There's a difference between a country being poor and a country being the poverty capital of the world.

A country being the poverty capital of the world is when the country (ie Nigeria) has the highest number of people living in poverty in the world while a country being poor is when the country lacks the resources to develop.

Nigeria has resources, She's not so "poor" but she has the highest number/percentage of poor people in the world

Per Capital Income for Nigeria is above $2,000 even if the country is hard at the moment, some lazy people hide under the country is hard because they are not making any effort to improve their lives.

How many graduate is in real sense employable ? Not in this country that most graduate are consumed with the sense of entitilement as if they can take the degree to bank in exchange for millions of Naira. The reason they went to school is to solve the problem but instead join the long cue for white caller job.

Most poor people are poor in this country because they lack the will to be creative and refused to open their minds to opportunities around them.

But I'm not shying away from the fact that there are situations and circumstances beyond control some times but how we choose to handle it determine what will happen next in our lives.

Bros, personally I am not one to generalize, not least because while I have personally been several places in the North, I would NOT consider myself an authority on life in the North. Nonetheless, it’s not about a handful of cities (such as the ones you have listed) and/or a few rich folks or feudal families substantively isolated in (and sometimes insulated from) the midst of jarring poverty, illiteracy and slums. It’s about an estimated 92% poverty rate in Zamfara and an estimated 80+% poverty rate in a supposedly “rich” state like Kano (2016 UN estimates, and also figures recently recited by the Emir of Kano), as opposed (for instance) to an estimated less than 10% poverty rate in Lagos (same 2016 UN estimates). It’s about the millions of Almajiri children roaming the streets (even in the cities that you listed such as Kano and Kaduna), the shockingly high infant mortality rate (often the product of early marriage of largely uneducated girls), and so many other relatively more OBJECTIVE criteria (with the caveat however that I am personally suspicious of any figures/data in Nigeria). Unfortunately, we will never be able to begin to properly address our problems and shortcomings unless and until we recognize and acknowledge same.
