It all started during the "Reformation Period" when the likes of John Calvin and Martin Luther revolt against the corruption going on among the Papacy. The "Reformation period" led to the breakaway from the Roman Catholic Church, this gave birth to reformation churches like the Anglican Church in England, Presbyterian broke away from the Anglican church of England. Other churches like Methodist came on. Pentecostal started from US. African churches like Cele, Cherubim, Ijo Aladura etc split from these foreign churches during colonialism due to religion ideologies doctrines and the rest they say is history.

Obviously, as this thread itself shows, Christianity means slightly different things to different people. That is just more evidence that people believe different things about the same things.

According to the Bible, a Christian is anyone who believes in Jesus Christ.

But not many people really care what the Bible says. Most people are making things up and getting very emotional about it. Because they do, they form exclusive groups around their ideas and protect themselves thus from the Truth.

Local churches are very useful for believers who are interested in growing in the Truth to help and encourage each other to do so. So, ideally, local churches would be open to all Christians who believe in the Bible and are zealous for the Truth. But denominations are a different kind of animal. They tend to only be open to people who share their specific taste in lies.

Your Muslim brothers, "love radiates amongst them and they love helping each other"? Really? Like how the Shia and Sunni Muslims are doing? Yeah right.

The bible provides the answer: matt15: 7-10. Summary is that people have become worshippers of men rather than following what the Bible teaches.

As proof do you ever see these churches discuss doctrinal issues? No because they know their falsehood will be exposed. Instead what do they preach: useless social and prosperity gospel that cannot build spirituality and this explains why vices continue to increase despite the fact that there is a church or more in almost every street in our country.

Especially in modern Pentecostalism. I think it is this Master-apprenticeship syndrome. Some serve and later want to become masters of there own craft. A sad infusion of business with religion.

A good way of understanding this is to pay attention to history.

After Christ died, the next centuries brought about a number of Churches - the church in Rome, the church in Greece, the church in Egypt and Ethiopia. In short, there were quite a number of Churches, all claimed to have been started by one apostle or the other. Still, their manner of practice was almost the same and they enjoyed communion with one another.

It wasn't until the 11th century AD that we had the first major schism between the east and west church. The west went with the name "Catholic", the east, "Orthodox". This schism, like other minor ones before it, was caused by theological differences, such as if the communion remains just bread and wine, and represents Christ body and blood or if it indeed changes to Christ's body and blood but retains same substance, you know. Matters like the nature of Christ, the question of the Pope and other pseudo-philosophical and theological issues.

Still, however, it wasn't common for churches to split. The Great Reformation of the 16th century brought the wave of Protestantism, which brought about other branches of Christianity that didn't want anything to do with either the Catholic or the Orthodox faith. Then the Anglican faith also broke out around that time.

Fast forward to the 19th/20th centuries. Matters such as distance, the need for further evangelism, and even personal interest has increased the number of Churches in the world. It's more in Africa than any other, owing to the fact that different Africans are trying to interpret God in their own manner. Such as the C&S folks who wear white and walk barefoot.

If you observe well, you'd notice that Churches split due to matters of serious concerns in the 1st millenium to 1st half of the second millenium. unlike now when someone can just have an argument with their pastor, and just open their own church. There are even talks of the Roman Catholic Church going back to communion with the Greek Orthodox Church.

you got it all wrong. The churches in Ephesus, Phillipi, Collose, Galatia are all one church In different locations. Even Jesus Christ warned against divisions same with Paul. I Corinthians 1:10-13. The church was one till AD 606 when Roman Catholic emerged as the first denomination under the Roman Empire rule when Emperor Constantine made Christianity a state religion and introduced many things like penance, payment of indulgences etc. It got to a time that the Roman Catholic Church was richer than the Roman government due o collection of indulgences for sins committed. It was never God's intentions for there to b denominations in the world.

Because Christianity as a religion is a scam and has no genuity in practice.... Invented religion like Hinduism.
