When you truly repent from your sinful life and accept Jesus' sacrifice for you by FAITH, the Holy Spirit reactivates your dead spirit and begins to take residence therein. You're most likely not going to feel anything because the Holy Spirit doesn't reside in your feelings nor your mind, He only lives within your spirit.
You can only accept Jesus by FAITH, likewise the presence of the Holy Spirit cam only be experienced by FAITH.

In addition, anyone that can say Jesus Christ is Lord is one having the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Though some manifestations may follow, but as Christians we walk by FAITH ALONE and NOT SIGHT. So Whether manifestations or not, the evident is confessing the Jesus Christ as Lord.
However there are other things we need to understand about the Holy Spirit which are;
1. THE OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which took place at Pentecost,
2. THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which takes place when you accept the Lord Jesus Christ,
3. THE INDWELLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which takes place immediately after the baptism of the Holy Spirit. BAPTISM AND INDWELLING TAKES PLACE SAME TIME, but based on clarification purposes it is good we separate it so that understanding will be possible.
4. THE INFILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which takes place everyday. IT IS NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME BUT THE HOLY SPIRIT COMING AFRESH DAILY. It causes you to have the revelation and understanding of the Grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the Holy Spirit infills you daily, the Flesh greatly declines. Just as snakes or lizards sheds their scales to become beautiful and agile, so the Holy Spirit infills Christians so that they become better today than yesterday.
THE HOLY SPIRIT ONLY INFILLS CHRISTIANS THAT FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM IN PRAYER, (Fasting), STUDY OF THE HOLY BIBLE, MEDITATION AND THOSE THAT OBEY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND ALSO SHOW GENUINE LOVE TO THEIR NEIGHBORS.

5. THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which is strictly concerned to the Five Folds Ministry. But even at that, one should not assume the office of any of the five fold ministry when he or she has not been called as a minister and ordained by God.

As the name suggests, He is holy and so can only abide in those who have already attained holiness. So, it doesn't happen anything like your pastors and mogs pretend.

First, you must be born-again — born of Water AND born of Spirit( of Eternal Life) aka possessed by Him. Next, you must live in a continuous submission and obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ to become holy and a worthy vessel in which the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Truth) can then come and live on the inside. Even after wards, you must choose to continue in submission and obedience if Heaven is the reward you seek at the end.
