Hello everyone,

I just want to seek opinion. I applied for PhD admission in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics option.

However a professor offered me Biomedical Engineering option.
I never thought of it before.

What is your view please? Can ones interest change and cope with a new area of research not in your plan before?

Las las, I reported my score and I saw QR(160), VR(152). I was crestfallen because I never had it that low in any of my mocks. From the official score sent to me today the analytical is 3.5.

Immediately I saw the score at the centre, I just told myself "guy, life goes on" and I sent my scores to
Iowa state University
University of South Florida
Florida State University
University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

Profile:
GRE 312
GPA 3.73/4.00(WES unofficial)
TOEFL: still preparing
Intended Course: PhD Chemitry/Biochemistry

Team Fall 2020
You’ve got a great profile. What’s your research interest and experience?

Hello everyone... I just got a mail from GSU about admission decision for fall '19. (Msc Biology), but nothing was said about funding.

Should I wait for few days before reaching out to the department to ask about the possibility of funding? or what would you suggest?

@Solihp Were you notified of funding immediately or it took a while? Thank you

Sorry I am just seeing this. He has seen something on your resume that he feels will make you a great fit for the idea he has and I don't think it is a bad option. Research in US is so flexible that the overarching major does not really dictate the nature of the research. He might want you to apply your interest in Robotics to solve a biomedical problem for e.g so it is still Robotics but just under Biomedical engineering. I have a friend here who had his Bachelors and Masters in ChemE but his PhD is in Food Science even though one of his advisors is in ChemE. The reason is, the funding is from Food Science and the application is there as well but all the knowledge being brought into it is from ChemE. I know another girl who was to be in Civil but because the application of her research is more in ChemE they made her switch and take the core ChemE grad courses. You are a smart chap, I am sure you will cope. First interact with him (if you have not) and flesh out what the research entails.

One of the three lecturers submitted the last recommendation last week. It took him a while. Other part of the application was submitted earlier on.

A bit of update:

The department is willing to grant GTA, but the policy is that all GTA spend a semester as Graduate Teaching Apprentice (No waiver, No stipend for the first semester)

I’m confused/worried because I’m not sure the I-20 will show any form of funding with this arrangement.

Your i20 won't show any form of funding with such agreement. It means they only give GTA after the student must have spent a semester with them

Hello everyone,

I received my I-20 on Monday while a friend in USA paid my SEVIS fee via Western Union on Thursday. I'm still waiting for the confirmation of the payment to print my receipt as proof of payment.

Please I need help on how to apply for visa interview with the US consulate in Lagos but I'm not based in Lagos. How do I go about it and what are the documents I need? Thank you all.

I was about saying the same thing.

You have a great GPA @Hassanolek n your GRE score isn't bad, so you should aim higher. Make your list a mix of ambitious, moderate, and safe schools. You might be lucky enough to get into one of your termed ambitious schools.

Hello house, when are the next GRE dates for 2019

Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by solihp(f): 12:24pm On Apr 12, 2019
I am officially bowing out of the admission process for fall 2019 grin cheesy, what a process. I accepted an offer earlier this week.

A little about me

Undergrad: Statistics, CGPA:4.07/5, unofficial WES evaluation:3.47/4
I decided to apply for admission just in December although I have followed the thread for almost a year now. I wrote my GRE in February and prepared for less than two months: 161Q,153V, 3.0AW. Most of the requirement for the schools were met in the third week of February because of GRE but I submitted my applications before then. The admission decisions so far

Villanova University: Admitted but awaiting funding
Bowling Green State University: Admitted but awaiting funding
University of iowa: Rejected
Georgia State University: Admitted with GA which has full tuition waiver and some stipends
George Washington University: Pending
Michigan Technological University: Admitted without funding
American University: Admitted with some funding but was not sufficient

I was using style to wait for GWU but I have finally gone for GSU as it was the best offer so far coupled with the course: Master's of Mathematics with concentration in Biostatistics.

Fall. 2019, yes we can

She did.

A lot of questions would be answered if people would just go through previous comments on the thread; rather than asking without researching.

My comment is not targeted at you specifically; it’s just what I have noticed.

AspiringPHD:
Good afternoon...

I’m having issues with WES evaluation.

It’s in regards to to Olevel result.

So my WAEC result is not completed, I failed most of my courses (oops), my NECO as well. In short, I ended up sitting for NABTEB; now the problem is, NABTEB is not getting the verification process right, and WES keep rejecting the olevel result.

Can I use the poor WAEC result either ways? I mean does it have any effect on the overall evaluation of prerequisite and CGpA?

I have searched everywhere but I can’t find information on this.

For anybody that might have this same issue in the future.

I solved it by mailing WES and explaining to them that my O’Level is not WAEC or NECO.

After some days, I called to explain to them again, and they changed my credentials on the portal to the name of the exam body.

From all indication, they got the document the first time I sent it, but they did not acknowledge it because my portal had WASSC on it; so to then it was irrelevant.

If you want to use an Olevel that isn’t WAEC or NECO always reach out to them before you pay and explain the situation. That would make things easier and less expensive. (I paid NABTEB twice because WES did not acknowledge)

Cheers!
