets easily accessible for you. Above all you need strength because you have to work for coys like Daimler(Mercedes Benz), Ford, Amazon and the likes that pays well but drains your energy.

Every part of Germany is good as long as you survive and map out your next moves well.

P.S life becomes quite easy when you leave in big cities. But not everyone will find themselves in big cities so.....

Just help me generalise, for someone staying in let's say Lübeck, which is relatively close to hamburg how much can he/she make in a city like that during the semester and semester breaks. Have u seen students involved in exportation of vehicles, how possible is this?

Impossible is nothing. You can go into importation if you have the resources and connect. But don't get caught sha, because as a student, you're not allowed to own a business.

I really can't say anything about the city. But what I can advise you is to find out if the semester ticket gives you access to Hamburg and how far it is by train. Then you can visualize working in Hamburg.
