Journalists should let this matter rest abeg. Everyone, anyone has the constitutional right to contest once you meet the requirements irrespective of your background, ethnics, religion. Northerners will surely contest.

So, if anybody thinks that the Presidency will be zoned to the South in 2023 and then the North will just sit down and watch, then they have a lot of shocks coming for them. We can still find another person from another zone who may contest under another political party and win. So, nobody should think that they can just sit down at home, not work hard and then power will just be handed over to them like that.
Sensationalism at its peak. Trust Nigerians not to read but the above is the highlight of the piece.

I'd like to believe he is referring to some persons...

From the look of things, Atiku will contest the 2023 presidential election. All these people shouting that northerners must contest in 2023 are only fronting for him

Hmmm..

He's no more recovering his mandate in court?

All I know is el rufai or ribadu are being primed to take over in 2023. Nothing the south west can do about it. When that time comes, I will be number 1 person to vote for them. Afterall, u guys forced this dullard on us, we must face this together till 2031.

I disagree. After 8 years of the North, it's the turn of South, though an unwritten agreement.

rubbish. The thing is opened to everyone. Whoever the party picks for the sake of winning has it.

Buh that doesn't stop people from contesting under other platforms.

Like play, like play the North are gradually telling the South (at least the south west) to forget 2023. And the disharmony between the Southwest and South east may actually return power to the North on a platter. If you like say that South east is 5%, but know that a Nigerian president must win at least 25% from each state.

The statement in bold is not true. A Nigerian president must win 25% in at least ⅔ of the states plus FCT, which makes it 25 states. It means that if a president fails to get up to 25% of the votes cast in each of the SE and SS states, but wins the simple majority of the votes, he will still be declared president. SE/SS have 11 states which a presidential hopeful can safely lose and still win the election, as long as he can win a simple majority of the votes.
I'm from the SE by the way, and I detest anything associated with APC.

Power will only shift from the north come 2032. For tinubu to think of himself or any southner becoming president in 2023, then he's the biggest fool that ever liveth.

I said this yesterday that no Southerner will rule Nigeria again. What we are playing is evil democrazy and APC has shown the way. There is no way APC will zone the presidency to SW while PDP will zone Thiers to the North. The mistake SW made was conniving and removing GEJ for VP slot. They will always be second best. If only SW leaders had been hell bent on restructuring this will not be the way. Sorry for una sha

I don't blame for speaking is mind it is the people that gave a microphone to speak. Useless 'efulefu' somebody.

Momoh is right on this one point, if nothing else (his criticism of allowing large numbers of parties is ridiculous). It is not up to a few agitators or self-interested politicians to decide that it is the "turn" of "the south" or "the north" in 2023, but a matter to be decided by the Nigerian electorate. Every single Nigerian who meets the constitutional requirements has the right to campaign for the presidency, and if that means the eventual winner comes from one "zone" rather than another, so be it. All this talk of "zoning" the presidency to the "SE" or "SW", as if it were a plate of pounded yam to be shared between a few acquaintances, is nothing more than the perpetuation of the old anti-democratic "godfather" mentality, where a few old men meet in a closed room somewhere and presume to decide on behalf of 180 million other Nigerians: we might as well discard with the pretense of having a democracy altogether if that's what we insist on perpetuating.

2023 is nobody's "turn", and the mindset that some "zone" is "owed" anything is just tribalistic nonsense. Both parties need to reform their candidate selection processes to be completely based on primary elections by registered party members, so we can be done once and for all with this tribal "na our turn" rubbish once and for all, and focus instead on picking candidates who have strong personal appeal and attractive platforms. If the PDP had done things this way, it wouldn't have been saddled with a hopelessly compromised candidate like Atiku, who was unable to finish off the clueless Buhari even after 4 years of economic recession.
