Over a hundred kilometres away from Dutsin-Ma is Madrasatul Hadikatul Qur’anil Kareem, Funtua. It was completed in 2012 but the state of facilities there would give it away as one constructed several decades ago.

When EduCeleb.com visited the school in September 2018, the neglect of the facilities was apparent. This is apart from it being restricted to the traditional Almajiri education rather than the integration of Quranic and Western education as conceived.

The issue is multifaceted. The states need to fund it through taxes. The easiest way to do that would be through property taxes. Parents have to take an active role in the kids education. That means watching how the school board spends money.

The next step is to start regulating Almajari and prosecuting parents. Institute compulsory attendance and prosecute for truancy. I would say abolishing it but I doubt that'll happen.

Average northern politician hates the fact that amajiri is getting educated because they know once they are exposed it would be very difficult to influence them especially during electionering period.. The decay that's happening in the North is an advantage to their politicians.

That project is a Federal government project and it's their responsibility to sustain it.

“Money is available to address these issues and increase the capacity of these schools,” Mr Keana said. “But we’ve seen that government prioritises investment in things that do not affect the lives of ordinary people. They prefer to divert money to frivolous projects even when money is budgeted for the education sector, it is not being properly utilised.”
