The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the collation of the governorship election in Bauchi state.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, Bauchi resident electoral commissioner (REC), announced this at a press briefing on Tuesday.

He said it was in line with a court order, restraining INEC from resuming collation.

A federal high court in Abuja had ordered the commission not to proceed with the exercise based on a motion filed by Mohammed Abubakar, incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abubakar had asked the court to compel INEC to go ahead with supplementary election it had earlier fixed for Saturday.

Abdullahi said the order did not affect the state house of assembly election, disclosing that the commission would go ahead with collation of Tafawa Balewa constituency and subsequently announce the winner.

“As you are aware, we have been indulged by members of the press as to the news that in respect of the news making the rounds in respect of Tafawa Balewa,” he said.

“So I am to inform you formally that the Independent National Electoral Commission is in receipt of a court order restraining it from proceeding with the collation and announcement of results in respect of Tafawa Balewa only.

“I’m also to add that the order which was sort and granted does not include the Tafawa Balewa constituency, hence we will make arrangements to continue with the state constituency collation and subsequently announce the results.”

In Tafawa Balewa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 40,010 while the PDP 20,862 but the result was rejected because it was recorded in a replacement form without approval from the state returning officer.

The collation officer had said suspected hoodlums took away the original result sheet.

This Governor should goan rest nah... Tafawa Belewa is the strong hold of PDP, thus, even if election is conducted several times, Dogara would always deliver it to PDP. So, it's a case of postponing the inevitability

Simple solution is simple majority of the NASS and SHOA deleting the clause that gives room for inconclusive elections so that the 2 third of vote cast clause and SIMPLE MAJORITY WINS THE ELECTION ,

THE INCONCLUSIVE ELECTIONS IS TECHNICAL WEAPON AGAINST THE OPPOSITION

kahal29:
The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended the collation of the governorship election results of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area and the subsequent announcement of the result.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this at a press conference at the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Conference Hall, INEC Headquarters in Bauchi on Tuesday.

He said, “the court has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from continuing with the collation and subsequent announcement of the result of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area as it affects the Governorship election.”

Details soon.

Would the judgement be delivered within the stipulated time enshrined in the constitution to conduct a supplementary election which preceded the inconclusive declaration, owing to the fact that they had already eaten close to 2weeks already into the time. In others word, INEC now have barely 2weeks to finalize the election, would be judgement be delivered prior to the time??

Only if these judgements and injunctions flying up and down were gotten through merits and not because money exchanged hands. Sadly, Nigeria's Judiciary is one of the most corrupt, ineffectual and lazy in the world. Send money to them in the night, go to the court in the day, asking for any ridiculous injunction and you have it on a platter of silver.
All of these injunctions need to be wiped out from our judicial life, for sanity to reign.

Obviously because election and pre election cases are speedily treated.but something tells me that one of the states will exceed the stipulated time which is April 28.

I disagree.the inconclusive clause was brought by inec in 2011 to protect the opposition against pdp.it can favor anybody.it makes sure that victory is emphatic and sure

Buhari has interfered, I can bet my lungs on this. No other court has the jurisdiction to adjudicate on electoral matters than the tribunal. INEC know better than this.
What did they do in respect of Akpabio injunction against the announcement of Chris Ekpenyong.
Nigeria we hail thee!

This is the best decision and only option. On or before Friday the court will rule in favour of the incumbent governor as the earlier INEC decision was illegal.

The court will order a rerun based on the electoral Act.

This is a welcome development.

Stay tuned for the latest Rivers update as I see a lot of people sending tears tomorrow although there will be a rerun in Rivers state.

No matter how many reruns are conducted in Tafawa balewa, PDP will still win it, APC can't win Tafawa balewa LGA

Obosi was Chidoka’s stronghold in Anambra state, it had twenty two polling units and Ifeanyi Ibezi still won him in the rerun done....Politics is not 1+1=2....I’ve been saying this for a long time now..
