my dear someone earning 500k in naija is an average Nigerian, when you start earning that amount monthly you will know it's not really much, before you can save to buy car, build good house, you might need a loan.
remember you pay rent, feed the family, pay school fees, send money to family members, pay hospital bills etc from that monthly stipend.
I still prefer the life abroad.

don t mind them

500k will give you a mediocre life AT BEST in Nigeria

if you do travel, you will be posting it here.

In Nigeria even women selling in balogun market go to dubai for holidays.

you see the standard of living is cheap here no excess tax, even couples are getting clever and not borning more than 2 kids

we pay rent yearly, so with 500k, i can rent a 2-3 bedroom flat in a good area in the mainland.

my kids can go to good schools and we can even go out on weekends, if i save well we can go for holidays in cheaper countries in africa

you can call Nigeria whatever names you like the fact remains that you cant build a country, if you were so smart instead of complaining you would have build your village instead of running out of Nigeria to an already built country.

Nigeria is not a paradise but people are still making it here even some of your brothers and sisters return home to get recognition because they couldnt get it there

why you are busy abusing nigeria , people that understand nigeria are busy investing, building a country and making money.

Those who know me here know more abt me, so no need to show myself

my father, being the igbo man that he is, declined moving out, and he is "doing fine" by his own way

I wanted much more for myself so I towed a different path.

You are right about one thing tho

Wherever You find yourself, work hard and be the best you can be

if you choose to be in Nigeria, work hard and make the best of it

if you are abroad, work hard and make the best of it

When you start earning that amount monthly as a family man with kids and much responsibilities you will know is not so huge as you think. It will be easier if your wife is working and supportive, if not it is not easy dear.

People in Nigeria get taxed twice for almost everything, with the cost of living going up, while the quality of life decreases. You go for holidays to cheaper African countries because you can't get visa to a decent country overseas, nor can the naira even compete if you do get a visa for abroad. Its good to be positive but lets stop insulting ourselves here.

Exactly. You go to these countries due to condition, not really by choice. Levels get levels. Back to the tax situation, when you pay for a service twice, you're getting double taxed. When you pay taxes and its suppose to fund your education, healthcare, roads/infrastructure system, etc, yet it doesn't, and you now have to pay out of pocket for these same services you've already paid taxes for, you're being double taxed. period !

When you need healthcare, do you go to your tax funded public hospital ? No. You go to a private hospital, essentially pay twice for healthcare.

When you need to educate your kids, do you go to your tax funded schools ? No. You go to a private school, essentially pay twice for education.

Why do you pay neppa bill yet get no light ? Then you now have to buy gen and fuel it up. Aren't you paying twice for electricity ?

My brotha I can go on. People in Nigeria are constantly getting double taxed and paying twice for almost every essential services. But for some reason they're too stupid to realize it.

You went from "where are people taxed twice in nigeria" to "all I see is complainers". This makes me believe you were one of the stupid ones who didn't realize they were getting taxed twice. I've given many simple solutions. Break up this British made nation and each ethnic group should go their own way. Or burn alive any politician who has been caught being corrupted on national TV, including their friends/family. Any other solution isn't realistic.

If after paying
Car insurance
Mortgage (for people that own a house)
sales tax
income tax
property tax
house insurance
employment insurance etc
and you still think Nigerians are taxed twice, then you really not saying the truth.

I know some provincial governments provide subsidies for people with children but life for canada no ne beans o. Canada is sweet o but all na packaging o.
Canada has free healthcare but if you get serious ailment that require surgery or special attention, you fit die for waiting list..infact you might wait up to six months to see a specialist. infact elite canadians just go to America for urgent medical needs.

Education is free till high school, which is great but many middle class canadians cannot afford to sponsor their kids through college hence they take up student loans and depending on your course of study and job hunting strategy, u might not get a job after school.

Average Canadian is 21k in debt and most are living paycheck to paycheck infact some people in this forum might not have up to 30k in liquid cash or emergency fund.

Someone here said with 500k salary you might not be able to even buy a car after expenses, my sister/brother if you are the only one working in that family with more than two kids and a salary that is considered average..you will struggle anywhere in the world.

Talking about cars, how many canadians are driving brand new cars? out of the ones driving brand new cars, more than 70% are on dealerships/financing. most middle class canadians cannot pay for brand new cars upfront.

Naija ma shithole country for sure but canada is an entirely different challenge on its own.

Great point about the health care system . People like to brag about the Canadian health care system but there are serious disadvantages . Wait times can be too long. Although the US has issues with their health care system I prefer the U.S. We have a lot of health specialists here , people travel from all over the world just to get treatment here. In Canada , there are to many uncessary barriers to enter the heath care field as a professional.

I know you're trolling, but I have some time today.

Car insurance- In a civilized society it's important to have insurance to pay out people if you hurt them or damage their property with your car.

Mortgage- A nice investment. Not only do you own the house after X amount of years, the value of your house also goes up. So in X amount of years you're a home owner, unlike an average man who'll be paying rent and die without owning property or passing it down to their children. In a civilized country it's important everyone has a chance to own property whether you can do it by cash, or signing on to a mortgage.

Sales Taxes- These taxes are used to fund public services like healthcare so we don't have to pay out of pocket. Unlike in naija, people abroad don't pay for these services twice.

Income tax- Is used to again pay for crucial services and infrastructure, and gives the government money to operate.

Property tax- This tax is used to fund schools nearby and emergency services like police and fire. It'd cost more if you paid for it privately out of pocket.

House insurance- It can be optional. But one gets a pay out if their house is burned down for example. Plus it's usually dirt cheap.

Employment insurance- If one loses their job, the gov't will pay them small salary for close to a year until they get back on their feet. So they don't need to beg.

I fail to see why you're mentioning these taxes ? You see once the mandatory taxes are paid, a person doesn't have to worry about anything. But unlike in naija, once a tax is paid, you still have to worry about school fees, neppa, etc. What don't you understand ? People in Canada only wait a significant time for elective services. If it's an emergency you'll get it right away. This American medical system you're bragging about is ranked 7 spots BELOW Canada's healthcare system. Why would people in Canada go to the U.S, pay out of pocket, for an inferior product ? Canadian elites rarely leave Canada for treatment. 1% of the population doesn't mean anything. It's funny you mentioned that, because a famous U.S politician who's extremely wealthy, an elites, and bashed Canada's medical system is actually travelling to Canada for surgery. The irony. I thought the system in the U.S was so great ? The Canadian medical system is not perfect, but I'd take a system ranked 30th in the world through taxes, over naija's ranked basically dead last in the world

http://thepatientfactor.com/canadian-health-care-information/world-health-organizations-ranking-of-the-worlds-health-systems/

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/15/politics/rand-paul-canada-surgery/index.html

Provinces are starting to make University free. In Ontario if you're low income, you can go to university for free. Though the current governor is trying to abolish that. Those who do take out loans, it can be paid in due time after they're done school. In life you have to pay for quality. Anyone can afford to attend those jaga jaga naija universities where your toto has more impact than your intelligence. Moreover after graduating from a naija university, which employer, especially abroad will take a naija degree serious ? lol abeg. I don't know every Canadian so I can't say who's in debt or not. As for the cars, financing is no big deal in an advanced economy where most make a good salary and get paid on time. Stop comparing a developing economy to an advanced one. Levels get levels again.

I have to go now. Kaachiifooo

house insurance
employment insurance etc
and you still think Nigerians are taxed twice, then you really not saying the truth.

So true. People come here to form as if Canada is heaven, they won't tell u how they're living check to check, abt all the bills they've to pay every month (heating, water, electricity, internet, car, mortgage, etc), abt healthcare not being completely free but there r things you pay out of pocket for, abt their 30k, 50k, 70k student loans or other debts on their neck they've to be making monthly payments toward. I'm in the U.S but have friends in Canada and know how their reality

Kaachiifooo

Why call me a troll ? can't you make your points without being petty?

I'm just gonna address a few false claims

Education
University education is not free for anyone in Canada. Even the OSAP program in Ontario comes as loans and grants. the grant is a small percentage of the entire funding package, so you have to pay back almost everything. the new Government is about canceling the small grant that students don't have to pay back. if you don't understand what free education means, go study the German education model.

Healthcare
Health care in canada is not entirely free, you have to pay a deductible amount (depending on your insurance package) and your insurance covers the rest. If you have minor health issues, a great portion will be covered by insurance but if you have serious health issue, your own son finish. you will pay a higher deductible and also have to wait a long time before you see a specialist. That's why companies provide better insurance for their employees.

Car
I only pointed this out because of the guy that said an individual on 500k a month salary cannot afford a car. You also just confirmed that most canadians are buying car on loans but you said it's no big deal because its canada.

The truth is majority of canadians are living on borrowed standards. everyone is in debt (including you maybe). Only the elites are killing it and enjoying life.

You need crawl out of your fantasy bubble and stop living in denial. Canada runs on capitalism, middle class and low income earners live to pay taxes.

Like you ones said "if you love money, Canada is not for you" take away credit facilities from canadians and everyone is broke. I'm using a very good iPhone, not because I'm rich but because I can take the phone on credit from network providers and pay in monthly installments. Ututuoma
