The only reasonable uni I see there is Babcock University. Other are just shiit.
I can't just seem to understand why any reasonable parent will take their adult child to prison-like uni like convenat, landmark, Madonna, afe babalola etc for such an exorbitant fee.

Many churches are already doing that. They give scholarship to brilliant students. Living faith for example gives scholarship to study postgraduate degree for students with first class.
Tertiary education isn't cheap anywhere in the world. The top universities in the world are owned by churches. The aim of those universities( Nigeria to be precise) is build men with sound character and moral with sound Christian doctrine. This is what is lacking in many public universities.

Will you please stop lying. Top universities in the world are not owned by Churches

When you say something be very sure of what you are saying. This is a public domain bro good quality education is available in some part of Europe I mean you dont pay a dime. Although, tertiary education is really expensive in most part of the world but there are still free schools in some part of Europe.

I hope you are not offended for the correction.

I have friends who send their kids to church colleges and guess what - they get huge discounts if they convert to the church’s denomination.

An example is a catholic college in PA that my friend sends his kids too. Once he became a catholic the school fees dropped dramatically.

So I expect the same here - most of those universities were built using church members donations, even the maintenance of those universities is carried out using donations plus the fees paid by students.

I will be surprised if these is no discount at all for registered church members - at least for the long term members.
Re: Outrageous School Fees Paid By Church Universities In Nigeria by IsraelSongz: 5:06pm On Feb 16, 2019
It is worth it based on the quality of education they offer and deliver. The only bad thing is that the most of the church members can't afford the tuition.

Don't stress it Bro, things are so bad in this country that people don't realize how costly education is. They probably don't even know the extent to which people go just to attend college in places like the U.S.

@op and those criticising

One thing we should all understand is that all over the world, quality education, health and security is EXPENSIVE. That is why even in capitalist countries, the government still has to subsidize these sectors to make it AFFORDABLE (NOT CHEAP).

The reason why public institutions are affordable is because they are subsidized. We can also see how the standard of education in public institutions have been steadily falling. This pattern is obviously not working and something needs to be done about it. Just like comparing the"free" government primary schools to the better equipped and run private institution.

Even the NUC (National University Commission) has come to agree that the future of tertiary education in Nigeria is in private hands which I must say is sad even though it's the truth.

Some may talk about mission schools in the past. What they fail to understand is that they were subsidized by their parent churches which have run for hundred of years and with deep pockets. Besides, this universities are not solely mission outposts

In summary, what I'm saying is that running those universities to standard costs real money which must be recouped.

NOTHING IS FREE!

There is no free school anywhere in the world. When citizens don't pay for it the govt pays. Germany which is tuition free levy's heavy taxes on its citizens to cover education costs in these universities.....

The difference is that while a German can be jailed for not paying his taxes you can't be forced to paying church donations. You can simply walk away and attend another church. If the church had predicated its own activities on your income then the church schools can shut down simply because one member no longer pays tithe.

What you fail to understand is the fact that those countries in Europe pay taxes hence the government can afford to provide free education from primary to tertiary education. The case of Nigeria is different because many Nigerians evade taxes. Germany for example offers free education up to tertiary education ( that is if they still do that). Now tell me how many Nigerians pay their taxes? Tax to GDP is just 6% the lowest in the world yet many are clamouring for free tertiary education

As much as i have huge love and respect for some men of God, i just can't place why they're involved in building tertiary schools when they can't make it affordable for their members and nigerians at large...it become worrisome to know that this institutions are build by "contributions/donations" from their members. I strongly believe there are viable options to hleping to build our educational systems that'll make it affordable to all instead of giving us the excuse of "cost of maintaining higher institution is expensive"

How about each church adopting a public institution, contribute toward her infrastructural and educational development while also monitoring seeing to the welfare of their members in such institution.
How about giving out scorlarship to brilliant members to study in our good public institution while also supporting the not so brilliant once. ...busary awards to less privileged members as well as monitoring their progress... e.t.c..

While you have raised some solid points, I believe one of the main reasons the church had to get involved in education is because of the values they can inculcate in the students. These schools are supposed to be free from cult activities, runs girls .... if the state and federal owned universities were being run properly, these schools will be unnecessary. Just to get a transcript from some of them is like hitting a brick wall that empties out ones bank account.

Too much of a fee, if I have such outrageous fee, I would rather find a better uiversity for my kids abroad to school.

And still yet, after spending such amount of money, they leave them to their fate to go and look for job and still bring the money back and enroll for their postgraduate studies.

I had an oportunity to be interviewed with a former colleague who finished in CU then for a job of 45k as a call centre agent.

We eventually got the job, though she's sound and intelligent, but 45k after spending such amount of money on school fees?

I won't dear do that for my kids, abeg abroad straight away.

Please nobody should quote me and say nonsense I am having heavy malaria
Find a university abroad but if they come back here they would still queue for 45,000 jobs as many foreign still grads do...
