Goodevening everyone.

Please guys, I really need your help. Its very urgent.

There is this Nissan maxima 2001 model my brother gave to me. He has parked it down for almost 2 years.

So, last week...I decided to repair the car because I want to use it next year. We had to tow it to the mechanic workshop. We started working on it. Changed the brain box, the fuel pump, bought new battery, new tyres etc.

After everything, it came back to life. Nice sound. Everything seems to be alright. Then the re-wire drove it around, though, I was with him. We discovered that the gear (automatic transmission) wasn't selecting.

It works on reverse (R) , on drive (D) and on Park (P). But the gear isn't selecting (like change from 1-2).

The re-wire said we need to change the gear oil. We flushed the gear oil that was there and bought a new gear oil. We bought 8L of Holts gear oil. The gear consumed everything before it could guaged.

After changing the gear oil, we then tested the car. It was still the same problem. The gear wasn't selecting. Sometimes, it will act like it wants to select, but nope.

Please guys, what do think I should do? Please!

Thanks.

Hello Autowiz, I recently noticed that my car stalls when I'm on the highway, refuses to exceed 80km/hr..... Even when it does, it slowly drops back below 70km/hr. I have changed gear fluids with DW-1 for Honda (genuine) and it persists....
I use a Honda CRV 2005. Please what can I do? I have scanned the transmission... It didn't bring error codes for gear except the codes attached in photo

Please help me

Hello autowiz,

Since last December I noticed that my car hesitates like 10 and sometimes 20 seconds when you select D. Within this time if I step on the gas it just revs until after the delay before engaging. But it moves on R and D1 without any delay. This also seems to happen whenever the car has been parked for anything longer than 4hrs.

Car is Nissan Maxima '07. Oil color is pinkish and doesn't smell burnt.

Troubleshoot the current codes you are getting. That should fix the stalling

If it's a 2007 Max, then it should be CVT. By D1 do you mean shifting to the manual mode (M1)?
Pinkish colour would suggest water contamination.

Thanks Costee. Pardon my mistake. It's '97 not '07.
Gear has D, 2 and 1.
2 and 1 engages without any hesitation except for D, which delays few seconds before moving. So what I do is shift to 2, drive a few blocks and then to D. Other than that car moves smoothly and gear changes without any issues.
Had to compare the ATF color with my neighbor's pathfinder and color is the same.

Seems to me to be the onset of what is referred to (in the Nissan world) as the morning sickness. The line pressure solenoid valve in the valve body is getting clogged. You could drain the ATF and refill with a fresh lot, though I won’t say for certain that would solve the issue. Ever changed the ATF before? The colour is syrup red if you do have in Matic D or a good Dexron III equivalent. The shift lag will with time catch up with the other two gears.

Autowiz and kashif please i need your ideas.

I drive a 2003 Honda Accord 2.4l. Am not sure if i have a problem or not but i dont like the downshift from 2 to 1.

Say i am slowing down for a speed breaker and would accelerate after the bump, in most cases the gear refuses to shift down to 1 ready for me to accelerate with full power. The result is a less powerful acceleration because i am taking off from 2 and probably a speed lower than the range for gear 2. If i accelerate hard, i dont get full power for some seconds until the speed catches up to the 2nd gear range then the acceleration improve to full power.

If i desperately want the gear to shift to 1 after the bump, i have to floor the accelerator but the shift will be hard with a thud. The other way is to do it manually by shifting the stick to 1.

It only shifts down to 1 by itself when i come to complete stop or slow down almost stopping.

I have not driven other car EODs to conclude a general issue but i certainly dont like that drag of an inappropriate gear.

Starting from zero, all gears shift up or down smooth for the 2-1. Normal drive, there isnt any sign of the problem but when you need hard acceleration after slowing down then i get the problem for some seconds.

Bros I know you were not there when they mounted this new transmission. Believe me what you have in there is your old 13pin, it was converted to a 10pin, they just opened your gear from under removed the 13pin body valve and replaced it with a 10pin body valve and a gear electrician did some wiring work.

I am a victim of this and my car does exactly like yours. I am saving up to buy a new 13pin gear

Thank you for this awesome thread. I got a used 09/10 Toyota matrix off a lady. I noticed that when driving for long ( that is when the engine is hot, the transmission slips and the engine makes nice. After a while, the vehicle stops moving on drive, but works on reverse. This only happens when the vehicle has been used for a while and the engine is hot. When you park it for a while, it drives normal again.

The mechanic had it checked out and concluded that the transmission fibres are burnt. He added that the gear had been worked on before and advised that I do a transmission replacement.

I got a new transmission. The same mech told me that on dropping the old gear, it was discovered that the 13pin gear on it was meant for another vehicle (08 Camry), but worked on to fit into the matrix. He claimed to have put the right gear meant for the vehicle into it this time which he said is a 10pin transmission compatible with the 2AZ engine on the vehicle

However, I notice that the new gear stalls when shifting from 1 to 2 and the vehicle jerks when it eventually enters 2. Also, it doesn't stay long on 2 before it shifts to 3 with a less jerk. I asked the mech which type of transmission was used and he said Dexron 111. He claimed that the gear seller insisted on putting the transmission oil and that he would not bear responsibility if I use any other ATF and the gear didn't work. I initially wanted to give him Toyota ATF Type IV or WS to use for the new gear. The check light is also on and that has been like that even before the gear replacement. I intend to flush the transmission oil and replace it with Toyota Type IV, or WS. I also intend to get the vehicle scanned. To know the fault codes.

This transmission issues could be very frustrating...

Does it mean nothing can be done until I get another 13pin gear box?
Is yours a Toyota matrix too?

The gear was replaced 2 days ago. I've called the mech and told him to change it back to 13pin. I told him a reversal on whatever electrical alterations they've made should be done as well. I wish I can be there when this will be done. The vehicle is going back to Kazeem tomorrow...

If your engine is 2AZ, then you should have a U250 transmission (13pin), and not '10pin'. If unsure, post your VIN for decoding. I think you now have a wrong gear installed.

That's why I am asking questions sir. Some of us are not savvy when it comes to cars and machines. The inscription on the faulty gear is U250. Here is the Vin 2T1KE4EE8AC035303

I insisted that the 10pin transmission (whatever that means) be removed and replaced with the U250 I saw written on the faulty transmission. Kazeem claims they've tried 3 new transmission and none worked. I demanded that he put back the faulty transmission and return my vehicle.

I need a very good mechanic to help me fix this vehicle in Abuja. Any recommendations please?

Hello Auto Wiz, my O4 Corolla will just stop when moving. Most times, this happens when I put on the AC. I've changed the fuel pump, yet the problem still persist. It started recently tho. I've had the oil changed and car serviced yet it's still stopping.

Any idea of what's could be wrong?

I have the vehicle with me with the malfunctioning transmission. Drove it to Apo today in search of a solution. The transmission sellers showed me different types of transmission ( U341, U 240, etc). None is U250 that's my vehicle's specs. I refused to buy, even though they insisted "it didn't matter". One told me he's a global dealer and I cant teach him. I gladly walked away.

Still waiting for referral on a good mech in Abuja to help out....

From your VIN, what you should have is U250. Listen not to anyone who tells you otherwise.

He is a global ignoramus. U341 mates with 1.8 engines.

When you eventually find the correct transmission, also replace your radiator with a new one.
