Sometimes I just seat and wonder how civil servants and minimum wage earners can live in Abuja/other expensive cities, and comfortably afford the high cost of rentals which is often thrice or more of their annual salaries.

As a government, you rightly have a cap on salaries and how much you can pay your workers who must be living in these areas to be able to work for you but you forgot or choose to forget to place cap on rentals such that your citizens/workers won't be over-exploited and would have some change to feed and meet other needs.

How the government hopes to fight or discourage corruption without tackling these basics still seems to me like a mirage.

That is what happens wen u have people who has no idea, who should be shit packer and loggers as government... That was how they were making noise wen sowore said he will pay 100k... I guess who no get sense now

Gbam, corruption and Nigeria are siamese twins that cannot be seperated, corruption will end in Nigeria the day the useless government at the center begin to deal with corruption the way it is done in China and Saudi Arabia shocked

When I see this kind of news, I just shake my head in disgust. Even the officials in ICPC and EFCC live beyond their legitimate earnings, so what's the point of all this scapegoatism and charade?

Corruption is a way of life in the civil/public service in Nigeria. They are all guilty, everyone of them, including those pointing fingers. You prove nothing and change absolutely nothing by 'unfairly' arraigning a scapegoat once in a while. It would take an overhaul of diluvian proportions to change this status quo.

Nigeria itself was refashioned on FRAUD by northern military dictators who supervised Nigeria's constitution, restructured Nigeria politically, took the capital of the country from Lagos to Abuja, created an artificial city of Abuja with high cost of landed property, an Abuja City not sustained by any industries or Services, but sustained by crude oil proceeds from hundreds of kilometers away in the Niger delta.

Civil servants are therefore constrained to live and survive in Abuja on FRAUD.

I’ve always wondered too. A director earns about 300k monthly after about 30 years in service . They are there for the benefits/juiciness of the office not for their legitimate income

FRAUDULENT MEANS IS ONLY WAY FOR A CIVIL SERVANT TO LIVE AND SURVIVE IN THE FRAUDULENT CITY CALLED ABUJA, A CITY WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE MEANS OF WEALTH CREATION, BUT COST OF LANDED PROPERTY ARTIFICIALLY JACKED UP BEYOND THE REACH OF AN AVERAGE CIVIL SERVANT, NOT EVEN BY MORTGAGE FINANCING. STRANGE CITY. cool cool cool cool

You just gotta admire Saudi Arabia and their extant laws. Just once, there should be capital punishments for financial crimes in Nigeria.

If we truly intend to move forward in this country, then there should be reviews in our laws against the abuse of public office. This will drastically reduce the rate of fraud, misappropriation of public funds and brazen corruption going on in our institutions.

Nice suggestion. But it won't be taken Because many politicians, and Civil servants will be executed.

Civil Servants are more corrupt than the politicians, only that politicians are loud and naive.

In that same Abuja some Civil Servants and Perm Sec can buy Dino and his cars, but that same civil servant drive around in goverment Hillux.

U are very correct... Few people knows that hardly can a politician steal money without at least a career officer knowing about it....in fact in some cases they are d ones who open politicians' eyes to d loopholes they can take advantage of to steal money.
