asha80: It looks more like Rivers State. Their settlement pattern seems unorganized with their Obi converted to stores and hostels inside native compounds. Typical Igbo villages are finer and better organized in spaced compounds. |

Abagworo: It did look disorganised and compact with hardly any greenery! I think part of the reason is the villagers mad rush to take commercial advantage of the university next door! This disorganisation of villages, towns and cities due to commerce and industry is a feature you see all over Nigeria, not just the south-east! |

Ofuzo: Nah...dude is genuine! He was born in the UK, but his parents sent him back to school in Imo in the 70s, coupled with the fact they must have been one of the sensible parents abroad that spoke to their kids in their native tongue. These experiences are enough to make any commited individual fluent in both english and Igbo, and keep the accents for both languages as well! If you’ve heard Indian or Somali youths in the UK speak with their parents in their native tongues, you’d be impressed how they can switch accents so easily depending on which language they’re speaking.  2 Likes |

And where is Abagworo, the Owerri Mega City man of Uche Nwosu, the architect of Owerri Urban renewal? It wasn't funny watching crowds destroy the photos of Uche Nwosu along the well lit boulevards of Owerri yesterday night. Okorocha kept on narrating to us that he was "Building our dear state capital city" to Mega City standards. Both undermined development in Orlu. Congrats to Hon Emeka Ihedioha. Let's watch how Ihedioha can lift Imo state from the list of states with only one modern city. |

Xander85: Good observation. It's quite simple, really. Abia isn't doing as well as it should. There's this pride you get when your state is budding and new, and nice looking structures are sprouting out that makes you whip out your camera to take snapshots and videos. No one is forcing the online presence of Owerri, Enugu and Onitsha. It just happens naturally, spontaneously, because people like taking pictures of photogenic scenes, which inevitably end up on the internet. Have you noticed how same thing is currently happening with Abakaliki since Umahi began raising ambitious structures and uplifting the state's image? 4 Likes |

Smart Alecs encouraged Okorocha to build Owerri to mega city in a wham, that future governors shall attend to Orlu and other parts of Imo state. Okorocha agreed without understanding it was wrong. Orlu decayed. Little minds like you come here to display Okorocha's development of Owerri, as if Owerri is Imo state. |

The three LGAs of Mbaise can't withstand the wrath of rest of Imo state against a parochial gov Ihedioha. Remember, it's only this time that rest of Owerri outside Mbaise voted massively for Ihedioha. Ofuzo: Govts set the stage for a locality to emerge as modern town or city. If govt did not provide Owerri regional water supply system in the 1980s, did not locate universities, etc in Owerri, the town of Owerri would not grow 1/10th of what it's today, despite being state capital. Okorocha concentrated from in developing of Owerri where Mbakwe, Enwerem, Udenwa stopped in building infrastructures in Owerri, alienating Orlu and Okigwe areas. If Ihedioha who emerged governor largely because of equity, refuses to provide water supply, tertiary education institutions etc in Orlu zone, infrastructures that have for long been taken for granted in Owerri zone, he ought to know what the immediate consequences shall be. Yes, Urban towns, Cities and LGAs are supposed to generate their incomes to develop their localities. But in Imo state, we have an absurd situation where state governors collect the allocations of LGAs and the state, use part of the allocations on lavishing building infrastructures in the state capital, scratch a few roads and market stalls and roundabouts outside the state capital, then pocket much of the rest. People of the state capital and paid sycophants of the governor sing praises of the governor. |

kikake: Well, I'm sure that ihedioha will build this and that road in orlu, but that's never going to be enough. Cities need DEDICATED leadership to grow and develop. Ihedioha might decide not to be like okorocha who built in one city, but instead be like other governors who didn't build in any city. This is what I've trying to say for the past year. You see, the problems are so vast, it's impossible for one man to sit in the governors office seat in the state capital and start developing the entire state including it's other cities. It's really a joke to think that, that's doable. Now, it's possible for nigerian state governors to build roads here and there. But, you have to consider that, only maybe 1% of imo state roads have been tarred. Yes 1%. If imo state, was in a western country, all the roads where you have human habitation would have been tarred. That will be tantamount to tarring all roads in all our villages and cities, and I mean, every single one of them. We MUST change our mindset to make progress or there won't be any progress till thy kingdom come. |

Xander85: Actually, the problem is not his igbo accent, but his british accent. His igbo accent definitely shows that igbo was his first language which he learned to speak in nigeria not in the UK. I'm sorry to say, but his british accent is totally and completely forced. For starters, it really doesn't sound british at all. Secondly, like I said, I've met a lot of nigerians forcing british and american accents which made it possible for me to spot one anytime I see one. |

Ofuzo: You asked for things ex governor Udenwa built. They include: Imo state government Secretariat Owerri. New markets in Owerri. First Expansion of Owerri to now New Owerri. Sustained the multi million dollars Owerri regional surface water supply system. Completion of the multi million dollars Okigwe Surface Water Supply Project started by gov Mbakwe. Too many inter-local government and Inter-state state roads. Imo state University Teaching Hospital, Orlu. Imo International Market Orlu. A housing estate in Okporo Orlu to have accommodated staff of Imo state university teaching hospital. Construction of too many urban roads in Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu. Too many public water boreholes across Imo state. But today, only the projects of Udenwa in Owerri have been sustained by his successors. Udenwa's successors could not sustain the all important water supply systems of Okigwe and Owerri. |

MxreR: Abagworo's job with Okorocha's govt has been on the line since the day Okorocha with his son-in-law lost guber election.. Abagworo is one of those who misled gov Okorocha to believe that Imo state is Owerri. As Okorocha continued to boast that he was "building our dear state capital city to international standard," Abagworo continued to post photos of developments of Owerri and call the photos: Imo is developing. This is 419, as federal allocations to have been used for development of other parts of Imo state outside Owerri were pocketed, while some people cheer Owerri development. Most of Imo state outside Owerri was actually decaying. Okorocha and Abagworo must have thought that Imo people are fools. |

When I was growing up, this SURFACE jargon is how they described the distribution of water. I really don't know what that means. If one needs to do something, one should go and understudy how advanced civilizations have done theirs. There are no such things as regional SURFACE water supply schemes in advanced countries. What they have is WATER treatment facilities and WASTE treatment facilities. Water treatment facilities are plants which collect and pool water from RIVERS (not boreholes) and treat it for human consumption which is then pumped to people's homes for drinking, washing, cleaning, bathing and pooing/pooping. The same used water is then pumped back to a WASTE treatment plant, where the impurities are removed with chemicals and the water is discharged. The isrealis use water from their waste treatment plants to irrigate their crops, for example. So, please, we should stop talking about SURFACE water supply schemes and instead build WATER and WASTE treatment plants for our cities. Right now, we are only using UNTREATED borehole water, and burying human waste in our backyards. "New markets in owerri" We should stop building 10ft by 10ft lock up shops, timber market, spare parts market, computer market, electronic market, building materials market, and all other this and that market. Again, go and understudy how others are doing their own. Our own system of one shop one person is GROSSLY inefficient. That kind of system doesn't exist in advanced countries. What they have are shopping centers, shopping plazas and mini marts. There is no crayfish selling here. Their shopping malls are equivalent to what the south african shopright are building in nigeria, with a giant store that is probably employing not less than 100 people in each store. Even the smaller stores you find in mini marts each employ not less than five people. All these 10ft by 10ft lock up shops in nigeria is a joke that is totally and completely obsolete. 4 Likes |

Abagworo: Given the antecedent of Imo PDP during a dozen of its reign, I am very skeptical about this government. Indeed, PDP dealt with Imo State. For instance, I know people in the Ohakim administration who shared money every now and then in the name of Clean and Green. And yes, Udenwa was once asked - during an interview - the foreign investor he attracted to Imo, he answered Mr. Biggs. Imo State don suffer...really  However, we must remain optimistic in the face of cynicism because everyone deserves a second chance. sonature1: I'm not doubting that the building is a mall. We seem to have a love affair with pillars. The way the pillars in the picture was set up, makes the building look like a museum not a mall. Our building styles sometimes have me scratching my head. I have seen nigerian gas stations with a building that looks like somebody's palatial mansion. I saw some factories owned by uche ogah where they had some buildings with balconies that looked like people's homes instead of the kinds of buildings built in factories. They all look very, very amateurish. This is exactly what I've been saying for the longest time. The igbos are the most travelled tribe, and yet, they don't know how to build things. The first time I came back to nigeria after being away for 10 years was a big big shock. My first question was; what happened to all the engineers that came out of our technology schools scattered all over igboland. Why are they not being used to design and build stuff like PROPER drainage system instead of gutters. I'm not an engineer, but I can design and build a drainage system after observing what is obtainable in western countries. This is really what is making me VIOLENTLY angry everytime I come home and see how DISORGANIZED everything is. It is totally and completely unacceptable. Why the conspiracy of silence? Why is it, that every igbo son or daughter who is very well travelled, is seeing the way igboland and it's cities are and have decided to keep silent? You know, there are igbo people in the US that are building contractors. There's one in Cincinnati Ohio that is a building contractor, building schools, libraries and residential buildings whose worth is in the millions of dollars. Why didn't the enugu government bring him back to build their brand new Secretariat? Why did sullivan chime give the contract to ARAB CONTRACTORS instead giving it to their own son. Why can't igbo governors bring somebody like that to teach our people how to build things. His name is evans nwankwo who is an enugu man. There are several others, like the son of Chelsea group, from anambra. This is what the chinese do. At every given year, there's 100,000 chinese students studying in american universities. China have great universities, but the reason they and other countries like saudi arabia and india send thousands of their people to study in western countries is to steal what is obtainable there AND BRING IT BACK HOME TO THEIR COUNTRIES. 3 Likes 1 Share |
