Kubwa is the most developed satellite town in Abuja. House rents in these places are quite expensive. Except in Nyanya and Maraba (the risk here is constant daily traffic. It's safe to say that Nyanya and Maraba is lagos in Abuja)

When people talk about the cost of rent, they are probably looking at a self contain rooms. This is not a right way to measure rent. For instance, I have a colleague of mine that pays 600k for a 2 bedroom in Lugbe, in Dutse a colleague is paying 450k for same. Rent is not cheap anywhere in these places except you are talking about Bwari, deidei, kuje, gwagwarada, Zuba, and the rest that you have to drive for close to an hour to get to town. Me that is planning on moving to a 2 bedroom end of this year, my budget is 550-600k. I can't keep enriching landlords with my earning. lol.

Also, most people living in estates live in BQ. This is a life I don't want to live. But people do it for packaging sake. I can't live in a BQ of a mansion, where my life will be restrained by the owners choice or way of life. People live in Area 1, etc. but when you see the BQ you will know it's better to live in lugbe than those places.

One got to expand and you can't keep living in a self contain.

wait oo are u saying there are married couples who live in BQs in estates? I might understand if its a young bachelor just starting life in a BQ or a couple of students but i doubt if married couples can jus stay in a BQ. E go dey stressful oo and d freedom to do wat u want wont be dere.

Bros you are missing something. Most ladies living in Gwarimpa are 70-80k earners. They share flat with each other with many staying like 2-3 in a room in the shared apartment. It's all about Packaging here. One of my neighbour packed from gwarimpa to my compound when her shared rent expired. A man rented an apartment, a self contain in Gwarimpa for 450k. So she took in someone (my neighbour) who pays 25k per month to her. When the rent expired, the man was no longer there and they had nowhere to go. Her salary couldn't even get her a gateman apartment in Gwarimpa.

Ignore those packaging, some of them are just living below their means. It's all packaging. So when they tell you they live anywhere around town, it's either shared apartment or they got a place rented for them by a man. One of my neighbour couldn't believe the real source of income of these ladies until last week friday, I drove the guy through Wuse 2 to Adetokumbo ademola crescent to front of Transcorp, pricing ladies for the fun of it. When you go out at night, you will see the reason some of these ladies package themselves.

You can survive in Abuja even earning 30k, the city has a way of placing you at your budget except you are doing other things

lol i agree with u on dat one about packaging . Though on dat issue u talk about ladies getting men to pay rent for them its not only in abuja but all over the country. Smarter nigerian ladies these days use their attraction to men to their greatest advantage. They get the men to pay their yearly rent,pay them attractive monthly stipends which they add to the stipends they add to their legal hustle . And on the issue of flat sharing i think thats a smart way of cutting cost of rent paying the disadvantage is dat ur privacy might be compromised.

Lol. Cost cutting is understandable but they are people who do not need those kind of flat sharing. Some do it for the name sake, "i live in Gwarimpa, Area 1" etc.

My point is, those that live in Gwarimpa or Area one do not earn more than those that live in say Lugbe or Kubwa. Some bought land and developed it than keep paying rent. Everything is just about packaging.

Another amazing thing that happen in Abuja is that there is no type of car that isn't used for transport. You'd see those with Hilux pick passengers on their way to work just to recover the cost of fuel. In my early days in Abuja, I used to enter those private car owners and wonder why they pick passengers. N100, N150, N200, and they carry about 4 passengers. Lol. You can't do this in Lagos. Once a private car owner packs to pick passenger in lagos, people will probably start panicking but in Abuja it's very common.

In my early days in Abuja, I entered one Toyota Muscle. The AC was mortuary standard and the pay was just N150. I was wondering why the man used that new car to pick passengers.
