I was happy seeing the young man warm up, only to see us concede, I just knew he was never coming on again.

Garner and Greenwood despite being the youngest are probably the most ready.
Chong is skinny and I watched an under 23 game recently that the only thing the defenders did not do was bring AK to shoot him, and the ref was looking like a dendemoron.

Gomes on his part seems to have stagnated a bit in his development. And that was my fear with him. With his small size if he does not adapt his game he won’t make it at the top level.

Funny enough yesterday was d very first time I actually watched his video on YouTube,I was just shouting see carrick oo see carrick oo...and he's a very good tackler like Keane..I like his confidence to always give that vertical pass through defense lines...after januzaj,I think I'm finally excited about a youth progressing to our first team..

I just hope he makes it to the first team successfully and that he performs well. We need midfielders and there aren't many good players out there. Look at Fred, a 50m acquisition that doesn't know what he's doing most times on the pitch.

I never said that. I earlier stated I wasn’t convinced any of the young players was ready for EPL.

I was only summarizing the sequence of events that prevented Chong from playing.
You guys sabi make strange deductions for here sha. Lol

Where do you watch youth players? MUTV or the MU app or where?

Hmmn. I want him to be made permanent too but i believe it would be too early to make that announcement. They should hold it off till May or at least end of season

Agreed. It's too early to make the announcement. Maybe the best time is when there's just a game or two left in the season- if he actually is the one.

Even OGS was mum about his future during today's presser.

Dude is 5ft3. He needs grit and a bigger frame to cut it out in the EPL. Even Rashford gets knocked over like ping pong by EPL defenders sometimes with the ref watching like its Netflix.

It was that time Mourinho dey depress people weekly that i decided to start following the youth teams and women’s team even more closely.

If he had blistering pace he might have continued in attack like he did in his youth career, but although he is not slow he is not a speedster either.

So we have a player who prefers to hold the ball and run with it who lacks size and speed.

Luckily for him he has excellent technique and is a good passer of the ball as well, hence they have been trying to reinvent him as a central midfielder in the under 23s.

Woah!!... interesting tho. Let's see how things pan out in the coming months..

Only that the Epl is damn too physical, I wouldn't mind Chong keeping the Leroy Sane frame grin

Gomes should have longer limbs than Ryan Fraser na abi? grin

If he remains consistent he could turn out to be a “little lion”; those AMs who collect the ball in tight spaces and thread dangerous through passes.

Maybe in a year or two he’ll grow taller and wow us all.

He has excellent technique and touch and a good passing range, but guy is so small Mata looks like a giant beside him.

The good thing is that they have they finally realized and decided to move him to midfield before he got to the senior team. Lets hope its not too late because its a problem they should have seen ahead of time.

Shoretire our best under 16 player is another smallie. If they waste that one's developmental years playing him in attack as well that might be another potential waste.

I salute you guys for your job especially your time on the youth team. I don't think I have the time to sit and watch them play. Sometimes, Diadem go just dey mention some names as if na IUPAC nomenclature.

Its not hard to do. During the last days of Mourinho when i wanted to watch good football i watched the under 18 team with Greenwood, Garner, Gomes, Chong. It was far easier than watching Mourinho's team.

Actually i think it is the ones that religiously watched Mourinho's United that deserve the praise and salute. Watching the under 18 team last year was no stress at all.

Can the coaches successfully facilitate the transition to the senior team?

It's been a whiile we've had a good head coach who will play good football and develop youth players.

Of the 33 goals #MUFC have scored under Ole in all competitions, 18 have been netted by #MUAcademy graduates... Rashford, Lingard and Pogba.

They can. Gomes, Garner and Greenwood are highly favored by the coaching staff and the hierarchy. They are English, homegrown and will be given as much opportunity as possible to succeed.

I believe there is a subtle bias in favor of English players in the youth team, but it is so nuanced you might not notice it.

In terms of facilitating Gomes transition i think he should finish this year in the under 23, and then possibly go on a well chosen loan next season and by 2020 he would be ready for to make the team.

Does Kieran McKenna have something to do with the success of the U-18s?

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11585061/who-is-kieran-mckenna-manchester-united-coach-taking-training-with-michael-carrick

Maybe he can help with the transition of these younguns into first team football.

It should not even be up for debate. McKenna is the most important reason they all progressed so well, and he is a big factor in the belief that the coaching staff have in them.
If they are going to be integrated successfully McKenna will be key.

3 Nigerian boys in the under 18 side playing today. Mengi and Odubeko starting, Shoretire on the bench.

TBH I’d never heard of Kieran until Mourinho prompted him to the first team following Rui Faria’s departure. And even when I saw him, I thought he was one of the Neville brothers. grin grin The resemblance is uncanny.

McKenna is the one unpopular standout acquisition in Ed Woody’s tenure. He played a huge part in Torrenham’s Youth team and i hope he does same here or even better.

I used to see one Olasunde or Olatunde in the U-23. Don’t know if he’s still playing regularly or not.

Olosunde is an American born Naija RB. I don't really rate him that highly. He has been superseded by better players younger than him.
Laird, Williams, O'Connor are all better in my opinion.
