Applied natural resource econs...Yea, getting funding from MTU is very rare. I must confess that i wasn't even serious with the application because they hardly fund. I just applied since the app is free...I really can't explain what happened o seriously.

Congrats!

The message still remains that a top school goes not "guarantee" success in life - There is still that luck element that is beyond our control.

Truly truly this is what life has shown me... always aim for the best and even in choice of school as well.... it competitive out there so its essential you make good and smart choices. Work hard, put in your best and hope for the best ... There are many different path to the top and the bold is a word to note .

What's your profile like, did you apply for PhD directly? Did you have a very high GRE score and TOEFL score? Did you graduate with first class in your bachelor's degree. Big congrats to you. That means you don't need a statement of account to get your i20 since you got full funding .

Stop speaking like this, it is people who've always been privileged in every aspects of life that speak like that. And people who probably have never tasted disappointments.
Life isn't always fair, it doesn't offer everyone the same chances/advantages.
bracelum:

Stop sounding philosophical - this is reality! If you don't use resources at your disposal and achieve success like >90% of your classmates, it is your fault. It is the same "life" you all are experiencing and the fact they became successful shows that they worked harder or smarter than you.

I suspect this bracelum works for one of those loan providing companies. to the extent of downgrading someone moving from Google to Tesla that they work as cleaners.

People, hear this! There's something much worse than going flat broke and bankrupt; and it's getting ridden in debt and without a means of income.

Life is what you make it !!!
It's a fact that one's chances of success largely depends on where you're born. For the rest of us, we strive regardless. Keep your Stanford sending amebo messages to alumni to block another person to your beer parlor comrades. No be small children dey here.

Well, I don't have all d answers because computers is not something I am familiar with. But of course, it's much easier for others to help since they have an idea of your profile.

1. Some schools will accept your HND, others will ask u to convert it via WES.
2. U will have to aim for high GRE scores but u can target schools that recognize Nigerians as "native speakers", this way, u don't need Toefl
Uni of Maryland
U of Texas at Arlington
U of Florida
U of Texas at kingsville
Morgan State University
U of Idaho
North Dakota State U
Texas A n M college station
North Carolina state U
John Hopkins U( heard they stingy)
N others

3. Prefer extra for GRE, u might realize it's d hardest exam u will ever write. Target August to write it.

4. I am sure people will help with your son when it's time.

5. Corner your recommenders well, don't let them write 2 sentence recommendation for u o.

Good luck
Thank for the advice, I do intend to write the TOEFL, just in case I see a school that needs it., is October an OK time to write it, cos I'll need like a month after the GRE to prepare for it. As for the GRE I have found its thread on nairaland and I am peruzzing DAT too,lol

You are on your way there. This is not a question. Shortlisting schools, and you know what is next after shortlisting the schools. Write exam if required by the schools, apply, pay application fee. Everything is mainly self-explanatory. When you get to a junction you find a knot, ask questions and those with insight will answer them. Wish you the best.
Yes, thank you,I am really serious about this hence my more than 1 year preparation time.

Sure, you can write the GRE in September n write the Toefl is October. Just try to ensure you send your application November or first week of December. All schools r still taking applications by that time. If you can get it earlier, it's fine too.

D most important thing is that u need to have targeted 4 schools before these exams so that u can tell both are TOEFL to send your original scores to those schools. U can apply to more than four schools anyway but the exam bodies will send your scores free of charge to any four schools.
